All Things 2021 Gophers Basketball Recruiting Thread

No, it's does he win. I don't care if they're all from North Korea. Too many people have a hard on for Coyle. Who cares who he interviewed or what he said at the press conference. Coyle put his neck on the line with the hire. That's all that matters. If Ben doesn't work out in a few years, Coyle and his reputation will take a hit - maybe he will lose his job (but only if PJ doesn't work out). But who cares what he said in a press conference. Like it or not, athletic directors don't owe explanations to fans on why they hired someone. They make the decision they feel is best and they live with it.
It does matter and they do owe a little explanation when you hire a guy who seems to be under qualified for the position. It matters when you ask people for donations and to buy season tickets.

I get your point on some fans being ridiculous about how much weight they put on the 2022 class, but until we see a game, that’s going to be the barometer of him being a successful hire over other candidates with better resumes. When games start being played people will move on from it, but you can’t expect every fan in this case to just be like “Well Coyle decided this guy is the best, so we will just follow along”.

All that being said, I like the guys Ben has brought in as far as players and assistants so far. I’m already starting to see a plan and a culture being built. That’s necessary to be successful and I hope Ben can carry it out. In the end with Coyle view, it will matter on if he runs a clean program and wins. That’s it. If he wins, fans will show up and get over their previous worries.

Is a Control Guard more Fly or more Dope? I sometimes confuse those terms too

I am taking the term 'control guard' to mean additional ball handlers who can assist in controlling the ball, bringing it up the court, etc. As opposed to PG, who runs the offense and primarily distributes the ball. Am I right, CoMn? Close, but missing nuances? Or a straight up whiff?
Combo Guard...yes you are all right:) Point just being that lots of combo guards can play point...which is why they aren't shooting guards.

Looked at Yu's highlight reel and came away somewhat impressed by his shooting stroke, footwork and shot blocking ability. Whether we want to invest 4 years on this guy is another question since he may be viewed as a project (Konate, Gaston) by many. He already looks farther along than Freeman so I'd be inclined to take a shot.
Porndog mentioned Harold Yu, a 7'3" center prospect, in post 1055. Here's one of several available videos for Yu:

He looks good to me but only one offer...that is from Cal, however???????
Rivals also lists USC and Vanderbilt as showing interest. I like that he seems to be able to finish at the rim using either hand and shows good shooting form.

So since it's looking like the A&M package is on life support, can we pick up any scraps for a team in the 21 class?

He must be pretty good, he is the only one on his team that score in the video....lol. Reminds me of Randy Breuer with that 3 inch vertical leap. He look kinda soft and slow.

I mean I would love to be wrong on this but I think he would get swallowed up by the physicality of the B1G. His shot release looks slow, he looks like he could block shots but the time it took for him to get there on the defensive rotation tells me that B1G guards would be at the cup before he could rotate over there. I know we need bodies though.
This kid would get destroyed in the B1G way too soft, he makes Robbins look like Thor.

We don't need them that bad

Mitchell would be a good get for this team. Get it done, Ben!

Don't remember for sure...did Mitchell have a Gophers offer out of high school?
