Playoff ready Baby
Not RockoSmall ball specialists! Who would have guessed?
I'm going to guess at least one of Keuchel and Ober will be left off the roster for the 1st round, maybe both. Just 3 games, there's no point in having all those starters on the roster. Varland is probably the guy to go to get down to 13 pitchers, then Stewart for sure can take the place of Keuchel or Ober. And then Paddack if they want to leave both Keuchel and Ober off.KC leading the Guards 4-2 in the bottom of the 5th. Magic Number could be down to 1.
read a report that Royce was riding the stationary bike in the clubhouse. he'll have an MRI when the Twins get back to MN.
It will be interesting to see what the Twins do with personnel for the home stand. the Saints (AAA) last game of the year is Sunday. So decisions have to be made on Stewart, Paddack and Alcala.
I expect Stewart up with the Twins soon. Alcala is a long shot ( and I don't trust him to throw strikes). Paddack is interesting. I wouldn't mind seeing him get some work with the Twins out of the pen - maybe for a 2 or 3-inning stint. If he's OK, I'd certainly take him in the pen for the playoffs ahead of Floro.
I think I would trade Stewart and Paddock for Winder and Floro, then as you say, drop 1 or 2 of Varland, Keuchel and Ober for more bats.I'm going to guess at least one of Keuchel and Ober will be left off the roster for the 1st round, maybe both. You only need 3 starters for 1st series and whichever of Ryan or Maeda isn't designated for the 3rd game can pull long relief if needed. Agree with you on Paddock, Stewart. Think Alcala is 2024 at this point.KC leading the Guards 4-2 in the bottom of the 5th. Magic Number could be down to 1.

For pitchers how about Lopez, Sonny, Maeda, Ryan, Duran, Jax, Stewart, Thielbar, Pagan, Paddock and Funderburke(I like having 2 lefties in bullpen). That's 11. Would you add a 12th? Varland, Ober, Winder, Floro, Acala, Kuechel? Kuechel for Funderburke on experience? We have some options. For round 1; I'm thinking 3 starters, 8 bullpen and 15 position players.
I think they'll keep Floro.I think I would trade Stewart and Paddock for Winder and Floro, then as you say, drop 1 or 2 of Varland, Keuchel and Ober for more bats.
You may be right on Varland. I don't think they keep Ober up for 1st playoff series though, especially as they seem to be watching his innings carefully.I get the sense that they like Varland in the pen.
assuming 8 in the pen for the 1st series:
Duran, Jax, Thielbar, Varland, Pagan, Stewart - and for the last two, you could go with Ober and Maeda - or Funderburk if you want a lefty. Maybe Paddack in place of Varland or Ober.
Would that count as a win to break our streak? As crazy as it sounded just a few weeks ago, the Twins are not that far away from the #2 seed and a bye. Even if they don't catch up, hopefully playing one of the AL West teams could give us an advantage as all 3 of those teams might be duking it out until the end for the division championship and bye. Texas and Seattle play each other a bunch down the stretch too.
We definitely have an easier schedule than Houston. As crazy as it sounded just a few weeks ago, the Twins are not that far away from the #2 seed and a bye.
