2024-25 Gopher Hockey Season

UST approaching UND/ASU levels of goonery. Just hope our guys make it out of this healthy. Just because the Tommies aren’t playing postseason hockey doesn’t mean they should endanger teams that will be.

Watched Friday's game. Didn't see yesterday's game but listened to most of it via stream. Takeaways from that, and the overall weekend:

1) St Thomas isn't very good, although they do have a few high-caliber players. Not many who could get a lot of playing time for the Gophs
2) I hate whatever the Fox9+ thing is. Couldn't find a way to watch Saturday's game
3) I'm still wondering about our goaltending. It has been solid but they just haven't been tested enough or shown enough to make me feel great about it
4) This team won't back down from physical play, even though they won't make heavy physicality a big part of the game.
5) I was disappointed with USTs gooning
6) We are really deep. Knew that but it becomes more apparent every game. Our 4th line could be 2nd line at most D1 programs
7) Wood is as good as advertised
8) Loved the Lamb hat trick
9) Kurth has been outstanding
10) Rinzel, Chesley, Koster... wow.
11) Snuggy... I don't know. The puck was on his stick a lot. Just not getting points. I like to think that it will eventually come for him but, as others have pointed out, this beyond just a trend.
12) I will not say yet that "we are better than two years ago" but... I am starting to think we are.

Overall, Gophs did what they needed to do. Looking forward to the next series already.

FOX 9+ is your ticket to local sports. It reaches nearly 2 million homes and can be found on Comcast channel 10/807, DirecTV channel 29, DISH channel 29, Spectrum channel 10, Mediacom channel 10/803, and Over-The-Air channel 9.2. In addition, these games will be available on FOX 9+ on Hulu with Live TV, Sling TV, FuboTV, and YouTube TV.

There is zero way I'll say this team is as good as two years ago until they start playing good teams. And goaltending scares me for those games as neither has been tested whatsoever.

The Fox9 app is great, but for those who live outside of the Fox9 viewing area, you can only watch their locally produced shows (news for example). Most sports and prime time shows are not available to those outside the Fox9 market and they must watch those on their local Fox affiliate. I would suggest that people get the B1G+ app. It will allow you to see most of the B1G games that are within the conference. The non conference away games are the rights of that team, so additional streaming options may have to be chosen if you wish to watch those. ( NCHC, CCHA etc) I know that the B1G+ app is expensive but we really don't have much of a choice these days.

To your number 4, Im quite alright with that. A hockey team doesn't need to throw their weight around to be successful, but you can't be successful if you have trouble handling other teams throwing theirs around.

I'm good with it too. In fact I'd prefer it. I'd be a North Dakota fan if I felt otherwise.

#4/4 Gophers (5-1-0) vs. #18/18 PSU (4-1-0)
Friday, November 1 at 7:00 - Fox9+
Saturday, November 2 at 7:00 - Fox9+

Not many thoughts on this one. Aiden Fink is a good player but I don't think PSU is great. Should be another small step up in the challenge level but should be a sweep.

25 year old Souliere (26 in March) gets to go against his old team. I think he was like 1-6 against the Gophers at Mariucci with them.

PSU has a drafted transfer goalie (former Matthew Wood teammate) that I wanted the Gophers to get so let's see how he looks in the goalie battle.

I'd rather have Pitlick's quirks than whatever the hell this effort is from Snuggerud in the last 25 games

Airey looks like a boxer tonight. That’s not good when you are a goalie or a catcher.

We knew goal tending was going to be an issue and Motzko chose to let a goalie seek him out in the portal instead of going out and finding a good one.

The PP... Just wow.

I think two times he's scored I had ripped him before so will probably keep doing that when I hate the effort level for good luck

Might need a new assistant that knows how to coach a PP cuz it's been painful for multiple seasons

Anyone who has watched Jimmy so far knew it was a matter of time until he buried a couple.

Effort was better in that period, and got rewarded. But I'll have no problem calling him out as the Gophers need him rolling to win a title
Would not be surprised if Bob went off on them between the first and second. Puck luck and shit jumping off the stick happens. Motor is modifiable and was not there in the first but was in the second

Goalie verdict, I wish he was our goalie

So many opportunities to put Penn State away and Gophers keep shooting themselves in the foot.

Good win against a decent opponent. PSU goalie kept them in it plus a few uncharacteristic missed opportunities for our guys, but no question who the better team was. After an uninspiring first period the gophers largely dominated the next 40
Minutes. Let’s see brooms tomorrow.

He looked no better than Airey live. Bad on the puck and very skittish/unsettled at times. Don’t just look for the negative
What? He is huge and was generally positioning himself quite well to make saves look easy.

Was driving home from the game, but good 2nd and third period and you take 3-1 wins all day every day against decent teams in college hockey.

I guess Jimmy had an early dinner reservation to get to. That's our captain.😆

You mean one of our ten captains. And like the 8th best player on the team so far this season.
