All Things 2022 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

Looking to 2023 if there was any consolation for the Lions that the Rams lost to Seattle and dashed their playoff hopes, it improved their draft position. They own the Rams 1 Rounder (6th overall) as well as their own pick (18th overall).

They also have two 2nd Round picks (Vikings & own) so they will have a draft ammo of 4 slots in the top 64 to improve their defense.

I stand by my assertion that Detroit is the favorite to win the NFC North in 2023. Not overwhelming, but I think they are on the right path.

I don't know what to make of the Bears. They own the top pick and have over $100 million in salary cap space. Who knows what that turns into...
the best teams in the NFL always seem to be built on draft picks. I'm not sure signing a bunch of free agents who just got fat on the big contract is the way to go. This isnt baseball, or even basketball. Spending big on FA provides no guarantees

My money is on Dallas beating Philly, but we'll see how that goes. Dangerous to bet on Dak Prescott, or the Cowboys in general, in the postseason.
I wouldn't discount Tampa beating Dallas. The Cowboys were dreadful yesterday against the Commandos, have lost already this year to the Bucs and do not play well on grass (as Jason Garrett pointed out last night).

I agree, but there literally is nowhere to go but up from being the worst team in the NFL. The smart play with the money would be to spread it around and build depth.

Totally agree. Go with youth, high upside guys that wont kill their cap. Players coming off their rookie contract. I dont have a great example, but Mattison comes to mind. (I dont like paying anything for RBs)

Did you have your championship this weekend? That would suck with so many players sitting out.

A buddy of mine’s kid joined our league last year. He finished 2nd last year and won it all this year. In 2 years he’s won more money in the league than I have in the last 10 years. Oh, and he’s in 6th grade.
Yeah, our playoffs were the last 4 weeks. Worked out well for me. I did have quite a few starters sitting this weekend, but was able to pick up the pieces I needed from free agency. Jaguars D really helped me out the last 2 weeks.

Speaking of which, I assume and hope like hell that Cook is full strength for the Giants?

Dumb as hell to even play him.

he also mentioned that they are 1-4 on grass this year; he says the grass significantly slows them down.

Oh man, PA is beginning the ARodg isn’t gonna play for the Pack statement again! It’ll go like this everyday, 5 days a week for 7 months.

They're on the right path, but I'm still not sold on Jared Goff. They strike me as a candidate to take a step back or at least plateau around 9-10 wins next year. The Vikings will almost certainly take a step back record-wise as well, so 10-7 might win the division.

He came back in after the injury so I assume so. But I agree, Cousins, Jefferson and Cook really shouldn't have played yesterday. But I get they didn't want last week's game to linger for 2 weeks and the new O-line needed some time together with the 1st team offense. At least Cook got a fumble out of his system. Maybe he can make it through the play-offs without one now.

It's tough to handicap, based on what happens in the Draft and Free Agency. I am giving the edge to the Lions based on something that is a complete unknown, as far as what they do with the picks they have accumulated. By "edge" I would give the Lions a 35% chance to win the North, the Vikes about 30%, same as the Packers. By no means do I think Detroit taking over is a lay-up.

Comparing Goff to Cousins I think is a virtual draw. These rankings support that. Both are functional.

Additionally, one has been to a SB. The other has not.

hes going to be counting money for a long time - recently extended to 2027
What horrible ownership, that and giving Murray his contract when he’s not Siskel or Ebert - how do you not figure this out before you draft him?

Kliff is a college coach ala Fleck

With all of the false starts, cadence issues, changing of plays with a new center....I think they wanted to square that away.

It seemed like they did.

Great call. Will @Ogee Ogilthorpe be a tour guide?

Good for Geno - long way from his Jets days - funny that the #20 - Darnold and #5 Smith are on the list.

Should the Vikes look to find a QB special in the discount aisle - Carr or Wilson? I was lobbying for them to get Darnold when his time with the Jets was up.

Arizona is just a terrible job right now, whether it's the new GM or HC; an owner that doesn't historically spend a ton of money, and a malcontent, juvenile delinquent at QB with a contract that means you're tied to him for years.

Go after a big fish, long-term hire at GM but for HC, you might as well hire a lame duck HC that you know you will likely be replacing after 1-2 seasons anyway. It's THAT bad of a situation.

have to treat Murray like a sunk cost. Just means you have less money to spend. Hes not taking a team to be a perennial playoff team

The only real upside of this season/situation for the Cardinals is that it likely results in them moving on from Keim as GM. He just had/has to go. He survived this long somehow, who knows; I'm sure having brought in Bruce Arians and Carson Palmer and having a good little run there likely extended his job security but the Cardinals have drafted absolutely horrendously during most of his tenure.

I hope Keim is doing alright, sounds like he's taking care of his own personal demons with alcohol (from everything we know) and I hope that goes well but by all accounts they are moving on at General Manager along with dumping KK.

I watched a bit of the team for the first time, hoping they would pull of the miracle of beating the 49ers. A smart team would trade for Isiah Simmons; that kid was everywhere

Geno and Tua ahead of Justin Herbert is laughable.
