All Things 2023 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Can't bitch about pitching (except Thielbar end of year). Have to hit better, get on base, fewer strikeouts. Seems simple but maybe not.

14’s strikeouts last night and 14 strikeouts tonight against not very good Houston pitchers. That’s just not gonna be a recipe to win games.

Over the last two games 28 of 54 outs made by the Twins came via strike out. They had a total of 6 hits.

What a pathetic approach at the plate.

Don’t care how many power arms they run out there with this lineup it doesn’t matter.

Twins are a mediocre organization who have the good fortune of playing in a bad division.

gross. Hitting needs a major upgrade. Two key hitters who don’t strike out could make them dangerous next year if the other pieces stay. Ironic that they traded away their best overallhitter, even if they got an ace from it.

Kepler leaving the bat on his shoulder is Ike Kirk throwing short of the chains on 4th down. Neither approach gives you a shot at a positive outcome.

So is our hitting coach under fire?

Is he coming back?

They need a new approach.

Rocco's bullpen plan actually worked if not for T-bar.
Except that's exactly why rolling the dice on 6 different relievers is flawed. Only one has to have a bad night and you're screwed. Ultimately it didn't matter with this offense. But if we had gotten it tied, the odds were still not in our favor.

52 strikeouts in 4 games. Striking out 48% of all outs. Just incredible.

That's putrid. Half of your outs were on strikeouts.

I never really believed, because of the division we played in, but damn, that is f------- pathetic batting.

It basically worked but didn’t like the approach.

Ryan hasn’t been good but the guy that is supposed to be your #3 gives up one run and gets pulled after two innings.

The brain trust running this organization is way too analytical driven.

Guess the analytics say a lineup that strikes out at an alarming rate is a good thing. 😐

All that said line it up next year and let’s do it again. Sports are the greatest drug ever, outside of maybe cocaine having no first hand knowledge of that. Give me 180 days of interesting baseball in the summer and it’s an ok world.

The elephant in the room is Buxton.

He's supposed to be a reliable, dangerous hitter. One that the Twins desperately need, and he's terrible.

If he's swinging a good bat, the the Twins could have won this series.

Realistically, the Twins need one more high OPS batter and one more high OBP batter to be truly dangerous next year.

They'll need to replace Gray, as well.

With that said, there's a good core for next year.

Can you imagine the strikeout numbers with Buxton and Gallo in the lineup.

We signed buxton to a big contract and are screwed there, I'm afraid.

Solano struck out way too may times for a good hitter. Need a legitimate 1st baseman, a good contact, decent hitting outfielder and a replacement for Gray if he goes. Have Lopez, Ryan, Maeda, Ober for sure. Paddock looked really good when he came back. Is he a starter or reliever? Don't need much to be good next year. Need better hitters and better hitting approach.

Maeda will be gone and Paddock will start. I think Varland might stay in the bullpen.

They need to add another lefty out of the bullpen. Maybe resign Pagan?

Need a first baseman, preferably a right handed one. Maybe make a run at Hoskins?

Here’s a list. Kepler and Polanco have team options that the Twins should pick up.

I would move on from both. Kepler for sure.

The lineup needs to be overhauled. Way too many strike outs. Need a more guys who take good at bats like E. Julien

If you can move Buxton you do that too.

However, doubt there is much of a market for guy making 100 million that can’t hit and doesn’t play in the field.
