Why on earth would we hire a coach that is already on the hot-seat?
A.k.a Anthony Grant.
This would clearly be another Tubby Smith like hire. Grant took over an awful Bama team, instantly made them a contender, with someone else's players I might add. Now, in his fourth season with his own recruits becoming upperclassmen, Grant failed to reach the NCAA tournament. Doesn't this sound like Tubby Smith?
I do not personally know Grant, or watch Bama basketball, but just by looking at their stats (low scoring) (poor rebouding) (poor passing) I see a coach that will not be successful in the Big 10 with what he is inheriting. And once the Hollins duo leaves, who will he recruit in. Minnesota aside from the Big 3? Typically, Minnesota presents poor in-state recruiting. I don't see Grant nailing any of the Big 3 recruits either. Grant also failed to have a successful recruiting class outside of Alabama. The only reason why those recruits committed in-state were due to the strength of the football team in my opinion. And beside that fact, with the 4 and 5 star recruits Grant did commit, regardless of where they are from, Bama is not a winning team. What makes a person think that he will find success at Minnesota if the guy cannot win with 4 and 5 star recruits from his own backyard at Bama?
Judging by the trent of the basketball team at Alabama record wise, Grant is definitely in hot water there. At Minnesota he will be lucky to get a class full of 3-star recruits and I don't think he'll get the best of those players seeing as he can't even get the best of the best recruits in the nation.
Call me what you like, but I will not support coach Grant until I see results. Teague needs to lure in a coach that is a proven winner, not someone that has been in the past, but whose recent coaching has put them on the hot-seat.
Minnesota is an easy scapegoat for poor coaches to start over at. Let's change this trend at Minnesota, Teague!
