All Things 2014 Basketball Recruiting Thread

I wouldn't get wrapped up in the numbers. There may be 4 slots that project to be open as of today and you certainly need to add at least 2-3 guys for 2014... but, ultimately whether they sign 2, 3, 4 or 5 depends on who the staff would like to add and who would like to be added.

There will probably always be space for the Big Three, should they opt to attend the U.

Couldn't agree more.

STrib: LaChance's coach on Minnesota official visit: 'He likes the coaches'

“He likes the coaches – he really commented on that,” Adams said. “He went to a practice they had and was really impressed with the intensity and the effort that was out there.”

Though Minnesota was just in Brookfield the day before LaChance headed to Minneapolis for his official, the Gophers could be back in Wisconsin this week, along with expected open gym visitors Iowa, Creighton and Vanderbilt.

Go Gophers!!

What do you guys know about Adonys Henriquez? Is it bad that I haven't heard of him?

He de-committed from Miami recently. He's a long, tall, athletic wing. 4 star I believe. I don't know much else about him so hopefully someone else can chime in

Great to be in another top-100 players final list though!

46th overall player on ESPN: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/144198/adonys-henriquez
92nd overall player on 247: http://247sports.com/Player/Adonys-Henriquez-20749
130th overall player on Rivals: http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Adonys-Henriquez-132137
28th ranked SG on Scout: http://scouthoops.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=8&c=1&nid=5878481

Would be a great get. I'd have to imagine someone like Vaughn would still consider us even if we did get him. It seems like he is a good but not great or extraordinary prospect.

They don't just bank scholarships. I'm pretty sure that 13th scholarship is going to go to Kendal Shell for this year, then he will return to walk-on status next year.

Everyone knows that. That is what he meant by "banking a scholarship."

Is he planning on actually taking a visit to Minnesota, or is it just curious interest that will never material into anything serious? That's the difference between me getting excited or not.

He is supposed to be visiting Oct. 12, and then making his decision late Oct.

I would probably lean towards it being a very very good get!

Kid has great size and is very athletic... He also had offers from schools like UCONN, Georgetown & Florida so he's gotta be a stud, right? :)

Anyone know what Cunningham's shooting is like? I know he's more of an athlete than a shooter, but I'm curious if we're talking Rodney shooting or Paul Carter shooting or what

He averaged 12.1ppg on a good Mac Irvin Fire team, good for the third leading scorer, behind studs Jahlil Okafor and Cliff Alexander. He shot .516 from the floor but only .267 from three. He shot something like 67% from the free throw line. It's a small sample size but it looks like shooting is an area he could improve.

I don't think I ever realized how great of an athlete Josh Martin is. Combine that with his terrific perimeter skills for a PF and I really, really hope he's our first commit.

He definitely looks like a terrific athlete. Doesn't look 6'9" to me though. Either way he'll be a great addition if he commits here.

I see him listed at 6'7 most frequently and that seems about right. There's still time for a growth spurt though.

I see. I had 6'9" in my mind for some reason.

That's okay though, you can succeed at the 4 in the Big Ten at 6'7"

I'm hopeful that we land Martin too.

It sounds like Pittsburgh is also recruiting Bonzie Colson and Ryan Luther at the PF spot. Hopefully they land one of those two and we get Martin.

I saw Martin play in the Reebok all-star game at Rucker Park in Harlem (Rashad played in it too) and became a huge fan. He got 15 plus rebounds and played extremely hard. I was afraid he was going to get hurt because he was flying around so much. He ran the floor nicely and had some highlight type dunks. He didn't get to shoot very much because the ball was shot as soon as someone got their hands on it. I don't think some of his rankings justify how good he is. I really hope he becomes a Gopher. The announcer kept calling him "Avatar" and he didn't appear to like it, but I noticed he changed his Twitter handle from"Hulk" to "Avatar" the day after the game so he must have embraced the name.

After his visit I thought Martin would be a Gopher, but based on his tweets this week it sounds like he really hasn't made up his mind yet and is struggling with his decision.

Couldn't agree more... After watching him these past few months I don't see why he's ranked so low by some of the ranking sites.
