All Things 2023 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

No clinch for the Twins. Guardians beat the Orioles 5-2. Tigers currently up 2-0 on the A's in the 4th inning.

FWIW - the O's lose and Tampa Bay beat the Angels 5-4.
Tampa now a game-and-a-half behind the O's for the AL East.

Houston, TX and Seattle all off tonight.

so, even if the Twins do clinch tonight, I would bet that they wait to celebrate until after Friday night's game in front of the home fans.

regardless - A-holes on the internet will criticize them for celebrating. I predict the following response: "they have no right to celebrate anything until they win a playoff game......"

bumping my own post to proclaim that I was right. On Skor North, Judd Zulgad said the Twins should not hold any celebration until they (quoting) "win a playoff series." (unquote) He also said the Twins should wear T-shirts saying "We ain't done nothing yet."

Tigers stayed alive tonight also. So the Twins won’t have the division clinched at the end of Friday’s game unless they win, as Detroit’s game will still be in process.

Clinch it at home by winning - I’m sure that’s how the players want to do it and celebrate with the fans - should be amazing.

If I was a betting man, I’d bet that we pound them tonight and Pablo hits the over on Ks!

Such a terrible take by him. So dumb.

I used to listen to Mackey and Judd but I just can't take it any more. they have gone on this self-important kick where they claim they are "keeping people accountable." which basically translates to criticizing everyone and acting as if they are the only ones who know what each team should be doing. Hey - everyone has the right to an opinion, but they have this level of arrogance about them that just turns me off. they are less-talented versions of Reusse.

I do listen to the episodes where Doogie is on - mostly for the amusement value and because Doogie sometimes does have a few nuggets of actual information.

I feel that take is half tongue in cheek. The Twins deserve to wear the 0-18 as an organization. But most of these players played in zero of those games. Expecting them not to celebrate the same way every other team would is dumb, obviously.

Without looking it up, which members of the current roster were on the 2020 play-off team? I think only Polanco, Kepler, Maeda, Kiriloff played his first ever game in the play-offs and possibly Theilbar. That's it. Jeffers played briefly but was on the IL at the end as was Buxton.

Buxton did play in the 2020 WC round.

box scores from both games show Jeffers playing.

position players were Polanco, Kepler, Buxton, Jeffers and Kirilloff.
pitchers were Maeda and Thielbar.

Hmm. I think I mixed up Jeffers and Brent Rooker. I remembered him playing briefly, being good and then breaking a bone.

Twins better win tonight. chances are they not playing tomorrow or Sunday.

There's a chance the rain holds off until after the game tomorrow, but there should be enough breaks to finish it even if there is a delay for a bit.

They should be mostly fine on Sunday, with rain being widely scattered and light.

Acuna became just the 5th member of the 40-40 club, surprised me as I thought there were more members. Here are some factoids -

  • Acuña, who leads the majors with 68 steals, joins José Canseco (1988), Barry Bonds (1996), Alex Rodriguez (1998) and Alfonso Soriano (2006) in accomplishing the feat. None of the others had more than 46 stolen bases, however.
  • Last month, the 25-year-old became the first player in MLB history with 30 home runs and 60 steals. The MVP candidate and four-time All-Star previously neared the 40-40 mark in 2019, when he had a career-high 41 home runs along with 37 steals.

This makes me think Royce has a 2% chance of playing in the wild card round.

Strain is a tear. But i know what he meant
Here is more specific information regarding his injury from the MLB App-

The Twins announced that Lewis’ hamstring strain is on the more significant side of a Grade 1 strain, which is considered the least severe of the three grades. They will have a very tight timeline to evaluate him in the 11 days that remain before they make a last-minute decision as they lock in their roster for a potential American League Wild Card Series on the morning of Oct. 3.

Yout thoughts on this from Ted.

The 🤣 is @Ted. He posts on Twitter, so that doesn’t make him an expert on anything IMO; he lost me as being any credible type of source, when he was trumpeting Chris Williams as the panacea for the earlier season offensive woes.

Buck has had multiple injuries/setbacks since he’s gone to St. Paul for his rehab. You can’t get your timing down by constantly starting and stopping.

His body isn’t right at this point - he needs R & R. I have a better chance of suiting up than Buck does at this point. On the injury report, they list him now as possible for 2023; polite way of communicating the dat opera songstress has song.

Additionally, we haven’t needed his bat to become one of the better offensives in the second half either.
