Shakopee - Signature win over EP. When this team hears the drums start beating it is lights out and opponents better hang on; however, they give up a lot of penalties on procedural stuff and the emotions run both ways. If healthy, and the drum beat starts, they could challenge EP again. If those hurt are out and EP scores early...they've had a good run.
East Ridge - The "Maroon" mantra doesn't stick to this team. Very athletic across the board and a team again that plays with emotion. They will need to control the ball more agains MG and not trade quick possessions...somehow.
Centennial - Ultra tough, ultra controlling and always a team that plays better as the season goes on. They match opponents regardless of who they are playing. They will need 10 minute drives and then force 3 and outs so Rosemount can't figure out how to attack them. They will enjoy the punch in the face contest...but as anyone from St. Paul knows...so does anyone Irish.
Lakeville South - The cougars have figured out they don't have the horses they did last year and that is leading to success late in the season. They still have great athletes and a smart coach, just not in all the spots on offense. If Stillwater cannot stop the T then this game may be over, because South's defensive unit is just as good as last year if not better.
Stillwater - Incredible group of athletes across the board. Still can't figure out how the EP game got away from them like it did; however, their coach used it to improve his team and they are better for it. The games they have to win now will take all the ponies can play to and adjust to. They have the players and the coach to do it.
Eden Prairie - The MOST tested team, the best post-season team, and a nightmare for any coaching staff to face...a second time. The eagles drew the mildest quartile, but need to beat the team that beat them to get to the show. And then might have to do it again in the first round. Mike Grant really enjoys these types of challenges and his players always respond to them.
Maple Grove - The team that is the most complete package. Top to bottom, and another team with a phenomenal coaching staff. The diversity of their offense will cause their next two opponents fits and that is why they could blow past them. The ONLY question is if they get to the championship their defensive front could face an opponent that is in a higher weight class and just as athletic.
Rosemount - It's obvious, a bunch of young men who really love to play football. It is hard to figure out who the starters are. They send a #2 in at anything from QB to OL to LB and the kid lights it up. A team that would play all night long whether up or down after 4. Good coach that has not won a state championship. We will find out if that is an asset or a liability to a group of players every coach on this page would love to have.

Lakeville South - If an opponent is not able to stop the T, then the Cougars will win. LS has learned some diversity in their offense this season. They have done this to prepare for EP or Rsmt, we will see if they need it with MG. Defensively they are a very strong team and have played good teams but not the most physical teams in the playoffs. MG will be the ultimate test for the defense. Strange statement, but it might actually benefit the Cougars if MG was kind-of good at stopping the T so that drives would last longer. Trading scores with MG may not be the best strategy, but REALLY fun to watch if you like offense.
Maple Grove - The athletes on this team are taking play to another level. Coach Lombardi has been putting the time in already to stop the T I'm sure. Have some of the more athletic players been asked to play a larger role both ways? I don't know the answer, but that might be the only solution. It will take everything the Crimson have to stop LS. Completely respect this team, and maybe they had an average night in cold conditions, but honestly I did think that their game would have the highest margin of victory out of the quarter-finals. Get them in the BANK and we will find out for sure.
Eden Prairie - As stated before, the MOST tested team, the best post-season team, and a nightmare for any coaching staff to face...a second time. The eagles drew the mildest quartile which means they should be healthy, they beat one of the teams that beat them and now have a chance to beat the other. Mike Grant loves this challenge and his players always respond to him, again as stated. The Eagles will have an exceptional game plan and the players will be prepared. It will be interesting to see which direct Coach Grant decides to go with the game plan; will he plan a pinpoint and precision plan offensively (for sure some trick plays), will he just keep the punch in the face contest going, or a combination?
Rosemount - Completely shocked by the outcome of the Centennial game. Some of the players have to be part machine. Thought they just loved to play, but now wondering what the talk is in the locker room? Are the Irish angry because they were not ranked at the beginning of the year? Do the players take it personally when sports reporters and media pick against them? There has to be something I am missing. 1 pass...1 PASS! AND for a score!?!? Back-up running back scored the 2nd touchdown and played knockout offense on two tough linebackers...as a back-up. I'm intrigued.

MG vs. LS - My prediction is a high scoring game that will be fun to watch. We will see highly athletic players asked to play a larger role, which is nothing new at this stage of the season.
EP vs. RSMT - Low scoring game. The team that takes advantage of an opponent's mistake will win. The mistake could be a turnover, but it could also be a coaching misstep. The winner of this game will benefit from TWO weeks off. These teams will play like they have burned the ships and there is no way home. The strongest statement I will make is this; Those who love high school football have two state championship games to watch this year. Based on head-to-head and common opponents this is the championship game. But then I get to watch another one and if I am surprised...IT'S THAT MUCH BETTER!

P.S. Congratulations to all the boys of fall, and thank you for playing your hearts out (for no money) and allowing us the honor of watching you. You all can't be champions, but I hope you all had championship moments that you will remember.
Thank you to all the referees and support personnel that allow these boys to play. You have chosen to put yourself into a tough situation and you do it for kids. May God bless you.
I don't believe I have picked anyone to win, just offered my observations.
