All Things 2024 College Football D2 and D3 Thread

With all of the upper mobile teams, D2 and D3 have less talent. The MIAC other then SJU, should participate in the the 6A tournament, if you look most of the guys at SJU played at these schools, bring back STU to make it interesting.
There is no possible way a sober person wrote this word salad.

I'm still amazed at what Mt Union continues to do. They've had two seasons in the past 34 where they've lost 2 games. The other 32 they've lost 0 or 1. Amazing.

That kind of domination can lead to being "St. Thomased" out of the league. The American Southwest Conference practically disbanded last year for similar reasons. As much as Mount Union's domination is amazing, so is the patience of the Ohio conference. I suppose part of it is that they probably don't dominate in all sports.

Two big games in the NSIC this weekend.

Minnesota Duluth Vs. Augustana. Two conference powerhouses going head-to-head. UMD’s only loss is to MSU Moorhead, while Augustana lost to South Dakota State and also MSU Moorhead. This is one that could have playoff implications.

Minnesota State Moorhead Vs. Winona State. MSUM is back on track after beating a ranked Augustana. The question is can they be consistent. They dropped McKendree after beating ranked UMD. Now they’re on the road at Winona, a place they haven’t won in since the 1990s. It’s a big game for the Dragons but could be a tough one.

WIAC conference play begins this weekend with 4 of the 5 nationally ranked teams playing against each other. Sloshkosh vs Whitewater and Platteville vs La Crosse

It was funny for a while but it is time to grow my ignore list.

There is no possible way a sober person wrote this word salad.
Possibly the effect of strong drink, but my money would be on mental illness what with the weird obsession and word salad. I won't name any names, but there's more than one poster who frequent these boards that could use a separate O.T. forum - maybe call it Amityville Forum or something.

John Carroll, who was usually Mount's toughest test in the OAC, is moving to the NCAC next year. Will be good for the Purple Raiders to have another non-conference game.

I’m a stout fan and alum but I think la crosse is still ranked because they lost to a top 3 division two team and then lost to plattville and oshkosh. Personally I think that should drop them out until they get back above 500 but I do think they’re still a very good team. Hoping my blue devils can get another big win in river falls this weekend.

The easy explanation is that its hard to rank programs that don't play each other, don't play common opponents, and don't play further than a bus ride away.

I suppose there's an issue of parity or lack thereof, too. If you look at the FCS level, for instance, its nearly impossible to rank teams outside of the top 10 or even the top 5. There's such a gulf between best teams and even the good teams that its almost silly to try to rank teams beyond #10.

Div III is weird, the 3rd rank team in the nation, needed a 75 yard TD in the last minute of the game to win against Concordia. They most likely would get eaten up by a stronger team, yet they are rated 3rd.

MIAC Football schedule today:

Northwoods Division:

St. John's (5-0/3-0/0-0) at Carleton (2-3/1-2/0-1)

St. Scholastica (2-3/1-2/0-1) at St. Olaf (5-0/3-/1-0)

Skyline Division:

Concordia (3-2/2-1/0-0) at Hamline (2-3/0-3/0-1)

Augsburg (2-3/1-2/1-0) at Bethel (4-1/2-1/1-0)

Cross-over game:

Gustavus (3-2/2-1/1-0) at Macalester (0-5/0-3/0-1)
-------
(FWIW - St. Olaf is at St. John's on Sat, Nov 9. barring upsets, winner of that game will likely face Bethel in the Conference Championship game.)

and for the heck of it - WIAC football

on Friday, it was UW-Whitewater 66, UW-Stevens Point 0
(Whitewater is 4-2/2-1 - Stevens Point 1-5/0-3).

today:
UW LaCrosse (2-3/0-2) at UW-Eau Claire (2-3/1-1)
UW-Stout (4-1/2-0) at UW-River Falls (4-1/1-1)
UW-Platteville (5-0/2-0) at UW-Oshkosh (3-2/1-1)

Stout has taken advantage of some critical turnovers by the falcons and lead 27-6 at halftime. Go blue devils!

I'm watching Platteville and Oshkosh. Oshkosh hurting themselves with turnovers. Tried to watch Bethel and Augsburg, but the Auggies were getting hammered and the student announcers for Bethel make PA seem conservative by comparison.
