All Things 2023 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Outside of Buxton tho. Cant complain about that 3 innings worth of Abs. Worked Gilbert into the ground. Lot of great pitches taken and fouled off.

In my eyes(only saw one brief replay) that ump boned AK out of a double that could have had the inning much bigger.

Kepler lead off doubles that dont score are a loss all around.

No runs and Rocco no gives him another week of starts with full immunity.

Innings like this are why Sonny doesn’t go longer in games. You can walk the 8 hitter after getting ahead 0-2.

What a disaster of his own making. You can’t be putting on the bottom of the order.

Of course the offense could score more then two runs too.

Sonny imploding, probably lost the game right here with lack of control.

What a fucking meltdown by Sonny. This dude just inexplicably loses control at any moment.

Absolutely CRUISING through 4 1/3 innings. Great pitch count. We have a shot bullpen. Dream scenario.

He hangs a cuveball to Hernandez. Then loses all focus

0-2 on France who is 0/18 and has taken 4 awful swings. 4 straight balls,

Beans the #8 hitter on a spiked curveball

0-2 on the #9 hitter who is so bad that he bunted twice his 1st AB with no one on and 1 out. Hangs a curveball for RBI single

Falls behind 2-0 and gets Crawford out on a cookie that he pops out.

1-2 on Julio. 3 straight balls and a walk.

0-2 on Kelenic hangs another for a bloop single and 2 runs

Ober was our last good start. Its been 6 games since then because we pushed Ober waaaaaay back(innings?).

Pablo and Sonny especially with gutless performances.

Maybe stop throwing pitches in the dirt every time you're ahead in the count.
Just a thought.

Dont talk up this offense too soon. I jinxed us. Since the 3rd inning.

Kepler lead off double in 4th. Next 3 guys not only dont advance and score him, but go down on 6 pitches.

5th inning Julien and AK with pro ABs(AGAIN). The vets including buxton, trash.

Kepler and Jeffers with feeble ABs.

Ok reverse Jinx

Gallo bomb now. See Rocco??? He hits lefties efficiently........Kepler does not.

Sonny has this inning^^

Rocco logic. Send him back out there.

Lead off 4 pitch walk. 2 out walk and wild pitch to score a run. No hits.

This is why we have been 2 game under .500 to 2 games above .500 for a month straight.

Gutless veterans and negligently incompetent manager/GMs.

This is going to be decided last wk of September, isn't it.

Julien Ks on a 8 pitch AB. Brash makes a beautiful pitch on the inner black thats unhittable.

Buxton Ks(again) on 3 pitches lol

Guess which one will lose ABs because of 1 out.

Solano works a walk to load the bases. Taking 3 straight balls.

Kepler first pitch weak 4 hopper to 2nd.
'
Keep playing the same trash!!! There isnt data out there that shows they suck or anything!!!!

Max Kepler garbage time 3 run bomb is not ideal for the fans of the youth movement.

Glad to see Buxton had a strong game 0-5 with 3k’s. Hey at least his defense can help the team.

This refusal to bat him lower in the lineup is amazing. Of the 27 outs you get each night he is guaranteed to make 4 or them so you are playing with only 23 outs every night.

Twins owe Sano an apology.

Here's the sobering thought, the Twins with the #1 starting pitching staff were only able to tread water at the .500 mark.

If the starters regress to the mean post All Star break then even getting to the 81-82 win total will be rather difficult with the current offensive production (or lack thereof).

Starters are definitely doing that. Lets see what Ober does tonight. Im guessing because of innings(even though hes still not very high) Ober has been skipped by everyone.

Since Obers domination of Orioles we have had 6 straight bad-terrible starts.

But no matter how much I keep harping on it, its true. The lineup has an ability to still progress to the mean. That just requires playing Julien and Kirilloff every day and batting them in the top 4. And getting Buxton out of the damn linuep for a massive mental and physical reset.

Correa while still far from MVP tear is hitting well since moving to leadoff. The two young studs fit beautifully behind him. But we need 1 more bat to emerge. And if that bat is Polanco soon. Time to find a way to make it so that Polanco and Julien can both play.

When Polanco is ready, which really should be today, Buxton needs to either go on the IL or play CF and hit 8th for a while.

DH Julien. Its laughably lopsided. As this tweet states, D actually hurts Juliens war. So he would be shitting on Buxton even more if he was also DH only.

OPS+ Update
Arraez:147
Julien:146

Keep It Simple Stupid. Play the talent.

on leaving Gray out there:

with Stewart and Thielbar not available in the bullpen, there aren't a lot of relievers that Rocco trusts.

Bullpen right now:
Duran
Jax
Moran
Balazovic
Pagan
Ortega
Lopez
Sands

put Stewart and Thielbar in the mix and it looks better. I had hopes for Winder, but he's got a 5.04 ERA in AAA right now.

A presumably cheap bat to target: Eddie Escobar. Currently with LAA. Already traded once this year. Having a down year so far. Shouldn't cost much. Maybe Kepler even up or a minor prospect. Can hold down 3B until Lewis comes back and/or they can reconsider Lewis in CF.

No chance.

If we try to get a infielder it needs to be a Goldy/Arenado type.

Right now the focus should be Polancos return and who plays where. Do Polo or Julien try 3B? Does Julien go to 1B and AK OF. Does JUlien do OF?

Since Julien is bad defensively regardless but has experience at all spots do we just rotate him.

We dont need another bench player disquised as a starter. Our offense would stay woooooooof

THis is just a weirdly coached/managed team.

No Buxton.

Max you want to bat clean up? Get your ass in CF. Or put Gallo there.

Why is Wallner DH? With no Buxton we can utlize Julien there. Wallner to the OF. Castro and Farmer take the two infield spots.

Just wild. Does Kepler have Gruden type emails on everyone?

Kepler has been one of their better hitters over the last month.

Kepler has been one of their better hitters over the last month.

He entered yesterday with a .362 OPS since he returned from the IL.

He goes on little 3 games benders with hits that keep awarding him playing time. And substantial sample size taken into account......no he has not been good. He should be a 4th outfielder at best.

Hell even yesterday. Bases loaded 2 outs down 2, first pitch weak ground out. The garbge time 3 run homer down 4 with 1 out left in the game makes him look "better". But the stats are there.

And as Ive mentioned like 8 times since Sunday. Him being our most frequently lefty bat to start vs lefties is statistically hilarious.
