All things 2021 MN state high school tournament

Yeah the HS team have three sets of brothers, Carlsons, Pattens, and another one I’m forgetting (Van or von something). Also had a D2 guard who graduated the same year as Jon that was their stud. It was crazy.
Since the 4-class split, the 2003 Big Green Machine from Litchfield is one of the few small-school teams that could have won a one-class tournament.

If the Gophers can't keep this type of player from skipping town, let's just shut er down. We can build a solid foundation on these top 200 local kids.
Agree with your general point going forward that we can build a foundation around this type of local player. In this particular case, the kid's Dad grew up in Lafayette, graduated from Purdue and has raised his son to be a Purdue fan. They are definitely the favorite from what I hear.

All 4 crystal balls on 247 are for purdue

The 1999-2000 team was the better litchfield team. I think they could have beat Minneapolis Henry in the finals in an one class system.

The Holloman kid from Cretin is really fun to watch. Quick as a cat and a really strong defensive player. Outside shot is a little iffy, but otherwise a really solid player. Supposedly the Gophers set up a Zoom with Fleck and Johnson both talking to Holloman to let him know they would take him for football or basketball.

I also like the Plum kid for Cretin. Seems to really have a nose for the ball as a rebounder and jumps well, so I think he plays a little higher than his listed height of 6'4".

I played against both groups in AAU and traveling, I think the Litchfield team was the second best team in the state. I think they would have had trouble with Henry's guards. I believe all 5 of their starters went on to play college basketball and their sixth man (McKenzie) went on to play at Oklahoma and the U.

Travis - Arkansas - Little Rock
Pettis - Fresno St.
Knight - MTSU?
PF - I can't remember his name but I thinkhe played college ball.
Gilbert - Oklahoma

They were a real problem. Tons of talent and a great coach. I'll give you this though, MOST years that Litchfield team could have competed.

The one intangible that Litchfield team had was how well they played together. Their press was outstanding. When we played, it felt like when they were trying, we could only get past half court 50% of the time. The 3 sets of brothers probably played together all their lives and it showed. Everyone knew their role, knew exactly where they had to be and when, fundamentals were through the roof. This showed by how well they did demolishing teams like Tartan by 30 (which had Jake Sullivan who went to Iowa State). That's why I wish them and Henry would've played. I think it would've been a coin flip - but you're talking about two teams, one full of D1 talent going against one who's best player that year was a good D2 player (though, he could probably have gone mid-majors but just lacked that elite athleticism). I think that's what made Litchfield so amazing those years.

In November Heide according to 247 Sports was leaning towards Purdue or assumed in their recruitment predictions, at present they have altered the opinion since they claim there are possibly some rumblings Minnesota & Arizona are still in the picture, it would be a great start for Ben Johnson and the Gophers with in-state recruiting.....

2003 big man grad here, I played against John Carlson I believe in a summer league game and he was strong as an ox. All the farm boy stereotypes applied to him.

05 Braham could beat anyone in the state that year. Team was loaded and relatively weak senior class statewide (Travis Busch was Mr. Basketball)

Haha I almost included Braham in my last post. I literally had never heard of the town before, but I remember playing them in 2001-2002 and being really surprised how competitive they were. No idea how many Dahlmans were on the team at the time.

You might be right. I watched alot of games with that henry team and every game I saw they were not really challenged so they mainly played for dunks alley oops and long 3 pters. I think a litchfield team that plays sound and presses you the whole game maybe would have challenged that. Henry had the most talent but sometimes hard work and team work can outweigh that. But I think it would have been a good game.

Yeah, it would have been a good game. Litchfield was one of the best MN teams (regardless of class).

I just don't think they could have pressed a Henry team with essentially 4 D1 guards. But who knows, they were special.

Grew up playing with and against the dahlmans and Vaughn. Youngest Dahlman ended up at St Scholastica I think.

Vaughn played on a very good NDSU team that made the tournament and almost beat 2 seed Kansas. Ben Woodside was their star.

+1

Except one of them, he was fast as hell. I never thought of farm boys as being that quick.

Yeah and Purdue Picked up another high confidence crystal ball pick since they said that. Not that I know how this new confidence thing actually works. Maybe its because people started to recognize that people would make bad picks and then change them the day before commitment.

These girls games haven’t been very good. I didn’t even realize Hopkins lost

All this chatter about Litchfield and Braham is kinda funny to me. I graduated in 2000 and played on a real solid team in the same conference as Braham, so I was very familiar with them. Very competitive basketball school, though they were much better at football then. Litchfield was the team our coach told us was the only team he wasn't sure we could compete with (in 2A). When I saw them play in the state tournament in 2000 I understood why. I haven't seen anything like it since. I came back to my old high school and watched that 05 Braham team crush my alma mater. I came away from that game thinking those Litchfield teams would have blasted those Braham teams. Also, IMO, Noah Dahlman was better than Isaiah.

That was a good close game just now. Better than those 3 blowouts yesterday
AA and AAA games are ho hum. I think I missed a wild ending to A while on a call for work. AAAA was close.

I don’t have tons of optimism for great games tomorrow for the boys. Most intrigued by AA
