All Things Class of 2025 Gophers Basketball Recruiting Thread

With the increase of scholarships from 13 to 15, I think high recruits will be important as well as the portal. You can take a chance on a high school recruit who might develop when you have 2 extra scholarships.

That really changes recruiting making high school kids more important. You can't go out and get 8-10 prospects in the portal every year. Every now and then fine but not every year. Ability to take a chance grows a bit also.

This will be a make or break year for Ben Johnson. The team needs some real success, and the recruiting of high school players has to get better. Free agency for players makes it very difficult for mediocre teams to get better and stay that way, as is indicated by the loss of Gopher starters who transferred for big paydays elsewhere.

It should be easier for Minnesota to get good HS recruits now that the big boys are spending more time at scoring major transfers. But we aren't taking advantage yet....

IMO with the gophers limited NIL funds they can’t afford to overlook/undervalue prep recruiting. Old typically wins so yes getting transfers is needed but if they’re less talented it won’t get us the results we desire.
I'm still in favor of prep recruiting, but the focus should be on guys like the one that signed this summer. Lower ranked players that are hungry and willing to stick around and develop, similar to Kayden Betts. We have a better chance of signing those kids and also are not required to allocate as much resources to securing a commitment.

Huh, this just went into effect prior to this season?
