This is where we differ. Many of us said all year that we were not impressed with the Gopher's WRs. We've had difficulty recruiting the position. They seldom got any separation. Our offensive line wasn't great either. Max made our offense MUCH better than it should have been last year. As others have said, he is the best Gopher QB we've seen in our lifetimes.Howard, Gabriel, Rourke. Allard by stats but I think he’s overrated. Atlmyer close too
Can you say the same about Howard or Gabriel with the talent that surrounded them? Did they elevate the talent or did the talent elevate them? They were both late round draft choices and no one has said they definitely have NFL futures. If they are out of the league in a year, no one will bat an eye. Rourke has been hurt so I'll withhold judgement, but he was only a 7th rounder. Most would say after Max's performances so far this preseason that he should have been drafted.
Seeing Max play with Ohio State's loaded squad would have been unbelievable. Same with Oregon. Gabriel isn't exactly tearing things up in Cleveland. I'd take Brosmer's game IQ over any of those guys. Howard definitely has more talent, but that VERY often doesn't pan out if you never develop between the ears. If you give them equal talent, I think Brosmer may well have been the best QB in the B1G last year the last half of the year (after getting acclimated). I'm not saying I called that. No one did!
Now, we're seeing him on an equal playing field in the NFL. You could argue he has looked better than any of the rest. I agree with you that he looks even better now than with the Gophers. Again, I don't think anyone saw that coming either. You'd think a fifth year senior, super hard worker, that's as smart as him might actually be close to maxed out, but it seems he's taken it to a whole new level. As I saw suggested earlier, the jump from FBS NH to the B1G may have been bigger than (or at least similar to) from the B1G to NFL.
PS - Daniel Jackson, by far our best WR, was just released by the Texans.
