All Things Christian Wiggins Recruitment Thread (Wayzata Guard, 2026)

Sure, but this would the exact opposite result of the primary reason Ben was hired. Geezo beezo none of this stuff makes sense.
Maybe Ben was good at convincing people to come but not good at selection who to recruit. I don't know. Too many variables. All we do know is Medved put out the offer and now there is a better than zero chance. We like better than zero chances.

This is completely style of play and I believe that Ben was a bad match for MN high school players style of play.

Because I've been very positive on the Niko hire, and understand it's going to take a few years for him to build a program here?

Ben's piss poor recruiting is exactly why the Gophers have been so bad, and Wiggins is another reminder of that. He did Niko zero favors.
rather than dwell on past be optimistic about future

Life is more fun that way

When you say style, are you referring to the fact that the Minnesota kids wanna play somewhere where they run an actual offense. I watched the high school state tournament. Most of the high school teams run a better offensive set then the Minnesota Golden gophers.

Recruiting is way more than throwing money at the guys with big statistics. Maybe certain kids don't study and can't get into a particular school, maybe he and mom just want to stuff the stat sheet, maybe after meeting the family the coaches smell weed in the house, or maybe the kids feels he has too much talent to work harder and be humble. Only the coaching staff knows these things at their priority, and as fans we have to trust them, while being as supportive as possible with our presence and dollars. I have to believe the staff has a "war room" board updated daily for every MN bb need, and prioritizes their prospects based on all variables. Patience at this point is golden, and the real portal/recruiting action starts this week!

....and coffee is for closers, anyway. 😉

Sure, but that doesn't slow good recruiters down.

There was a 99.99% chance that Jalen Suggs was going to play basketball in college, yet PJ recruited him at QB until the very end.
Sounds like a gigantic waste of time on PJs part.

No, recruiting high profile local athletes who now play in the NBA is not a waste of time. Especially when Suggs publicly said if he ended up playing football it would have been for PJ.

There’s a reason why PJ has locked down the border and has had highly recruited players like Carroll and Howard come back to play for him.

What did PJ and Gopher football get out of recruiting Jalen Suggs? All it did was lead to laughable headlines like this one:

You didn't understand a single word in my post and that's okay, Johnny. The world is full of frontrunners just like you that shit their pants at even the thought of failure.

I'm not sure how you could say he's locked down the border when looking at the last 2 classes. I'm happy he's recruiting the state well but he's also missed on 2 prospects last year and 3 the year before.

That has absolutely nothing to do with Jalen Suggs however.

The #1 player in the state has been a Gopher 3 years in a row whether straight out of HS or taking a 1 year detour like Howard.

Recruiting is all about building relationships, especially locally. Having good relationships with top players like Suggs matters even if they don't commit here. The next one might.

100000% this. People act like top local commits don't talk/aren't friends.

What can really be said in a positive note about Ben other than he was a kinda a nice guy? We have a professional in the building now so things will be brighter. I keep repeating to my buddies that I hope Niko’s here for 20 years. That more than anything would mean we finally get our shit together again for the basketball team.
