2024-25 Gopher Hockey Season

The face off issues scare me as I'm not sure it can really be fixed in season. Only lessened.

Injuries could become a problem. Thomas and Falloon out and now Pahlsson tbd...this is why you don't carry only 14 forwards where Michel is your 14th.

Michel AND Begley in the lineup will not work against the Michigan teams. Better hope all three are back soon.

Trailing after two for the first time this season.

I smell a shootout loss at best with the way they're playing and 11 forwards. Let's see

OT win on a great play by Ziemer. I'll take that after another slow slow start

Not playing super well right now.

But winning games, thats the key. Lots of room to get better and already stock piling wins in league

Another comeback 3-2 win, this time in OT. They seem to be pulling four leaf clovers out their asses.🙂

That's true I could only half pay attention in the first as I was out and then driving, then home for the second which I recalled not being a great period. So my start wasn't the start

Begley has been ok, but you just don’t play either of them all that much. The 4 very strong lines has worn teams out, but you can ride with 11 forwards getting more time for short periods (similar to how in the past we really should’ve played the 4th line less in the postseason)

The problem is you now lost a center so rolling 4 lines is going to be a problem.

There’s not a roster in college hockey that has a 14th forward or 8th or 9th defenseman worth a shit. Most barely play their 4th line or 6/7th defenseman. Begley, Rud, Michel are role players and if any of them leave they will be replaced by similar role players. Do you seriously want them to waste finite scholarship dollars on players who aren’t going to see the ice? No legit D-1 level player is ever going to want to be those guys, they want to play. They didn’t even have to play Begley this weekend at all but I’m sure Bob wants to reward those guys with some minutes when he can. Every time I see people complain about those guys I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. They seem to be well liked by their teammates and buy in to their role, exactly what you would want with those guys.

BC sweeps Maine to confirm the preseason knowledge that they and DU are in their own tier.

I think they’re the best 2 as well but we’ll learn way more about DU next weekend. Schedule was Charmin soft so far. BC also lost to MSU. Don’t think the gap is quite as far as it was last year with BC at the top, though they’re definitely the favorite on paper. BU has been really up and down as the young guys there get acclimated. Don’t think they’ll have enough to try push BC in HE

Of course they will lose games (Trey Augustine being the reason for the first one), but I think the gap will actually grow between those two and the rest by Xmas. UMN/UM/MSU will be beating up on each other.

Given the nature of one-and-ours and the puck-luck nature of hockey, chances are BC & DU likely have a combined 50% chance of winning the national time. That leaves plenty of opportunity. The problem is Minnesota had a lot of company competing in the other half space. Nevertheless, if out goaltending is solid we’ll have our shot in the NCAA tourney.

That's completely true. They would both win a best of 7 against the Gophers for sure, but thankfully it's not like that.
