All Things 2022 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Someone get a bleeping hit with men on base. You can’t go into yankee stadium and think you are gonna win 2-1. This loss is entirely on the offense that so often just fails to show up. Up to 10% of games that have been shutout after the white Sox game on Saturday.

4 games over .500. Will likely be .500 or below by week's end. Their record since late May is actually worse than the 2021 Twins were from late May onward. But throw a parade if you want.

Thanks! Enjoy 😉

Hrbek redux!
A history lesson to anyone under the age of 50:

During the 1981 season, Hrbek in his first MLB game hit a HR off George Frazier (future Cub-Twin/bag of manure) at Yankee Stadium.

Hopefully it works out well for another Twin Cities kid this evening in the Bronx. After that game Hrbie was a Twins mainstay for over a decade.

Txs for filling in the details and IIRC, Kent was yanked all the way from the Class A level, Visalia (sp) - onions the size of boulders.

That HR broke a tie with the Yankees (2-2 in the 12th & was the game winner).

Enjoy the replay and call from the incomparable Mel Allen (this Was “How bout that shoutout” in the highlight package This Week in Baseball ).

I get it. but this also ties in with the injuries.

Twins' lineup right now has 3 guys you want at the plate: Arraez, Correa and Miranda. maybe 4 with Urshela.

everyone else is "cross your fingers and hope."

that is not a winning formula - especially when the starting pitching is shaky, to say the best.

Seeing George Frazier jogged a memory of mine.

Later during that same 1981 Season, Frazier was tagged with 3 Losses in the World Series as the Yankees fell to the Dodgers. That tied a record with Lefty Williams of the 1919 Chicago White Sox. One major difference was that Williams was later presumed to be intentionally trying to lose, having been implicated in the Black Sox scandal.

Also back in 1919 it was Best of 9.

As for Hrbek, that video it almost looks like an imposter. For one, he's wearing jersey #26 instead of #14 which was eventually retired by the Twins. Also, he looks downright skinny. Major League per diem must have treated Kent well.

Did you see the bottom 5 of the Yankees line-up yesterday? It was not exactly a murderers row. What team in baseball besides the dodgers, Astros, and Padres has a line up from top to bottom that scares you ever batter?

Trevino - 257
Cabrera - 190
IKF - 265
Locastro - 162
Gonzalez - 205

Poor George - a bad version of RD🤣

That was a great series 😃.

Kent was a svelte sultan of swat at the tender age of 21 in his debut. He also hit the first homer in the Dome against the Phillies in an exhibition game, that was advertised to heck and back with Rose’s mug on it.

Hopefully these find memories will empower the lads to split the series And go on to win the division.

Cue the music -

FWIW - saw this online.

According to Baseball America, the Twins' minor-league teams have an overall winning % of .528.

That is 7th best in baseball. for comparison, last year the Twins' minor-league system finished in 9th place with a winning % of .523.

and - the Twins' minor-league teams have allowed fewer runs than any other organization. that seems to suggest some organizational pitching depth. we'll see if that can somehow, someday translate to the major-league team.......and if they can somehow keep their pitchers healthy.

I was at that Phillies/Twins exhibition game at the Dome Opener with my dad and brother as a youngster.

Years later, I think circa 1998 I was in Vegas and walking through the mall at Ceasar's Palace and Rose was doing an autograph signing. I went in and told him I was at the game at the HHH Metrodome.

Without skipping a beat he remarked, "Yeah, I got the first base hit there!"

Great follow up and u thought he did.
The Hit King -always thought he needed a better nickname, like Hit god
how much was he charging for the autograph?

Game is postponed today - even the 🦭 were complaining about the rain When I saw the floating by in Times Square today.

Double Dip tomorrow, with Game 1 first pitch at 300 EDT - second game is half hour after the first. Look forward to copious analysis on tomorrow’s efforts as I’ll be going to the US Open for the afternoon session.

I don't recall the exact price, I think it was like $25 back then with the fee elevated for non-flats (bats, balls, jersey's, hats etc.) I was on a good run at the tables and book, so whatever it was...I paid it. Must have been somewhat reasonable.

Found this on the google, a write up on that 1982 game. It does mention Rose with the 1st base hit and Hrbek with the first Home Run.

I did remember the weather was crappy outside, did not know game time temp was 19 degrees. Uffda.

Time of game was 1 hr 57 minutes. Very unlike games currently.

This increases our odds of winning one game at least since most DH's split. We're 1-13 against the NYY, Astros and Dodgers. We can make it to 2-15!

I’m digging your positive vibes, my man!

I was at that game as well. Only time I saw Rose play.

Likewise, it wound up being the only time I saw Rose play. I did see him while he was Player/Manager against the Cubs in Wrigley in 1986, though he benched himself.

He did come out to the mound for a pitching change.

Saw Rose signing autographs at a place in Caesars Forum Shops. Saw him betting on College Football games at the Monte Carlo Sportsbook early one Saturday morning on the same trip. He bet a lot of games but did not bet on the Gophers.

So yeah, saw Rose play too.

Edit: Knew that he didn't bet on the Gophers because one of the 2 guys I was with asked him and Rose laughed, shook his head and said "No". :)

Evidently he had action on that Reds/Cubs game I saw at Wrigley as well.

Big test for the twins today. Scored 2 in the first can they add on and get to 5 runs for the game? They have too often failed to add on runs after scoring in the first.

And just like that down the shitter on a 1-2 pitch. You could have just left Louie in and let him give up the homer. You pull him at the first sight of any trouble.

80 bleeping pitches in 5.1 innings and he struck out 7. Just let him keep going especially when you have to play again tonight.
