All Things Royce White Thread UPDATED 10/25: Royce cut by 76ers

How can fast Freddy be so successful in ames, so quickly?

Great practice facility?

It's his second year. Did you crown Tubby a success after his second year and making the tourney?

I am sure the PF helps, but his NBA connections certainly do and he has proven to be a very good prep and game day coach. I was very concerned when Bobby Lutz left after the first season. Consider me over it.

Of course the players matter too. On that note, and the topic of the thread, White was named Big12 rookie of the week for the third time this season. Although Scott Christpherson might be playing better than anyone else on the team right now.

Yeah, Fred isn't doing anything Tubby didn't do his second year. Tubby had top recruiting classes coming in going into his third season and made the tourney his 2nd year. Let me know how Hoiberg does if he loses his two best players all next seasons (Royce and Mbakwe in Tubby's third year), and see if his momentum is stalled considerably. That's not to excuse the crappy ends to the last two season's we're having, but my only point here is that early success is not a given for future success is all I'm saying.

I wish him the best though, I like Freddy.

Difference being that this is Freddy's 2nd year coaching overall, not just at ISU. Completely different situations between him and Tubby.

I'm adopting a new team for this year's tourney

ISU...

First of all: ROYCE

The guy has been totally misunderstood and would have been GREAT as a gopher.

This was not Royce's best game (yet he still had a double double). . .

But today's game against Baylor was great. . .

The type of game I'd like to see from the Gophs.

I'm rooting for ISU during March Madness

You also have MR. Hoiberg there trying his best to start a new chapter

It's disgusting that Fred Hoiberg has had a better season in year 2 at IOWA STATE than Tubby Smith has had in five years at Minnesota. It will be interesting to see if Royce sticks around for a second year in Ames and what the Cyclones do after going 12-6 in conference this year.

Fred has a very very good recruiting class coming in too.

Please enlighten all of us as to what's so disgusting about it. Iowa St. has a much better program than Minnesota historically, and especially so over the last 30 years. It's not even close.

You really like beating that drum, don't you?

Royce White sunk a game-winning jumper with barely a second remaining against Kansas State in Iowa State's last contest. He finished with a game-best 22 points. I wonder what Smith, and especially Joel, are taking this considering White has blossomed into one of the best overall players in the nation, if not the best.

I would just guess they're happy he didn't end up in Stillwater under their watch.

Royce White - 1st Team All-Big 12; Newcomer of the Year; All-Rookie Team

Announced today. Great to see him get his act together. Cyclones have put together a nice season and finished strong. Fun to see what they do the rest of the way in the Big 12 tourney and the NCAAs.

In addition, former Timberwolf and Timberwolf executive Fred Hoiberg named Big 12 Co-Coach of the Year. Not too bad for his second year as a coach.

Does anyone still think Royce couldn't go pro this year and be a 1st rounder?

Pulling off a band-aid....

on a hairy leg, hurts less than watching Royce not do what he does best, as a Gopher.

I wonder if Mr Royce White Undrafted will poke his head in tonight?

Mental issues scare a lot of teams away. That's just the truth. I have no clue where he'd get drafted, if at all, but I do know it will be lower than his talent dictates due to not only his legal troubles, but the fact he suffers from anxiety. Not knocking him AT ALL for having it, but it will scare teams away. As his assault and shoplifting will.

Did this thread really need to moved to a previous thread was started in August and not posted on for 10 days?

Yeah, I don't get how an anxiety disorder lead to him stealing from MOA. I do get how that might have caused him to shove a security guard. But the stealing makes little sense. Still, I'm pulling for him. I want everyone to be as successful as they can be.

Feels anxious about fitting in with his possey? Idk, just guessing.

Royce is getting tunnel vision right now.

Royce, Trevor and Ralph would have been a fantastic front court. Add Al and Blake and the rest and we could have had a final four team last year. Too bad.

Ode to Joel maturi - the man who put Iowa State in the NCAA

The fans in Iowa State Cyclone land should be so thankful that Joel Maturi took control and handled the Royce White debacle while he was a Gopher. Without Joel's heavy handed involvement and needing to make an example out of such a troubled student/Athlete like Royce White, Minnesota would be in the NCAA Big Dance and Iowa State would probably be in the NIT. Joel had to use his AD powers to take control of the situation and to discipline his way verses trusting his 2M per year coach named Tubby Smith to handle his team and personal discipline.

From an Iowa State perspective, thankfully, Joel was able to handle it his way, forcing White out of school since he had becoming disenchanted with his future and his ability to fit into the exclusive club of perfectionists who supposedly wear maroon and gold. Royce learned his lesson and is now able to lead his team on national TV.

It makes me sick to watch RW in an Iowa State uniform. I am happy for him and his team of course, but I would much rather have Royce leading this group of Gopher Athletes in the NCAA. Ahhh what might have been.......

Maybe the new AD will create a new vision, a winning culture, and a program that actually expects to win.

Kentucky game should be interesting, does Iowa State have the ability to kick it up a notch. If their shooters have a big night who knows.

Congrats to Royce and ISU. Boo Maturi. If anyone doubts whether the Gophs would've made the tourney this year with a healthy Mbawke, there can be no doubt that they would've done so with both Trevor and Royce.

Royce is a good player no doubt, but he seems incredibly lazy when he doesn't have the ball.

Of course, don't blame the person who actually acted like an idiot.

This is like the kid who hardly ever studies and does poorly on their tests, and their parents put all the blame on the teacher.
