Anyone get kicked out of the game today?

i cant believe this is even an issue at a BIG TEN FOOTBALL STADIUM. football is a veracious, physical, and passionate game. this is a COLLEGE team, let the fans show some pride and spirit and make the atmosphere better. The Bank should be loud and rowdy to help our team, but most of the time you could hear a pin drop. it is embarrassing.

So here is a little more background on the story. And it was not me foam hat but my younger brother.

We have had season tickets for 6 years. The first 4 tickets were for my sister, her husband and my parents. A year after this myself and my wife joined and we added 2 more tickets. Then the year after that my younger brother added 2 tickets. So we have had 8 tickets for 3 years. We even kept my sisters 2 tickets this year after they have moved out of state. I have had a great time bringing people who have never been to the new stadium.

Last year we tailgated in a few different lots. We could have got 2 season passes but the person ordering tickets misunderstood what was meant by a donation. This year we have two passes and have had a great time tailgating. I have even made my wife look forward to leaving our house at 6am to be to the lots by the time they open at 7am.

So yesterday my wife and I got down to the lot at 7am. We got our tailgate set up and shortly after the other people in our group started showing up. We did egg bake, muffins and bloody's. And we also had some beer as well.

We got into the game just after kick off and made it to our seats. The first half was pretty entertaining football and we were out of our seats cheering on big plays mostly 3rd downs but we also cheer when there is a big stop on a pass play or if Weber drops back to pass we will stand up as he is doing this. We be no means will stand for the whole game.

Get to the second half of the game. Gophers are leading and we are excited. We are standing on all big plays and maybe by this point our excitement has caused us to stand for a few more. We were having a good time. Never swearing, never booing, never making obscene jokes or gestures.

That is when a fan from 5-6 rows behind us comes down and yells (not asks) for us to sit down. My brother and I thought this to be rude. Just ask us to sit. At this point we were not paying attention to how much we were standing and if we would have been ask to sit a little more we would have. Well being yelled at did not go over well. At this point we decided to stand up for good.

About 4 plays after this security came down and told us that we had to sit down or they would get the police and have us removed. We told them that we were at a college football event cheering for the team we loved and that standing at times was a part of the game.

Well after this they got the police. I guess it was a mixture of UMPD and MSP PD. They asked us to go to the top and so we did.

While we were up there an old man behind my wife started to berate her and threaten her that if she did not sit he would follow her out and kick her ass in the parking lot. Shortly after this my wife and my brothers friend we taken to the top by the police as well.

At the top we tried to state our case as they took down our names and addresses and it was at this point I was told that if i continued to talk I would end up being handcuffed and taken out. So I stoped fighting it. I was told I was being escorted out due to game interruption for standing.

When we were at the bottom of the elevator we asked for everyone's names involved in the case and we were told that if we wanted we could get a hold of the U of M and file a complaint but that we would not be given names.

Yeah maybe our standing was too much but I was at a college football game not a theater or a library. And yes i may have said "Go Badgers" yesterday on here but that was out of pure frustration with what had just happened and knowing that no matter who we write or contact that it will do nothing for us as we are just 4 fans compared to a whole University.

I know some will agree that we were treated unfair as some already have on here and some will say we got what we deserve for standing. And you can call me a little b!tch like some have on here. Good job at the name calling as you were just more vulgar with that comment then we were by standing up and cheering on our team.

Some may think there is more to this story but really if there was I would understand and would not be on here. But really it was STANDING that got me and 3 others kicked out. Nothing more and nothing less.

welcome to being a gopher fan is all i have to say, we don't know anything about winning or running a Big Ten football program. It has become a harsh reality.

The same quiet, old alums who sat in the Dome now sit in the Bank. Now they're just older...

Has anyone seen any of the oldies with crossword puzzles since the move to the Bank?

Standing at games - stadium etiquette

As an "old fart," here is my take. I don't mind people standing at games on important downs and, generally and in particular for the Gophers, a one point lead makes 1st, 2nd, and 3rd downs important.

I do object to fans who stand throughout the game, if that is not the norm in the section they are in. In student sections, that is generally the norm, which is fine - no one is being disturbed. However, I object when people, generally new graduates who are used to standing throughout the game, feel they have a "right" to stand throughout the game, when the majority of those in the section they are now sitting in do not do so.

If the situation above actually occurred as described, I would agree that you should take it up with the athletic department, otherwise nothing will change.

isn't it worse that we have Brewster coaching than kicking standers out???

Not cool at all

An NU fan here. We were sitting down the row from you. We were really amazed watching the whole thing. We clearly noticed you jumping up and down and cheering alot, but you didn't seem to be out of hand or abusive to anyone. Was interesting that when the first two got escorted out they sent 2 lady cops, and when then the gal got escorted out they sent 4 big guy cops.

As difficult as it might have been, props to you for being restrained as you left.

BTW, after you all left there was a guy in a blue stadium services windbreaker and a clipboard walking up and down the aisle talking to people, including the old farts behind you. So somebody in the athletic department knows something.

Great stadium, great atmosphere, classy people all around us.

should of got yourself tossed in jail for asking a question, that would of been a news story and a statement would have to be made by no guts maturi.

All I know, if the police were ready to escort us students out in 225 for standing on the taped seats...all we did was stand and say there is nowhere else for me to go and stand...He said I could stand when I was excited, so i told him it was homecoming and I'm really excited for football...the police asked if we wanted to escalate this and we took the highroad, haha

" At this point we decided to stand up for good. "

So you blocked everyone's view on insignificant plays, were politely asked to stop by security, didn't, got the boot, and you are angry about this?

Thanks for acknowledging that.

If you and your family decide to renew (which I hope you do), come on over to Section 243. You would be welcomed over there by fans who know how to cheer.

what do you expect from a University that, in reality, could care less about the football program as long as it doesn't lose money, and how can it the way the B10 shares revenue? A minimal football effort will still generate some profit and probably nearly the same profit that a significantly more expensive effort in the program would. The real loss is in the retail side of 'Gopher Nation". I live in Boise State country and the financial inpact on the retail industry here is impressive. BSU apparel stores are crowded and frequently sold out. BSU apparel displays are every where. You can go into any Albertsons store and find a huge Gameday display confronting you made of blue Pepsi cartons with Orange Crush cartons inset into it spelling BSU. A large pile of Sports Illustrateds is at the checkout with BSU on the cover. On game day, the bars are packed with patrons celebrating the game. They are on the first page on the newspaper every day. There are no pro sports to compete with them. If you want Gopher football back in the lime light, get the retail businesses in the Twin Cities to put the pressure on the administration, they will be the ones to profit the most and they should be raising hell.

Please. Anybody with a brain working at least half-capacity knows this idiot poster did not get removed simply for cheering. I'm all for standing "in the moment" but what about other people? I had a young boy in front of me today who constantly had to stand on top of his seat, then perform minor feats of acrobatics to see in between the adults standing in front of him. No problem, because they stood when expected and then sat down. Had they remained on their feet for long periods, they simply would have destroyed another fan's game experience. Not your right to do. Grow up.

I agree, After seeing different posts about this last year I do feel people either don't care or don't have a brain in there head, which would mean no common sense, about being considerate of other people. Weather you agree with the policy or not, if you are warned about the policy and decide to ignore it then you suffer the consequences. Get a clue.

Just don't get caught bringing a beer into the stadium, they will kick you out. Luckily there are plenty of tickets for sale so you can get back in for $10!

Make sure you file that complaint. Also, email Joel so he can know how you feel. I was over in section 210 row 23 and had some guy tell me to sit down. Just like you I was standing/cheering only on 3rd downs and important plays. I told the guy to either get security or do the job himself. Good thing he didn't get security because I most likely would have been kicked out. Anyways, the guy a row behind this dude tells me to keep standing forcing the guy and his buddy to move seats at half.

By the way my wife says she saw people throwing peanuts at your brother/hat. Was that in good fun? If not why didn't they get booted?

Why stand up when Weber drops back to pass? I am all for standing but standing when Weber drops back to pass would seriously upset me. When someone pops up during the middle of the play you dont have enough to time to pop up yourself without missing any action.

On offense when the QB drops back to pass is the absolute worst time to stand. I dont care what stadium you watch a FB game at, that is piss poor etiquette. At least give the people behind you a chance to stand up without missing the play.

" At this point we decided to stand up for good. "

So you blocked everyone's view on insignificant plays, were politely asked to stop by security, didn't, got the boot, and you are angry about this?

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Common courtesy seems like it should be such an obvious and self-evident thing, but apparently it's not. I think it's great to cheer and get loud and support the team always, and to stand while doing so when (or where) that's appropriate to do so....but if your standing is hindering the enjoyment or the game day experience of the people behind you (think older people or little kids), then sit the hell down and stand when it's appropriate to do so, or move to seats or sections where standing is more acceptable, which is easily doable and then everyone is happy. Anything less than that is just being rude and completely inconsiderate of others feelings, and to decide to stand continuously as you did yesterday out of spite after being asked to sit down, well then you probably got exactly what you deserved.

Pretty sure 'liberals' are the ones bringing flasks and cheering. It's the tight-assed conservatives that do the complaining around here.

Unsure why the first poster had to be a bone head and bring politics into the flask deal, but I think you are probably right about who would have the flasks and who would complain.

Wow. We just love to ruin our fan base. First by putting out a $hitty product and then kicking out the only fans that still give a $hit about our team. Way to go.

Well, when no one cares, then they can join the school's administration...

Exactly what I thought too. Once he said they decided to stand for good, then they were not any better than the guy who originally yelled at them. At that point, the security probably saw them standing 100% of the time, so that's what they had to go by. If they just continued to stand on big plays only, then it may have ended differently.

I understand some of the 'sitters', as my tickets are with my uncle who has a really bad back and his neighbor who's a Vet and has had many surgeries on his knees. They both have had a lot of problems at the Dome with 'standers' infront of them.. Mostly were Michigan fans. Since we've been in the Bank, we have first row seats, so they don't have a problem.

With that said.. This is football. There IS no 'common courtesy'. Only way we are going to have a great collective fan base is if we throw out the 'common courtesy' rules.

Otherwise, be prepared to have a lethargic fanbase, despite the product on the field.

I love coach Brewster and hate standers. Wow am I ever a moron!

do everyone a favor and don't renew.

better yet get viking tickets. you'll fit right in.

funny how this thread turned from........ah, poor fella is removed for doing nothing wrong to he probably should have been removed as more of the story was flushed out. This fan was the warm up, now move up the ladder and see about getting that fool off your sidelines. They can go stand together on a street corner somewhere and block each others view from oncoming traffic.

You are absolutely in the wrong.

I don't care if they were "just security" - when they tell you to sit down, you sit down.

No argument can be made on your side in this situation. Your right to stand on every play does not outweigh the rights of the hundreds of people behind you to see the game.
