All Things Nolan Winter Recruitment Thread (Class of 2023, Gophers Offered, Son of Trevor)

i don't expect players to make meaningful contributions until their Jr year

I can kind of see what a gopher line up might look like that far out

no vision as to what Wisconsin might look like. Connor at guard, gus at center and thats about it

Say what? This is basketball not football. The Gophers have had a lot of freshman make meaningful contributions over the years.

yep. delighted when gopher players exceed my expectations. though "a lot" might be abusing the availability bias. There are a lot more Josh Martins than Al Nolens

to wit, if Winters chooses the Gophers, when he is a Jr the team might have: the 5 freshman as Srs, Winters, Cam and possibly Evans. that would be one heck of an 8

I hear ya, but he’s a forward that can shoot and space the floor. I like his game, but Betts is better. Our staff really wants him too it seems like?
I’m not saying he is bad or anything but it’s not like he is some game changing player. I’m not sure if Lakeville has made it to state since he’s been there and they have been a consistent state team

Totally agree. He’s a nice piece, but not likely a centerpiece and you’re right about North not making it to state with him. One year was Covid, but they weren’t a guarantee that year and he was a bench guy and played some JV that year if I remember correctly.

You weren't jealous of the nut puncher?
I thought of him when I wrote that. I think he's the only MN kid on WI that annoyed me. All the rest are big slow white stiffs. Some are okay...but certainly nothing to worry about.

Just looked at it on the hub. He hasn’t even played in a section final

Leuer, it’s their success with bigs that can shoot that makes Wisconsin attractive to Winter imo

Many, many moons ago

1 out of how many? Are you related to Built?

Your Honor, I’d like to introduce Jamison Battle into evidence

Perception can become reality Maybe it’s just me but it seems to be known as a stretch four friendly system I think he’s a Gophers but ?

Minnesota players who were all conference at Wisconsin since 05-06...

Kam Taylor (HM)
Jon Leuer (HM)
Jared Berggren (HM)
Tyler Wahl (HM)
Nate Reuvers (3rd)
Brad Davison (3rd)
Kam Taylor (2nd)
Jon Leuer (2nd)
Jordan Taylor (2nd)
Jared Berggren (2nd)
Brad Davison (2nd)
Jordan Taylor (1st)

If we're gonna complain about losing guys or not caring who we lost, this is the list to reference. I believe you'll see Steven Crowl on there this year. He seemed to dominate in their exhibitions in France and added bulk. It will be a big 3 of Crowl, Wahl, and Hepburn for UW this year. 2 of the 3 from MN.

Does anyone have any actual read on this? The latest Badger article makes me feel he's leaning that way.

Going back to 2007 with Leuer...yeah he had a good senior season. But it's not like he developed into an NBA player or anything.

Just catching up so I’m not sure if this is sarcasm, but he was drafted #40 and stuck in the NBA for 9 seasons. Even started 34 games for the suns in 2016-2207.

I talked to someone who would probably be one of the first to know who said it was 50/50 before he visited the Gophers a few weeks ago. He also said the Gopher staff has done a great job recruiting Winter.

Regardless of how some people have downplayed it…I think Winter is an important player to get. I’ve actually never watched him play in person, but another LN contact told me that Winter is very skilled and the best shooter Lakeville North has had…and that includes Macura. This other person has always felt that Winter would end up at the U….which made me very confident until my conversation with the other guy.

Honestly, I think it would be pretty cool for a Minnesota native to be apart of the turnaround that Ben Johnson is starting at the U. Hopefully he chooses to play for the Gophers…but if not I wish him the best….he is supposedly a very nice young man.

I would like to get him as well, however many Minnesotans are already leading the turnaround lead by Battle and buoyed by the three Freshmen

My point was that going back to Leur to lure a kid in now seems irrelevant as that was a different era. He has a dad who was a starting player and can help him to understand systems etc… better than most/all of the posters on here.
Ben showed last year that there will be plenty of treys to hoist. I think our O is much more exciting to play on.

I actually didn't know that he stuck around for that long. Most of those seasons he didn't start hardly any games.

It is apparent that Nolan did not grow up a Gopher fan. He must have heard so much positive smck about the Gophers from his parents that he wanted to chart his own course to be different. There is no way that a Gopher fan would include the most hated rival in a final 2 with the home school.

A know a family of Florida State Seminole fans down where my dad lives. They do family photos each Christmas in their jerseys. Of course, one boy had to be different and wears Gator gear... every year!

At this point, I almost don't care if Nolan commits or not. His apparent apathy and lack of commitment to the rivalry makes me wonder about his competitiveness, drive, and desire.
