Every NFL team has a budget. One curious theory as to why the Vikings on Thursday night traded their No. 12 pick in the first round of the draft for the No. 32 pick is to save money.

One estimate is that the Vikings owe fired coach Mike Zimmer and general manager Rick Spielman a total of nearly $20 million over the next two years.

The signing bonus for the No. 12 pick, wide receiver Jameson Williams from Alabama taken by Detroit, will be in the $10 million range. The signing bonus for Lewis Cine, the safety from Georgia the Vikings chose at No. 32, will be about $5.5 million

Overall I thought the Vikings had a solid draft. They should have kept their 2nd round pick in the trade with the Lions, but that's my only real gripe with any of the trades after the dust settled. I wasn't as high on Jameson Williams as everyone else was, so I'm not mad they didn't stick and pick him.

Cine and Booth are really good picks. So is Asamoah. I thought Ingram and Evans were reaches, but Evans is the guy Kwesi placed a ton of value on and 'watched in the dark'. So we'll see.

I love the Otomewo pick, not only because he was a Gopher, but he has the size and athleticism that's perfect for a 3-4 DE and they still have a hole there. I like the Chandler pick too but RB is probably our deepest position.

I'm not mad that they passed on the QBs in this draft. I'm sure they'll take one next year in a better class. I would have liked to see them take a TE earlier, right now we have nothing beyond Irv Smith coming off of injury. It's possible though that we're not going to use the TE as much as we have in the past with this offense.

Do they have any desire and/or $$$ left to sign any of the UFA's?

Barr? Everson? Beebe?
 

on the TE position - the Vikes did sign a FA TE named Mundt from the Rams, and they still have Ellefson from NDSU.

I could see KOC using Smith as a hybrid TE/WR at times. (assuming he's healthy).

It's funny how the grades are all over the map. As noted, S.I. gave the Vikes a D-, but Mel Kiper gave them a B-. Some guy gave them an A-, but apparently the same guy gave grades of A or A- to over 20 teams, so not a hard grader.

I was listening to Mackey and Judd on Friday, and they were going insane - especially Judd. When the Vikes traded down to help the Packers get a WR, I thought Judd was going to march down to TCO and try to have Kwesi impeached on the spot.
 



The podcast/radio personalities all need to have their own niche of schtick, on who they're trying to appeal to.

Mackey/Judd, it's the realistic guys who know in their hearts that the Vikings are cursed and really do believe there may be only one shot in their lives to see them in a Super Bowl. Any thing that possible goes wrong, is amplified and condemned to the max.

On the other hand, there are the positive guys. I guess PA?

Etc.

They don’t have much money to play around with, but I bet they sign some more cheap vets. However, I doubt they re-sign any of the 3 you mentioned. Barr has big injury concerns, Ev has his ongoing mental health issues, and they can do better than Beebe at WR5/6. Just my read on it though. Maybe they try to sign JC Tretter with a couple void years tacked on, but I think that is a long shot.

Zero chance on Griffin. Not sure how Barr fits a 3-4. Tretter would be worth a gamble.
 

PA barely spoke of the Vikings draft. He had Kwesi on and then acted as tho it is early to judge.
 


No surprise in the slightest, Vikings won't exercise Bradbury's 5th year option.

Any chance an OL on the roster currently could convert? Wyatt Davis? Or are they thinking just draft a center in 2023?

They did so well with Elflein and Bradbury .....

I can't get the image of Bradbury getting continually bull-rushed on his backside out of my head. I stand by the fact that constructing a roster based on coaching personnel is ridiculous. Kubiak was old and unlikely to stay here long, so drafting an OL that "fits his scheme" was doomed to fail. Just go get the best players you can and figure out how to best use them.
 

I've seen speculation that maybe the Guard they drafted in the 2nd round could possibly move to Center. Either that, or the guy they picked up in free agency who went to MN State-Mankato. (Reed?)

Agreed. I get trying to grow the brand, but it’s not even like the UK has a huge market for the NFL. The next biggest markets after the U.S. that continue to grow is easily Mexico and Brazil, so I can understand having a game or two in Mexico (As long as they have fixed the field at Estadio Azteca). I don’t get having 3 games in England and one in Germany. It doesn’t seem close to worth the logistical headache.

The London/Munich games open up another TV window, which is early morning in the US creating a quadruple-header. Also they are in prime time (or close) in other areas around the globe.

I just think it's a slap in the face to the fans. Maybe not as big of a deal now that there's 17 games but prior to last year there were only 8 home games per team. Taking away 1 home game is like taking away over 10 home games in baseball.
