All Things COVID-19 College Football Impact

You think? The usual folks will come up with their own analysis or plans of action or denials but the figures of the U.S. having 4% of the world's population and 22% of the world's Covid deaths are pretty hard to gloss over. I'm of the opinion if we weren't run by this buffoon, we'd be looking forward to seeing the Gophers playing football this September.
If you honestly think the rest of the world's covid positive numbers are accurate, you might as well go back to living under your rock.
Goodness this ignorance.. I bet you actually think China only has 68,000 cases 😂

If the Big Ten starts football on thanksgiving, Trump will claim he got them to play in fall. Apparently, Thanksgiving is fall.

(even though it had already been announced before Trump’s publicity stunt, and even though Trump was crystal clear he meant right now in Sept)
Well, winter is December 21, so knowledgeable people know Thanksgiving is fall....
... I guess that isn't you slick 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s not that big of a deal, but is equal parts insulting and humorous. Was it a feeble attempt by the COP/C to present a unified front, or a little white lie to help deflect individual slings and arrows? We may never know.

Or you have no idea. But anyway

Publicly stunt or not, it’s a hell of lot better than not being interested in the Gophers playing this fall. Oh, wait a minute. That‘s what some of you And MplsGopher are you so stupid to still believe in the Russia hoax?
So I take it you haven't read the G.O.P-lead Senate panel report that confirmed the findings of special counsel Mueller....

This year is so messed up that I don't think you can take anything off the table. But it still gets back to the same place. The vote was 11-3 to ppd. 5 votes would have to change. What has changed that would make anyone change their mind? If we can get some games in the spring I'll take it.
Many may have assumed that all the Power 5 conferences would follow them eventually and cancel this fall. Obviously, that has not happened.

President Trump inserted himself squarely into the Big Ten’s plan to return to play on Tuesday, setting up the most intriguing matchup we may see in the league this fall. It’s the United States president lined up against the Big Ten presidents, a battle of wills and political allegiances, all disingenuously put forth in an attempt to capture the hearts and minds of voters in swing states.

Trump tweeted on Tuesday afternoon that he spoke to embattled Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren about “immediately starting up Big Ten football.” He added that the decision was “on the one yard line.”

To say multiple sources denied the notion of the Big Ten playing immediately would not be strong enough. The sources heartily laughed at it. The notion of playing around Thanksgiving is in embryonic discussion, and there’s a desire among coaches to start as early as possible. But “immediately” is in another universe, especially with multiple Big Ten teams not even having players on campus right now.

Trump’s transparent setting up of Warren as a political punching bag this fall to court votes in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan is so obvious that the only surprise is that he didn’t do it sooner.

The irony here being, of course, that if the previous guy had done the same thing, said the same things, the masses would be lauding him as a champion of college athletics, a real difference-maker!! Someone who really, truly CARES about the college student athlete!

Yikes! Politics is seeping into everything.

One thing all fans can agree on: We want our football back!

Let's hope that the Big Ten leadership figure it out how to make this possible ASAP. We need our sports drug back.

Only if it can be done safely, though.

The safety of the players and staff supersedes my need for entertainment. I think we both agree.

So I'm considered a liberal for suggesting that we follow science etc.?

That's how it works.

Political parties, science, education ... random tire companies, beans, everything is an identity used to separate people and make them fearful of listening to anyone else.

So then all it takes is a tweet, 10 seconds of effort, and folks applaud it ...

Good news is, you will be stuck in your moms basement for another 4 years while Orange Man Bad is President. KAGA
KAGA? So .... Keep America Great ......... Again

Because, you know, America is great now ... and we want to keep it that way ......... again ....

😂

Read this yesterday, and it is absolutely the brutal truth of this ill, suffering country:

“We are locked in a cold civil war,” the journalist Anand Giridharadas writes in his new newsletter, The.Ink.

The U.S. has become “two countries impermeable to each other,” where each side thinks the other presents an existential threat to the idea of America and where persuasion is all but impossible, Giridharadas writes. He leaves no doubt about which side he’s on: He described Fox News’s coverage of the Republican convention as resembling “a complete, coherent, airtight, fascistic world.”

But much of his description will still resonate with Trump and his supporters. “The cultural civil war that has been simmering underneath the surface is now boiling,” writes Ben Domenech, the publisher of the conservative website The Federalist, amid protests over police violence.

I just blocked him as well.
I encourage people to block me. Truly.

I don't want to converse with you. I don't want to "see your side" or "walk in your shoes". I don't care if we share the same passion for Gopher athletics, when you turn every thread into a RW conspiracy theory.

If my style and opinions take away your joy in using this forum, please do block me. It is a fantastic feature, that doesn't get used enough. Thank you

I gave you the three options. One, the other, or both.
But there are four valid options, with the last being the most likely: you have no clue what the specifics of the process were, nor does anyone. You're just taking a wild guess, which is mostly based on what you want to be true, rather than evidence.

Good news is, you will be stuck in your moms basement for another 4 years while Orange Man Bad is President. KAGA

Congrats on your evolution. You went from only posting about Kevin Warren on every comment to now repeating the "your Mom's basement" line all the time. You're a Two-Trick Pony! You really did it!!

I don’t believe the presidents ever intended to not have any season — unless the SEC et al seasons end in catastrophe.

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH WAITING FOR A BIT.
It is just the usual attempt by Trump to avoid any discussion why this country has many, many more Covid deaths per capita than any first world country.

Let me go out on a limb for you, maybe it has something to do with the way we reported the Covid deaths? Maybe all Covid deaths being subsidized had something to do with an inflated cause of death?

But that has been debunked.

If anything, covid deaths have been undercounted. People died at home, afraid to go to the hospital, and by the time someone checks on them the virus is no longer active in the dead body so the test is negative.

I didn't read the thread but I think it's highly unlikely that a bunch of university presidents are going to want to hear Trump crowing about how he (alone!) saved Big Ten football.

The Big Ten footprint (esp. OH, MI, WI, IA, PA) will likely decide the 2020 election. Don't think for a second that Trump isn't playing this aspect.

In fact, I think they could drag their feet to deny him this optic.

Yes, the lefty B1G should stick to their no football, self imposed, death penalty. Stick it to Trump and bury the league in debt. That will teach Trump for meddling.

don't want to hijack the thread further into politics.

But - even if there are people out there who are actually going to base their vote for President on the issue of whether or not there is B1G Football this fall, there are not enough of them to swing the election.

I mean, seriously - the economy - a pandemic - "law & order," race relations - all of the issues in this campaign, and someone is actually going to base their vote on B1G football?

"I was going to vote for Biden, but Trump got the B1G to play football, so now I'm voting for him!"

Another possibility:

the B1G Presidents knew they would get flack for voting to postpone the season. So they agreed that no one would talk about their deliberations or reveal how anyone voted. a pact of silence.

I think it's entirely plausible that a bunch of academics thought they could do this and still manage to stay out of the spotlight - while deliberately or not, leaving Warren to face the music while the rest of them hid behind the shield of anonymity.

Gable's response sounds like it was drafted as a classic non-answer answer. it's a politician's response.
Trying to avoid saying anything without telling a deliberate lie.
