All Things Kerwin Walton Recruitment Thread (Class of 2020)

Is there any sense of which way Kier or Peterson are leaning in their recruitment?

The players he takes, get paid by 3rd parties, who finance those payments themselves and/or with the help of shoe companies or pro rep companies. And these 3rd parties then tell the players which school to sign with.

Like I said, I've read recently some opinions that think he might develop into a 5* kind of talent that can legit help a program like UNC win a national title.

There must be some truth to that, if UNC is still waiting on him.

And so, at least the part "not in the class of players" could be wrong.
Could

After reading the tar heels forum. I really hope he picks us or another non blue blood.

Setting a deadline allows programs to move on instead of just hanging. As Built has said, many programs take the first to commit and do not wait on a kid. But that doesn’t mean that teams don’t slow play some kids and put deadlines on others.

As for Walton, it is time to decide before there are no spots left.
He is not going to have to worry about spots not being left. Maybe at a school, but there will always be plenty of schools that will take him with his level of talent. He's having a hard time with the decision, so be it. He'll figure it out when he's ready, not when fans are.

If he was so keen on UNC he would have committed weeks ago. Clearly there is another team(s) very much in the hunt.

No he will figure it out when fans decide he is ready...

Anyone else feel like Jeff Goldbloom’s character in the first Jurassic Park movie??

Has to be a UNC lock at this point, as this us a Phil Ford example of running the "Four Corners.". Run the clock out so you don't have to actually say no to the hometown squad.

The dad nailed it the first time. Should’ve never corrected him.

caN we all admit this year is unlike any other year? NCAA is likely to pivot with Covid and go to a no sit transfer rule. It makes picking a school harder for some.

Another note this transfer rule is all aau and college coaches are talking about.

FYI - this was coming pre-covivid as revenue sports are Currently the only ones you do have to sit out to transfer for - no worries if you are a swimmer, golfer, gymnast, etc (no penalty for their transfers - so this isn't equal treatment for all participants being legislated by the same organizition)..NCAA scared shiteless of losing another high profile lawsuit like they did to O'Bannon and this one was just waiting to happen. More suits you lose, Less power u have, so adapt or perish.

Why does the no sit transfer rule possibility make it harder to pick? Seems like it'd make it easier, as you aren't locked in as much.

Very large contingent of coaches are against the no sit out rule proposal. They have several concerns. One is APR, one is a feeding ground for the better programs, Investment in the player, graduation rates. That group is in favor of a no sit out rule for those that played for coaches that were fired and coaches taking other jobs.

Coaches are always going to say that. Their opinion is considered, but ultimately this type of rules easing goes way beyond what the coaches want. It's about trying to avoid further OBannon style lawsuits or nip them in the bud.
