All Things 2024 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Have a night, Max.

- 6th / 3 run bomb to tie
- 9th / Catches line drive to wipe the bases clean by starting a DP
- 10th / A's walk Correa to set up a lefty-lefty match up & he promptly ends it by driving home the ghost runner.

And becomes the all time leading HR hitter at Target field with his 81st.

FWIW - ran across an article in The Athletic about Tyler Rogers having a really good season as the set-up man for the Giants. (23 K and 1 BB in 33 innings) What I did not realize is that Taylor Rogers is generally being used only in low-leverage situations. (0 saves) Taylor's numbers are good, but he's accumulating those numbers in a lot of situations where the team is behind.

it wasn't that long ago when Taylor Rogers was the Twins' best relief pitcher. made the All-Star team in 2021. and now he's a mop-up man for the Giants.

just goes to reinforce that relief pitchers have a short shelf-life.

It was a blah move at the time, but picking up Willi Castro has ended up being a great decision. He's not a stud but he's been pretty damn solid this year especially. He's been an above average hitter while being able to play a lot of positions. Very valuable and probably underrated.

looked at the Twin Cities weather (redundant for posters who live there....) and looks like rain all day.

there should be a window on Sunday for the DH. a lot more rain in the forecast, but not supposed to start until overnight on Sunday. Monday is a scheduled day off.

but - Twins have Tampa Bay at home Tues-Thurs. (only time all year TB scheduled to play at MN). Forecast Tuesday 70% chance precip/60% Tues nite. Wednesday 30% during the day; 40% at night. Thursday 50% during the day; 50% at night.

I could see a DH on Wednesday - but if it rains Thursday, that will be tricky to make up.

silver lining - gives some the pitchers added rest and gives bullpen a chance to reset.

not surprised it's a split DH on Sunday. Two separate gate admissions. owners just don't give away free games anymore. but I still mourn the loss of the Twi-night double-header. (for younger readers, the Twi-night DH would start late afternoon - maybe 5:00pm or so - in order for the second game to get done at a reasonable hour. this was back when game times were generally shorter. now with the pitch clock, maybe it's an idea that could return?)

saw a tweet on the St. Paul Saints game on Saturday.

Wallner went 4-for-4 with a HR. on the flip side, Julien 0-for-4 with 2 K and Brooks Lee 0-for-4 with 1 K.

But - the story of the game - Randy Dobnak goes 6 IP with 0 runs on 2H with 1 BB and 10 K.

Twins added Varland as the extra guy for the DH. Ober and Paddack are the scheduled starters, so I assume they're OK using him out the the bullpen again.
