I know the tickets that we all buy say "This ticket is a revocable license to attend the athletic event. If the holder's conduct endangers or disrupts the players, coaches, officals or other patrons, the University reserves the right to remove the ticket holder from the premises."

What i did not know was that "disrupting other patrons" meant standing and cheering when your team was up 21-20.

The U of M just lost 8 season ticket holders and 8 lifetime fans. That might no matter to most people here or to the University of Minnesota but to 8 lifetime fans getting kicked out for standing and cheering is never going to be acceptable.

Oh these 8 never were obscene and never swore. Well maybe in MN terms they were obscene by cheering for the team they have loved thier whole life.

Ok I am going to be obscene here and say... Go Badgers! (yes I know they lost today) Yep just got kicked out of my home stadium for cheering (no swearing at all!!!). Just standing and cheering. I am no longer a Gopher fan... and yeah I know most dont give a rats what I have to say.

WTF happened? Instead of taking it out on the athletic program, why don't you contact the administration with a constructive letter, email and meeting to resolve this issue.

I just hate, hate HATE seeing someone turn to the dark side (Becky Badgers).

We were cheering when the Gophers were up 21-20... yeah that means standing on 1st, 2nd and 3rd downs... when we were told by security that if we didnt sit down they would get the MSP police. Well we didnt sit down. And again i want to stress that we were not being obscene or swearing at all. We were just happy to see us holding a lead.

Well the MSP police showed up... we thought they were U of M police but they informed us that they were not.

Then we were asked to go leave our seats... questioned and escorted out of the stadium. This goes beyond a letter or a meeting. My dad who graduated at the U of M in the 70's and pays for all 8 tickets (at a premium price so we can have seat backs and tailgate) was there to see it all and said he will have nothing to do with that university ever again.

If that's true, it is very unfortunate.

While I think it's terrible that "some" Minnesota Fans don't appreciate your behavior, most true fans would join you. I question your anger being pointed at the entire University of Minnesota and Fanbase. I think it should be directed toward the security company they hire. It's a third party hired by the U of M who likely won it through bidding process.

I would call in to question your fandom. If all it takes for you to switch your allegiance to the Badgers is a little hassle with security, I'd say you weren't very loyal in the first place. Perhaps you were a closet Badger fan looking for an excuse to go to the dark side.

If you're just blowing off steam and things will be better in a few weeks, we've got room in Section 243 for you. We rocked today!!

Wow. We just love to ruin our fan base. First by putting out a $hitty product and then kicking out the only fans that still give a $hit about our team. Way to go.

I dont know what i am going to do... maybe being a badger fan is going to far. But really I did nothing other than get cheer on the Gophers by standing up in my paid for seat (granted it was paid for by my dad). I just dont understand gettin kicked out. Somone in the misguided Univeristy of Minnesota has to have something to do with how they handle people who STAND.

Rediculous. Now, if it were me personally, I would have had to been put in cuffs or tased to get 'escorted' out.. But certainly wouldn't have let the ass clowns that tattle-tailed on me win by not renewing my tickets.

But your dad has EVERY right to be pissed. I'd still take this incident to the administration and harp.

and my fandom should not be called into question. Never once have I wavered in my support of the U of M (mainly the hockey and football team). And never has anyone else in my family ever questioned their fandom. Evan though my dad was only 13 the last time the Gophs won a share of the Big Ten Title.

But really getting kicked out for standing is not right. I can understand being drunk or obscene or cursing... but we were none of those. All we did was stand.

THIS! RetroGoldy (BTW, love your avatar.. =P ), use GO4's post as a 'rally cry' when filing your guys' complaint. This is NOT the way to treat a dwindling fan base. Especially with the new stadium.

wow man I feel for you and wouldn't blame you a bit for sayin Fu*k this school. That really pisses me off. We need more fans like you not less!!! I'd write a letter to the AD tho and explain your situation civilly. I kno it sucks but I think if you just put on a person to person level and give all the details I can't see how they would stiff you.

This is just as pathetic as naming our stadium after a bank. I really despise the way the world's turned.

Who complains about fans standing and cheering? That is pathetic!!!!

Yes, it is terrible that some Minnesota fans felt that way. But, I'm still going to call you out on the above statement. A lifetime fan would not say that.

I just didnt know I could get escorted out for standing. And I have people that were around us that will tell you we were not obscene or swearing in anyway.

I should have gotten kicked out in the fourth quarter because I was yelling and swearing a blue streak on that last drive. I emptied out my section pretty fast.

Exactly. Once you cool down, call or the write the AD's office and very calmly insist that they explain why you were kicked out. There are almost certainly records kept of this kind of thing and you should force someone to have to research it. At the very least the head of security or someone will have the unpleasant experience of having to defend a bogus act. They may have to resort to lying, and then you got them. If the reason IS bogus, 'ask' what they are going to do to make things right. At the very least you should insist on a refund. You could go further and insist that if this arbitrary 'enforcement' could cause you to be removed from another game when other fans engaging in the same behavior are basically ENCOURAGED to do so, you are not interested in attending and wish to be reimbursed for the rest of the season. Basically tell them that if that standing and cheering is not allowed, then you feel you were misled when you purchased tickets.

I wish you would have made them put in writing why they were throwing you out of the game.

Would love to see "Removing these persons from the facility for standing up and cheering for the home team" written down.

Actually, a lifetime fan would say that. This isn't about the team, the school, or even the security company.. This was about a FAMILY that was personally hurt about the actions of said school/team/security company. People can make knee-jerk statements or even vows when something such as this personally hurts/embarasses them.

Just like every man has a price.. Every man has a breaking point.

Try just standing in 211, you wont last long. And yean maybe i went to far by saying "Go Badgers" right before that i said I was going to say something OBSCENE. But really... kicked out for standing just sucks.

Delta,

We asked for a reason in writing and all of the names associated with escorting us out... they just told us that if we kept talking that we would be tossed in jail. Trust me I am going to try to get a written report on this but they dont seem to want to help on Saturday night at 7:30pm.

You should email that wimp maturi and see if he has any balls to stand up for ya if he doesn't, then I would agree with your decision

Wow.

I'd send the AD or someone in the Athletic department a pointed note explaining what happened. You might want to point out to them that it's obvious that their security staff has no experience dealing with a dedicated football fanbase and that if they keep on harassing people for trying to cheer on their team they never will.

You can also point out that the cheerleaders are often holding up signs that say 'stand up' when the Gopher D is on the field and that it's beyond stupid to encourage fans to stand up and then kick them out of the game for doing so.

While that would have truly been miserable, and I don't think it would be worth pressing, it would have been awesome if you had pressed them on that one. If they arrested you for talking you could make a serious stink. Probably would have gotten the press interested. 'Family kicked out and arrested for cheering at Gophers game'; wow would a reporter have a field day with that one. The poor performance of the team would have put all the more spin on it. Maybe even some dollar signs for you.

An arrest would be just blatantly illegal, but knowing cops, I'm hardly surprised.

Get ahold of those witnesses and have em call the AD too otherwise this will happen to others TAKE EM ON!!! don't wimp out like the gophers coach!

This is a really lame reason to be kicked out of a stadium

They didn't even arrest the Iowa fans for taking down the goal post how many years ago.
Then they escort Gopher fans out of the stadium for standing and cheering. This could have been handled a lot better than it was. AD Maturi would stand up and support the policy and the security guy's for these guy's being kicked out. God forbid a Gopher fan stands and cheers for there own team. I don't advocate being adversarial but there could have been a better solution. They could have just asked the guy's to move to a different spot where people were not complaining and just being a total hard butt about the policy.

Most fans would leave if, it bothered them enough that someone was standing and cheering, instead of making a big scene and getting security. What little fans we have left and they are kicking Gopher fans out, yeah that makes sense.

That sucks about getting kicked out. Brewster would always say at his Friday booster lunches that he wanted everyone loud and standing and I've also had securty tell me that we have a right to stand. The policy is way too inconsistent. I'm actually going to move my club seats on the 50-yard line next year because of people complaining about fans standing, even on third down. I generally don't stand, but I also don't care if others do. If they are in front of me I join in. While the people are nice (and most very old), I don't know why they come to games. I still have fun with them but it is a horrible environment. They should set up sections that are sitting only.

I personally think that while I meet a lot of dedicated and cool gopher fans, many of them are self righteous a-holes and I think that reflects during game day. Every time I go to another stadium, especially in a college town, the crowds are loud and most everyone stands the majority of the game. People comment on it when they come here all the time, and I'm not talking about opposing fans. I've had plenty of out-of-town friends that just come here to visit that are fans of successful programs and laugh at how stale our crowd is.

Who put up the stink? The people behind you? If so I would like their row and seat numbers, somebody needs to talk them.

This must have happened because there are witnesses on other board

There are witnesses on other board that were at game that are talking about the fans that got kicked out. They said some older guy that look's like Woody Allen complained to security and he is the guy that got these Gopher fans kicked out. All and all, this is not a good reason to be kicked out of a stadium. Swearing, making threats all kinds of stuff to get kicked out for but not standing and cheering.

Retrogoldy, were you the one with the big foam hat? If so, I was sitting 3 or 4 rows behind you in section 211 and I booed the police when they halled your friends away after you had been escorted up the stairs. Also, I yelled at that old guy for messing with your friends. All I saw was you standing and cheering-being good fans. The old guy should have just moved away from your area if he wanted to sit because there was plenty of empty seats!! It's bogus that you guys got escorted out by the police. We need more people
like you and if the Gophers were any good which they are not we would all be standing on every down! Keep up the fight, keep coming to games, and keep standing up!
