2024-25 Wild Season

After undergoing surgery to repair a lower-body injury on Friday, the Minnesota Wild placed star winger Kirill Kaprizov on long-term injured reserve on Sunday.

That means Kaprizov has to miss at least 10 games, putting his earliest possible return date at March 2 when the Wild host the Boston Bruins. The move to long-term IR is retroactive to Jan. 26, so he's already missed three of the minimum 10 games.

He'll be out 6 weeks, I bet. No way they rush him back. Especially if we maintain our playoff positioning. If we start to tank, then they might push the timetable.

He needs to change his ways if he wants to stick around. I mean he did have a 30 goal season but that sure seems like a fluke. He hasn't come close to that since. Maybe this wakes him up. Time will tell
I think he is pretty skilled and could generate a lot of goals. I don't think his output was a fluke - maybe the high end, but not a fluke. I honestly just think he's kind of an HJ Pierzynski type guy - that is to say, a dick.

He deserves every single game. Perhaps i missed it, but I would like to see some comments from him....some accountability on his part. Own up to it. Not only was it a dangerous play, but he also screwed his teammates over as well. And all on top of him being invisible this season

Glad I missed these last 2 games. Wild shutout for the second straight game losing to Boston 3-0. I guess going 3-2 on the road trip isn't bad but the lack of scoring is a bit concerning

Stanley Cup homeboy 😎

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota Wild President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Bill Guerin today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has claimed forward Vinnie Hinostroza off waivers from the Nashville Predators and placed forward Jakub Lauko (lower-body) on Injured Reserve.

Hey the Wild can win at home 2-1 over Hurricanes. Gus was the star with 37 saves with 14 coming in the third. New guy Hinostroza gets the game winner

No way they rush him back no matter how we do down the stretch. Next year is a contract year, we're not going to make him play unless he feels he's ready to play.

Make that 2 in a row at home after beating the islanders 6-3 after going down 3-1. Boldy with 2 and an apple

Good game last night between Canada and Sweden. Canada got extra point with 3 on 3 OT goal. EE got game tying goal for the Swedes in 3rd period.
US and Finland tonight.
Have I mentioned I hate 3 on 3 hockey.

VGK's #1 blue-liner, Shea Theodore, suffered an injury to his wrist/hand last night; out for the rest of the tournament. If it's broken, he would be out almost exactly the amount of time until the first round of the playoffs.

Cue the deafening screams of people about VGK abusing LTIR if that happens and they go big-game hunting at the trade deadline yet again. Like it was somehow planned or they would PREFER to play the next couple months without their best defenseman who is having a career year...

3 on 3 hockey is awful. Too good of a game last night to be decided that way.

I haven't heard any screams of abuse related to the Theodore situation, but you'd have to be delusional to deny that there has been some funny business with Mark Stone.

Now I don't necessarily blame VGK - it's not like they designed the flawed system. But let's not act like they haven't taken advantage.

Stone never should have played in the first round last season; he looked like a 75-yr old man, limping around the ice. He gutted it out because he's the Captain, but he likely hurt the team infinitely more than he helped them.

It's hard to make a strong argument that your team can be markedly better in the first round of the playoffs when they are putting lines on the ice of players who haven't been playing together for the last 2+ months, if they have EVER played together (Tomas Hertl last postseason).

For every Stanley Cup run you can find a dozen instances where having a player back in the first round that hasn't played in MONTHS has been more of a detriment than a benefit.

I get the screaming, but for every season Stone was injured, VGK would have much rather had him on the ice during the stretch run. One of the years Stone got hurt before the deadline, his absence resulted in VGK missing the playoffs altogether.

If I were a GM, coach or fan, I wouldn't want my guys playing in this thing. Sorry. It's great for hockey. But it's wear-and-tear and risk of injury for what actually matters. Two thumbs down.

(Fun to watch though......I thought it would be more tame. I did enjoy McDavid getting it back in his face after he cheaply cross-checked dude in the neck. Also, McDavid is ridiculously good.)

I was thinking the same thing watching JEE get smashed in the face with a high stick. It sure is fun to watch but this tourney doesn't exactly carry the weight and prestige of the Olympics to warrant the risk for Cup challenging teams.

OT was 10 minutes of watching McKinnon going 1 on 1 using the defender as a screen while moving to his right to take a shot.

Brodin and JEE both with goals and Gus stood on his head all game long. Definitely a great showing by the Wild boys.

Exhibit A for love-hate on this stupid thing. Spot on. Please - no Wild injuries.

The World Cup is coming back in 2028. If it's like before it will be played in the off season in August.

Yeah I don't particularly like it being played now but with that said I'll watch just for the fact how stacked these teams are. Thought Canada was going to run away with it last night only to have Sweden get it to overtime. Saturdays game with Canada and the US is going to be much watch puck

USA with dominate 3rd period in 6 - 1 win. Boldy with game winner from Faber. Tkachuk brothers with big game.

Tkachuk brothers had 2 goals apiece on the same line. Pretty damn cool playing with your brother for Team USA

3 fights in the first 9 seconds and USA beats Canada 3-1. USA in the ship and it could be against any other 3 countries as they all have 2 points

Is goal differential the tie break?

INJURY UPDATES HEADING INTO THE FINAL

Injuries could play a huge role in the outcome of this game.

Charlie McAvoy has been ruled out for the final, a massive loss for USA’s blue line.

Matthew and Brady Tkachuk are expected to play despite being banged up, per ESPN’s Emily Kaplan.

Auston Matthews is also expected to play, though he has been dealing with soreness.

Quinn Hughes has been added to USA’s roster but can only play if another player is ruled out. He has yet to appear in the tournament due to injury but would provide a strong counter to Cale Makar if he were able to make it into the US lineup.
