All Things 2024-25 Vikings Regular Season Thread

I think/hope so is the under; this is such an unexpected run with that once in a generation type momentum, akin to the Twins WS runs, how can you not want to be in the building?

It’s electric: I still remember that feeling seeing Game 6 in ‘87 WS and when American Pharaoh won the Triple Crown. I’m smiling just thinking about it😃.
I'm not sure the "unexpected run" factor makes much of a difference. 2 different Vikings Season ticket holders I know sold their seats long ago, to basically offset the price of the other 7 regular season games & exhibition.

Another family friend of my Dad's had Viking season tickets going back to the Met. He was a Packer fan though, so he would get rid of all the other games except Green Bay. It was cool though, early 80s, he gave us the tickets he couldn't resell at least half a dozen times. I think every game it was either the Lions or the Bucs.

My comments were regarding people who haven’t sold their tixs yet: hence, the unexpected run narrative, thst wouldn’t be applicable to those who already sold them, “a long time ago.”

My supposition is that fans who still have their tickets at this juncture, likely won’t sell them now. I would of course have no clue regarding fans who have already sold them, would I😉?

While I fancy myself an erudite fellow, I’m certainly not in the this guy’s league -

You realize he runs the scout team offense, right? It would take 2 injuries for him to see any snaps in a game. Otherwise the chances are 0.0%.

From NFL.com: "Though he's joining via practice squad initially, Jones will receive a chance to earn the backup job behind Darnold. Minnesota received a reminder of their lack of quality quarterback depth last week when Darnold appeared to suffer an injury and was briefly replaced by Nick Mullens before returning."

Besides, I thought for sure I had heard that Jones has to play before the end of the regular season. You think it's an insurmountable task in 4 weeks or so of practice to show more than Nick Mullens? Lighten up, Jake.

Will the percentage of Packer fans be less than 40%?

Honest question.

Money talks, and capitalism is alive and well. If someone wants to pay me $3000 to stay at home and watch a football game, who am I to stand in their way?

Never understood people who get so pissed about other ticket holders dumping their tickets.... mind your own business, I would say.

Where did I say was even remotely angry about it much less dismayed?

I totally get why it happens. It's also a 2 way street, as I clearly recognize lots of Vikings fans buy tickets and travel to road games. Including today.

My original inquiry was kg21 stating "it will be loud next Sunday". No duh. However, a large percentage of the decibel level will be Cheeseheads.

30%? 35%? 40%? 45%?

If the Vikings lose to the Packers next week, I'd sit the starters against Detroit. There's not enough difference between the 5 and 6 seeds to be worth going all in to win in week 18, though I would rather not play the Rams.

If KOC doesn't win coach of the year then the NFL is wrong. He now the Coach of the year no question ask.

Packers and Vikings will be loud and i hope Tom Brady is there to call it.
You’re not alone my friend , per The Vikings website, which was posted on 12/19.-

Lunchbreak: Kevin O'Connell Leads Votes for Coach of the Year in NFL Survey

Kevin O'Connell would be the last person to ask for recognition. So it's nice when others vouch for him.

In this case, peers across the league are lauding him as their runaway pick for NFL Coach of the Year.

Tom Pelissero on Wednesday revealed the results from his annual early awards survey, which polled a group of high-ranking executives. Twenty-seven individuals participated on the condition of anonymity.
We repeat: The Vikings head coach was a sweeping favorite.

Pelissero shared the following about O'Connell, who has formed a culture respected across the NFL:
It was a landslide win for O'Connell, who received 16.5 votes -- 13.5 more than any other candidate. He has the Vikings in position to win the NFC North and potentially secure the No. 1 seed with a castoff quarterback, Sam Darnold, playing the best football of his life on a one-year contract. Only the Packers have led for more total game time this season than the Vikings, who also have seven comeback wins and seven one-possession wins. Few teams are as well-trained at situational football.

In his third season at the helm, O'Connell is on the cusp of matching his 2022 wins (13) and doubling the preseason win total set by the betting markets (6.5). He's transcended the low expectations for his team. Well, low external expectations

One reason O'Connell's culture is so strong this year is the belief he's instilled in the Vikings locker room. Players are grounded, confident and selfless – in large part because O'Connell has exhibited those traits.

For what it's worth, Pittsburgh's Mike Tomlin garnered the next most votes (3), and four others were considered to some degree: Dan Campbell (2), Andy Reid (2), Sean McVay (1.5) and Sean McDermott (1).

Unsurprisingly, more Vikings received love from league executives.
Outside linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel received one vote for Defensive Player of the Year; T.J. Watt led that category with 13.5. We'll add the separation should not be so great. "Gink" has 9.0 sacks, 15 tackles for loss and two interceptions returned for touchdowns. Watt has 11.5 and 18, plus six forced fumbles.

Also, in the tightest race on Pelissero's survey, Vikings General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah collected 2.5 votes for Executive of the Year, succumbing to Detroit's Brad Holmes (6), Buffalo's Brandon Beane (5) and Philadelphia's Howie Roseman (4.5). In our book, Adofo-Mensah is most deserving because he brought in arguably the most impactful free-agent class in franchise history, headlined by Darnold, Van Ginkel, Aaron Jones, Sr., Jonathan Greenard and Blake Cashman, and because of his expert acquisition of veteran left tackle Cam Robinson after budding star Christian Darrisaw suffered ACL and MCL injuries.

From NFL.com: "Though he's joining via practice squad initially, Jones will receive a chance to earn the backup job behind Darnold. Minnesota received a reminder of their lack of quality quarterback depth last week when Darnold appeared to suffer an injury and was briefly replaced by Nick Mullens before returning."

lol!

Besides, I thought for sure I had heard that Jones has to play before the end of the regular season.
No, he doesn’t. If he is activated, however, he somehow figures into the compensatory draft pick formula.

You think it's an insurmountable task in 4 weeks or so of practice to show more than Nick Mullens?
The Giants paid him $22.5 million to not play for them. They signed him to evaluate him for next season and possibly get a compensatory pick to boot.
Lighten up, Jake.
😂

Were we having a discussion about paying Jefferson a while back?

Yeah, that one was on me and I'm here to admit I was wrong.

In my own defense: my reasoning was I didn't like the idea of paying a wide receiver big bucks when the QB situation was so unsettled; after all, even the greatest wide receiver has diminished value if the team has no one who can get him the ball. I never in a million years thought Sam Darnold would come close to performing like he has this season.

As I said, I was obviously dead wrong. Sam, I apologize. It has been a blast to see you prove your doubters (including me) to be so very wrong about you.

Will this game get flexed to a night game?
NBC was already plastering promos of Atlanta @ Washington for next Sunday during tonight's game.

The Cousins benching with the rise of the Commandos and both teams in Playoff contention make it pretty attractive for ratings.

seems odd since FanDuel, Caesars have it Vikings -1.5
Yes, I made a mistake, I transposed something 😱, I make mistakes everyday .

What’s odder to me, is that of all the posts made following one of the best game winning drives in Vikings history, this is the post you choose to comment on 🤔.

Merry Christmas.

KOC’s locker room speech/game balls.

On Sunday, kicker Will Reichard drilled 48- and 52-yard field goals. Punter Ryan Wright averaged 50 yards per boot.

Nice to see the specialists recognized as well.

A couple of snippets from the article -

Teams and quarterbacks are always inextricably linked, but all of this feels like it has reached an even deeper level. Quarterback and team believing in themselves when others do not. Quarterback and team being doubted even after early success. Quarterback and team becoming undeniable with each successive late-game response.

In the last week, Jefferson has twice compared the locker room vibe of this team to his 2019 LSU Tigers, who won the national championship.

Another interesting factoid -

Only the 1999 Kurt Warner-led St. Louis Rams have exceeded expectations through 15 games to a greater degree than these Vikings over the past 36 seasons, according to historic Vegas preseason win totals.

If the Vikings lose to the Packers next week, I'd sit the starters against Detroit. There's not enough difference between the 5 and 6 seeds to be worth going all in to win in week 18, though I would rather not play the Rams.
But if the coaches listened to you, they'd have quit the last 5 weeks after you proclaimed the game was lost.

Just throwing this out for fun, I expect it to get ripped to shreds and I don't think the NFL would consider it:

should the league cap the length of FG attempts? For example, must be no more than say 55yards.
