All Things Gophers Basketball Class of 2022 Recruiting Thread

Saw a tweet on Cam Heide, the Wayzata kid. He was quoted as saying that Johnson was texting him almost daily and he has enjoyed his opportunities to talk with the coaches.
Not to be completely annoying, but when was the last time a recruit said he had a horrible time chatting with a coach or on a visit?
The good news is that we know Ben is on it for high priority local recruits. Would love to see Tre be first commit but Cam would be huge for momentum on the recruiting front.
I had thought there was a good chance he was going to Purdue. I would love to get him...and Holloman. If that happens, Ben Johnson would be off to an incredible start as coach.

We definitely need some good news soon on that front. What Ben needs is for a couple guys like that to step up early and commit. That makes it cool for others to follow and gives them confidence that they will have a chance to develop a winner. Cmon guys- who is going to lead the charge!!??

We would be cooking with gas. The comments from Heide are very encouraging both from chances of getting his commitment and seeing how hard Ben is working on local recruiting.

This 2022 MN class is so deep (and getting deeper as AAU season starts) and he'll have success getting guys to commit, but have to get commits from that Tre/Watson/Heide/Lee/Carrington group.

Yeah, there are two things at play here. What each individual fan wants as success by year 3 and what Mark Coyle told Ben his expectations are each year going towards year 3.

So we can guess all we want, but there is an objective goal that Mark has set for Ben, if there isn't I don't think he'd be an AD.
I am sure Coyle has ideas for where the program needs to be as Johnson's time unfolds. But I also doubt he has a lot of locked in place benchmarks that have to be met. A good AD is constantly evaluating the programs and adjusting expectations year by year.

Fans tend to way oversimplify the whole process. When it comes to firing coaches many fans want to look at it like it black or white as opposed to some shade of grey.

Getting back to the topic at hand.....will be very interesting to see how this 2022 recruiting cycle plays out. Should be a big class and hopefully he is able to snag some good local and National talent.

When was the last time we heard a recruit say he was texting daily with Pitino? #lazyexchoach

Its not over till the fat lady sings, but its going to be unbelievably hard. Purdue is going to probably one of the better teams in the country this year and Minnesota probably won't.

Understatement Award!

Noticing a lot of offers to Texas players. Does Johnson have a lot of connections down there?

Watson-Saulsberry, a top 2022 prospect for @grassrootshoops, was offered by the new #Gophers staff "who already believe in me," he said. The athletic 6-8 junior has no frontrunners but says he fits the "style of play at Minnesota and the culture they're building there."

sorry. I'm pretty sure we don't have a style and Johnson hasn't thought of any possibility of how we'll be doing things. I've heard he's been on vacation the whole time or hasn't left his office. Unsure of which

Wait we were told the style of play was going to be determined by the players we got, how could he have been told what our style is when its clear we have no idea what the roster will be in 2022?

Who said this? It certainly wasn't Ben Johnson.

Of course it was not Ben. He sells him on who he is, what he stands for, how he would fit in ball screens, flairs, sides and defense. He can speak in generalizations of hie philosophy and then tweak it for roster versatility. The best coaches make minor adjustments to the core of what gets implemented and practiced. For those that want specifics, good luck. Ben will say little, as it should be.
