All Things Class of 2015 Recruiting - Class Finally Complete? Nope Chris Obekpa visit

Do the gophers have any interest in the junoir from cretin derham hall, Sam Neumann? The kid went off during the timberwolves showcase which pitino had a front seat at, seems to be an excellent sharp shooter, would be an excellent kickout teammate for jarvis.

Pitino and Ben Johnson weren't there for the CDH game. They left after the Grand Rapids morning game, skipped the CDH game, came back at halftime of the DeLaSalle game, and then left again before the Apple Valley game. Neumann only has low D1 offers at this point as far as I am aware.

Pitino actually didn't skip, he had to be at team practice.

Makes sense, thanks for the info. I was mildly surprised that Pitino didn't stick around for the Apple Valley game to see Gary Trent Jr. If we aren't actively recruiting him yet, I think we should be. Sky's the limit for that kid as a freshman, huge potential in my opinion. I really hope we can land either him, Amir Coffey, or both as wing players in the future.

We are in very good shape with Amir. At this point I'd be surprised if we don't land him.

What makes you think that? Prefacing that I'm not asking for a link or source, but just curious as to why? Sure hope you're right. Also wondering if anyone has seen him play this year and what their thoughts are on how he looks.

Strengths:
Adams is a long competitive combination guard that is more of a shooting guard at this stage of his game althrough he can move to the point and create for himself or teammates. Adams attacks the basket on the break and can finish at the rim in traffic. In the halfcourt he is an excellent wing scorer and slasher. He splits defenders and can beat his defender off the bounce. Adams can also hit the open jumper to the arc when he has time and his feet are set. Adams is a good passer when running the offense or when he attracts multiple defenders when he can drop off or kickout to open teammates spotting up or cutting to the basket.

Weaknesses:
Adams is already pretty strong for his age and size but he will need to continue to add strength hone his point guard skills and work to become a better defender both on and off the ball which he is more than capable.

Bottom Line:
Adams is a athletic combination guard that can score, handle and pass pretty well. He makes plays off the bounce on a consistent basis. Adams game is still developing althrough he is already very productive. Adams has tremendous upside.

IU recruit Alex Illikainen still weighing options (indystar <> January 30, 2014)
"One of the top competitors for Indiana could be Illikainen’s home-state school. New Minnesota coach Richard Pitino made it clear when he arrived that the scholarship offer was on the table. Ben Johnson was recruiting Illikainen as an assistant at Nebraska before taking a job under Pitino at Minnesota.

“Being from Minnesota, I’ve watched the Big Ten growing up and it’s a very competitive league,” he said. “Once (Pitino) got the job there I went down and visited with him and they said they definitely still wanted me.”

Go Gophers!!

Can't see us having a shot with a North Carolina native that is ranked in the top 15. Duke and UNC would seem to be the favorites, among other near by schools.

Huge Recruits In House For Badgers Victory Over Spartans(Feb 10th, 2014 )
The Big 2015 Recruits Who Were in Attendance:
Henry Ellenson: Four-Star 6-foot-9 Power Forward from Rice Lake, WI.
Jarvis Johnson: Four-Star 6-foot-1 Point Guard from Minneapolis, MN.
Diamond Stone: Five-Star 6-foot-10 Center from Milwaukee, WI

It's a good thing we had Jarvis in for our win over Wisconsin. I have no idea why Diamond Stone would want to play for Wisconsin, I think he ends up at Duke or North Carolina and if he decides to stay in-state I'd say Marquette.

Pioneer Press: Rice Lake's Henry Ellenson tops talented group of 2015 basketball recruits

Interesting quote here:

But what about wearing some University of Minnesota garb in support of brother, Wally, a seldom-used sophomore on the Gophers men's basketball team, a school that has offered Henry a scholarship?

Nope, he said, adding, "I don't think that it's working in the Gophers' favor when (Wally) isn't getting any playing time."

Why is the PP doing a feature on Henry when A) he doesn't live in the state much less the metro area, B) they haven't done any features on Jarvis or Alex? My guess is they heard he was no longer considering the Gophers (like the rest of us) and they wanted to do a story to draw attention to that.

Jarvis is closer to 6'2" than 5'11". I also wouldn't describe him as a swing guard. He's about as pure of a point guard as you'll find.

Either give Wally playing time or we aren't cheering. Good riddance. The family won't be missed.

Why wouldn't Diamond want to play for UW? Home state school with a lot of recent success and good players in the pipeline that he could play with. The system uses bigs in a variety of ways, and he's been at the last two games to see a freshman used pretty extensively in the post. I certainly couldn't fault him if he chose one of the blue bloods that are pursuing him, but I believe UW will be in the mix to the end.

They've been a jump shooting team for a while now. Even their best big men, Leuer, Butch, Nankivil, Wilkinson etc. were more shooters than true big men. Ellenson seems like a better fit. Also, in an early GH interview Stone said he grew up liking Duke and North Carolina the most as a kid. So I think he ends up at one of those two. I also think playing for Marquette along with Duane Wilson would be attractive if he wants to stay close to home. When Wisconsin gets highly touted in-state kids, it is usually an early commit, not one that goes up to signing day like Stone's likely will. We'll see what happens though.
