Anthony Grant to Interview for Job Thursday AM

Teague isn't gonna hire Flip before he exhausts his Villa 7 Alum....Sorry folks...Grant is up next....after Grant, maybe Buzz and After Buzz maybe someone like Dane Fife...The hire will almost certainly be a Villa 7 Alum...For Teague to do anything different would be like saying the whole program he helped found, was a waste of time.

Why would Grant be before Buzz? If he's looking at successful Villa 7 alum, Buzz certainly has done more than Grant.

I have little faith we will make a "great move," we can't sell beer for profit and hiring coaches has to be harder then selling beer...keeping the fingers crossed boys!

Minnesota Problems

my 2 cents-- the more the Shakathon went on the more I got thinking that his best years were with Grant's players. Now, I admit, I did not go do a bunch of research on who recruited whom, but just a gut feeling. VCU is alot easier for Shaka to recruit to because of the groundwork laid by Grant. As for Grant's lack of offense and plodding style--just win baby. Most Badger fans have learned to like wins in the 50's more than losses in the 70's, I am sure we can too.

I agree. I wouldn't mind wins in the 50's. But the thing is, the SEC is so bad! It worries me that he isn't making the tournament in that conference, but who knows, he may not be the worst coach.

Just so we're all clear - Teague did NOT hire Grant at VCU. He was hired 3 months before Teague even took the AD job.

Grant before Buzz? Because of their history together AND grant can recruit better athletes. I'm not saying I agree that Grant is a better option, but that's probably the thinking. PLUS, Grant is done for the season and easier to talk to than Buzz right now.

Eric Maynor was the key guy. He got there before Grant. I don't think Grant is going to be a for certain slow down coach - he had offenses that scored in the 70's at VCU. The problem is that Grant hasn't done anything extraordinary that says we should go ahead and take the chance. Shaka built a national "brand." If Grant wins here - we will all be happy. That's a very big if, and he will have to do it without a big surge of local excitement. That won't be easy.

The SEC is not THAT bad....Ole Miss did something IU couldn't do twice...take down Bucky.

That was an impressive win, but the SEC could possibly be the 7th best conference in the country.

RichmondInsider doesn't know anything, we should just lock this thread up.

I think it’s sort of funny that the consensus on this board has gone from “We have to fire Tubby, anybody would be better than him!” to “If it’s not Shaka, it has to be Flip or no one will renew their tickets and it will be a disaster.” They hired Norwood largely based on his ability to raise money and to make this hire. He’s a basketball guy. Am I thrilled by Anthony Grant? Nope, I don’t know enough about him to be thrilled. But I am willing to let the guy we hired to make the decision, make it.

I for one am very good friends with Anthony and worked along side him during his time at VCU. I'm connect very very deep into the Richmond basketball scene. Literally EVERYTHING I reported in the Shaka Smart thread turned out to be true. Check for yourself, I reported yesterday he would get 1.5 million a year at VCU and wow guess thats what he got.

That said Anthony WILL interview tomorrow morning.

I'm apparently am in the minority but I think Grant would be a good hire for the U...he is a proven recruiter that was a lead assitant on back-to-back national championship team. My preference would be Buzz but he may be playing for another week and if he makes the final four chances are slim to none Marquette would let him go.

Do we think our "Big 3" had ever heard of Anthony Grant before about a week ago? If not, we shouldn't hire him.

High school prospects would rather come in and play for an old stick in the mud like Flip? Seriously? 18 year old kids at this point just know Flip for his total and utter failings in Washington DC. They would much rather play for a young energetic BLACK man.

More importantly, I want to know if Anthony Grant was sitting next to Shaka at WWE Raw on Monday night...any confirmation?

Flip's no stick in the mud. He's a little older, but he's a hip dude and relates well to young people. Stick to what you know, insider.

You're still here? People in MN do not think of the Washington Wizards when they think of Flip. He's a former Gopher who coached the T-wolves during the only time in history that they were relevant. That being said, I'm not exactly salivating for Flip either. I think we swung and missed with Shaka and now whoever they choose will be a little disappointing.

The Wizards literally quit on Flip. Hes not in anyway hip, to this very day half his old Wizards plays WILL NOT talk to him.

Which would be????

Have you read his posts? That man knows whats going on with Richmond hoops, specifically Shaka , and really specifically, Anthony Grant. He used to work with Grant. So if Grant is not a candidate, it'll probably be the last we hear of him. Although, hasn't the Richmond coach been mentioned as a possibility?

I've noticed very low expectations around Minnesota sports. Little heads up the rest of the country feels he failed miserably with the Timberwolves. He had an insane amount of talent and made it out of the first round what 1 time? It was a total disaster for Flip. Not to mention hes now one of the more boring commentators on ESPN.

Shaw Zobel is reporting that Bobby Knight will be the new coach of the University of Minnesota...too bad he already has deleted that tweet though

I know you're an insider, and I appreciate your work. But I'm not sure youre much of an X and O's guy. He had an insane amount of talent? That is 100% not true. He had one superstar that was unselfish to the point it hurt the team.

Interesting thought, but hopefully Teague's long term plan to bring the U's basketball back to a top tier BIG team, doesn't include who the "Big 3" have or haven't heard of. Regardless of who Norwood hires, Tyrus IMO isn't coming to the U and probably not Vaughn. Although I hope I am wrong. We need a coach and staff that as Caesar once said, "I came, I saw, I conquered" attitude, who can go out and get top recruits who mesh with whatever bb scheme he employs, improve their skills and surround himself with skilled assistants, something really lacking for the past 6 years.
