All Things 2024-25 College Basketball Other Games Thread

In the battle of the two studs we lost, Texas A&M beats Texas Tech by 5.

Payne with 6 pts and 1 rebound
Hawkins with 7 pts and 5 assists

Against the teams with a pulse (St Joe's, Cuse, DePaul and A&M) Hawkins is shooting 28% from the field and 30% from 3.

I watched the last 7/8 minutes and I don't think Payne saw the floor.
Hawkins had 6 turnovers also

Maybe somewhat overlooked since Hawkins is at TT now too, but I'm amused that Kerwin Walton (in his 5th year) was one shot attempt and one rebound away from just doing 18 minutes of cardio today.

Wow. UCLA just banked in a three to take the lead (back) against Oregon in Eugene with less than a second remaining.

And they win. Good for the Bruins.

Wow missed that in the box score. The only thing he did while I watched was hit a 3, and have a turnover. Next to no impact.

Out of all the departures, it looks like Ihnen is the only one that has had any type of success.

Carrington is playing a lot of minutes but he's not shooting any better there than he did here. Given that JOJ hardly got off the bench here during the latter part of last season (I'm still not sure what the story was there), he had to transfer. The transfer to Cal seems to be working out pretty well for him.

But, yeah, it's Ihnen who has really thrived. Apparently, the Liberty coach has unlocked Ihnen's talent in a way that the Minnesota coaches never could.

My first instinct was to think that I'm glad we didn't recruit him but then I realized that he couldn't have done much damage to this team.

NDSU beat Butler 71-68 at Hinkle. Bison led 44-23 at halftime. Jakari White had 27 points, 7 boards and 7 threes for NDSU. Good win for the Summit League.

Been thinking for a bit that presumably we aren't going to get the same amount of teeth gnashing we did last year about how few bids the Big East gets this time around.

I do feel sympathy for our Marquette Gopher friend since they're going to be dodging more seed-deflating landmines in league play than they may have expected.

Michigan is leading John Calipari's Arkansas team 49-45 at the half. Great offenses.

Wild swings on offense with both teams having double digit leads. Michigan made it close at the end, but Arkansas prevailed.

Arkansas State handled #16 Memphis on the road 85-72. 12-36 from 3. They're picked to finish at the top of the Sun Belt Conference. Currently 7-3. They have a really good coach in Bryan Hodgson who could be a guy to keep an eye on

Good game in Lincoln tonight with Nebraska pulling away at the end to beat Indiana. Watching the speed of play by these two teams just makes me cringe at how slow our boys are. Glad we don't play in the B1G until January. Gonna be a really tough January and February.

Both teams have a different look vs one year ago, and still came out just fine including via portal. Myles Rice was a great pick up for Indiana from Washington State, and the Huskers filled some needs and held on to a few key players (!), and have size to make up for the injury to Reink Mast. It's a long B1G season. We'll see who can avoid injuries.

Payne is looking borderline great today against Purdue. Very active and has 9 first half points, 3 boards and a block. He would have made a huge difference here this year.

Yeah, he is having a really good game and probably one of his best of the season because it looks like he has been a bench guy getting like 15 minutes a game and averaging around 6 points on a good team.

On a side note.....Purdue still looks really good but very different without Edey in the middle.

That's generous. They are good. But extremely flawed.

3 players. Rest you have no clue if they will show up in any capacity and even Loyer is a pretty clear #3 option.

Pressure their guards and they cant do anything. Make Smith a shooter(even though he's great at it) because it means he's focusing less on setting up.

I wonder if Payne is still nursing a lower back injury, but today is a good day. That would explain the minutes. Also, he may be a bit more motivated playing a Big10 team.

A & M is putting two on Renn and two on Smith and no one is making them pay for it.

They have a lot of size to play, but if Payne starts playing like he is today he's going to start getting 25 minutes. Payne has to be used to get engaged. Once he feels part of the game, he heats up and becomes a factor on both ends.

Its essentially what Marquette did too. You need specific defenders so not every team can do it.

But its something Purdue really isn't equipped to beat if you can do it.

Don't have the ball handling or complimentary players

Watching Illinois at home leading #1 Tennessee. The place is packed and the crowd is going nuts. It makes me sad that all I have to look forward to is an empty gym against the likes of FDU and Morgan State.

WOW! Gainey for Tennessee goes the length of the court for a game winning layup with a little under 5 seconds.

Great game. Two tough teams.

I was thinking the same thing.....will we ever see the Gophers play a meaningful NC game on national television like this????

UConn vs. Gonzaga is a cool early season matchup.
