All Things 2023-2024 Minnesota Timberwolves In-Season Thread

Maybe it's Embiid or something, but I despise the Sixers.

I'd love to see us crush them. tough overtime game for them last night, and they had to fly all the way from Philly to get here tonight.
Oh it's Embiid.

Last year! It's simply incredible.

Seems like often the replay shows that the ref has gotten the call wrong. Too often.

Definitely think it would help if refs were willing to move during a possession to improve their point of view. Not sure if the potted plant officiating technique is the best.

Wolves beat 76ers 112-99. They outscored them 3 of the 4 quarters but a terrible 2nd Quarter made the game much closer than it should have been. Why? Because the Wolves again had a Quarter when they just couldn't shoot.

Some of the excitement around Wednesday night's wire-to-wire 112-99 Timberwolves victory over the 76ers disappeared during the afternoon, when Philadelphia declared reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid out because of hip soreness.

But that just presented an opportunity for the Wolves, one they took advantage of to improve their perfect home record this season to 7-0 and remain in first place in the Western Conference.

The night wasn't perfect. The Wolves (11-3) overcame some sluggishness in the second quarter, when they almost gave up all of a 19-point lead. But they got their act together in the second half to turn the game into a rout.

Anthony Edwards made sure the Embiid-less 76ers (10-5) didn't sniff out an upset. He scored 31
points, 13 in the third quarter. Karl-Anthony Towns added 23 points, while Nickeil Alexander-Walker hounded budding 76ers standout Tyrese Maxey. Maxey scored 16 points on 7-for-19 shooting..

I will not get too excited about this team.
I will not get too excited about this team.
I will not get too excited about this team.

But damn, it's hard not to right now.

Embiid waz afraid to suit up just like jimmy’s was. Everybody is ducking the wolves.

Not gonna come out and say that but after the hideous history of the Wolves, and with the need to "rest" players, hard to believe at least some of the stars aren't thinking:

"Sit me tomorrow. I ain't gonna lose to the Wolves!" :drink:

Because finchy keeps starting the 2md quarter without both Kat and ant on the floor

There is no reason why 1 of those shouldnt always be on the court

Jaylan Nowell is back in the NBA.

Amid several significant injuries, the Memphis Grizzlies are signing guards Shaquille Harrison and Jaylen Nowell to 10-day hardship exceptions, sources told ESPN on Thursday.

The NBA awarded the Grizzlies the exceptions with five players expected to be out two-plus weeks, sources said. All-NBA guard Ja Morant continues to serve his 25-game league suspension..

Nowell, 24, played parts of four seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves before joining the Sacramento Kings' G League affiliate in Stockton this season.

That’s gonna sting for the in season tournament chances. They had the best record in the nba for 5 hours, I say hang a banner.

Timberwolves are down in Memphis for a 5:00 game against the Grizzlies.

Chris Hines on how the Wolves developed their defense.

"We just did things over and over again until we felt right about what we were doing," Finch said. "Made a few tweaks, and it looked completely different. From that moment on, it's just been putting in practice and refining it as we went."

Since then, there have been few days Finch has been displeased with the defense.

The Timberwolves have started the season 11-4 because of their defense, which had the No. 1 efficiency in the league until Friday's loss to Sacramento. When they acquired three-time defensive player of the year Rudy Gobert, all involved from the team to the fans had hopes the Wolves could be an elite defensive team. That never quite panned out in Gobert's first season, although the Wolves did rank a respectable 10th in efficiency.

This season, the Wolves' defensive rating, which is the number of points given up per 100 possessions, is 107.3, third best in the league through Friday. Opponents are shooting 43.5% against them (second lowest in the NBA), and the Wolves have an NBA-leading plus-3.1 differential in field-goal shooting.

The Wolves defense has been largely a collaboration among Gobert, Finch and assistant coach Elston Turner, who oversees that end of the floor.

"[Gobert] wears Elston out a lot," Finch said with a laugh.

But Turner insists: "He's great to coach. … He takes constructive criticism great, and he's fun to coach."

After a year of working together, the three have become familiar with what works and what doesn't work for each other, and they asked one another to come out of their comfort zones.

"I told them before this season, we could be the top defense this year," Gobert said. "Keep trusting me, and I'm trusting you too."..

sounds like Memphis is missing half its roster.

during the course of the season, this stuff generally evens out. but early on, the Wolves are catching quite a few teams when the other team has players sitting for rest or injuries.

this is the type of game they would lose in previous years. can't let that happen if they're serious about making a run this time.

Not making the play in tourney is the best ever.

We get close to a week off, McDaniels is healing while we aren't playing. Ant could use a break. It's the best thing ever.

Memphis is not only 3-12 but they've yet to win at home.

The Ja Morant Curse continues. His suspension is for the first 25 games.

Wolves 90 Grizzlies 66 after 3 Quarters.

Gobert, Towns and Reid all have 4 fouls going into the 4th.

Wolves win 119 to 97. We had the Buffalo/Philly game on one TV and this game on Bally's

Memphis and the Eagles have the same philosophy. Commit fouls all the time because the Refs won't call them all. The Eagles are more successful with it.

Wolves next host the 11-5 Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night.

Chet gonna be the ROY. I’d take the over on his numbers.

The NBA is scheduling 2 games during the QF & SF period for the 22 teams that didn't make it to the final 8 to give them all 82 games. Also, the 2 QF losers from each conference will play each other to make their 82nd game.

thanks as I had no clue on that.

This tournament is kind of a mystery.

Do you get to hang a banner if you win it all? That's my question.

I think it's safe to assume the Wolves will win this weird tournament and then get bounced in the first round of the real playoffs, because, well, Minnesota...

Howl Wolves!!

If they do it will be taken down in the future due to some investigation into the team drinking energy drinks they shouldn't have.

So Wolves have to win by 21 or more

Warriors need to beat Kings by 12. So if Warriors beat Kings by 2, Wolves need to beat OKC by 31
