2024-25 Gopher Hockey Season

Wood reminds me of the kid that hits a growth spurt and is way bigger than all his teammates on the Peewee A team, is able to do well because of great hands but looks clumsy, slow with decision making, and the speed holds him back more and more each level he moves up. He's not jumping straight to the NHL next year. Might as well stay another in college.

He’s 19. I’d envision the preds probably weren’t thinking he comes in unless he explodes this year. His camp has already said as much about this being a 1-2 year thing so if it’s already being mentioned this early, I think they well understand he may not be ready

#6/6 Gophers (1-1-0) @ UMD (1-2-0)

On paper the Gophers would be expected to win but I think UMD is underrated because of their youth. They won't have Max Plante, though. Plus, UMD owns the Gophers at Amsoil. UMD has an NHL prospect goalie that I wanted the Gophers to flip for years. The games should be close.

FF tickets secured in the Jameson Club level

I sell if the Gophers don't make it. Hope I get to use them.
better to just go and make a time of it. that's what i'll be doing and then it becomes even sweeter when the gophs are there. hoping there'll be some club tix left when I get to select

I don't pay money to watch a rival hang a banner. Especially a city like Stl where the tourism part is meh.

There are not many club seats left. Let me know if you want me to check what's there the night before your turn and I can send over the info so you can be fast when it opens

Maybe it's just me but I have a big TV and it's really hard to see the puck on this broadcast

They've got their bench side announcer girl talking with her back to the ice while play is going. Just stupid and dangerous

16 shots in less than 12 minutes is insane.

Gophers are just toying with the dogs out there. Wow this is fun.

Imagine how good they'd be if Snuggerud did anything

Yup goaltending will probably be a huge problem against better teams. F***

Moore has been all over tonight. I see a big year ahead for him.

Need to complete the sweep tomorrow and UMD won't let them start 4-0 again.

Airey was bad but I’m not going to let that overshadow a dominant gopher performance. Give Souliere the net tomorrow night and bury little brother.

Not in one period though. That was madness
That’s fair. Even with their feet under them, the grade A chances were heavily slanted. Would be very unsurprised to see another 5+ game with the expectation Bob tells them to focus on d zone first

Feeling nostalgic watching the game. This is our family’s 50th year with Gopher hockey season tickets. Remembering the tremendous Minnesota-UMD WCHA games from the 70s and 80s. A marker of the depth of the WCHA in its best years: Pavelich & Harrington & the Bulldogs tying (6-6) and beating (1-6) our superb ‘79 NCAA hockey champs at Williams Arena. Fast forward to Doug Woog’s first year with Micheletti, McSwain & Millen sweeping Hull, Moore & Watson at the “old” Mariucci Arena in February, 1986. If memory serves we tied the Friday night game in the last seconds before winning in OT. Huge thanks to the players on both teams who gave us such wonderful hockey all those years ago.

I liked that the team never really let off the gas. If you look purely at the score you might think they did, but really Gajan made a lot of big saves. Trade goalies and this game is probably 12-2. Loved the energy from this team.

I liked that as well. But obviously didn't like the five goals given up. Seemed to me that our goalie was losing site of the puck a lot. A few of those were way too easy as he was so far out of position. Hard to tell if that's a technique thing or if UMD was getting some fortunate bounces.

A few other observations...

1) we have guys who can shoot the puck. Many of our goals were absolute snipes.
2) Our D is even deeper than I thought. Weird to say that after we gave up five but I really didn't put too much of that on the D-Corps. The forwards definitely had a hand in that as did the goalie.
3) Snuggy. I would love for him to break out and score a few. Not sure what is going on there.

Another win tonight and I'll be pleased with the weekend!

airey seems to really struggle with traffic. umd got some fortune with where the puck ended up, but airey lets himself be too impacted by bodies and ends up out of position.

agree 100% on the d. they are so calm with the puck up and down the group. makes the breakout go and they're VERY willing to join the rush and drive the net, which is a massive plus for the season.

they'll come for snuggy. gajan made a couple of huge saves on him (agree with those who said the couldve been a dozen for the gophers and wouldn't have felt that surprising).

ill be curious to see who UMD plays tonight in net. Gajan was lights out but gave up 7 and had a ton of shots. Could see them wanting to get Sandy some work as well. Either way, excited to be there again tonight and hopefully we see the Gophers a little tighter in their own zone and finish some early chances to not let them feel like they could steal one
