2024-25 Gopher Hockey Season

I have to give a shoutout to Jimmy Snuggerud. I was one those people who assumed that based on the way he played the last 2 months of the season last year he had one foot out the door. The way he has played this season, not just individually but from a team perspective, makes me think the rumors of him playing with an injury last year had some truth to them. He has come back and played some great hockey and been a huge leader on this team. He may even have a chance to be a Hobey finalist - pretty cool to see his work pay off.

unless he goes complete ghost mode down the stretch, would be shocking if he's part of the hobey hat trick

Slow start but once they kicked it in, Gophs controlled the game. 31 had a great game between the pipes. That place was rocking last night and hoping it's the same tonight.

Talk about a first period that was 6,000 times more enjoyable than the first period last night.

Maybe the Hastings curse has been broken. BADgers really taking runs at guys the last 2 minutes.

Hastings sending out the extra skater to take runs at guys certainly says something about him.

Hastings knows he's fucked and no high end players want to commit to him

We need Bonin to criticize soulie before every weekend. He was outstanding this weekend

Always an A+ weekend sweeping the stinking badger

BC hangs 8 on NE in Beanpot semi to get their 20th win in game 25. 20-4-1, last year 19-5-1 through the same. 8 wins in a row, all regulation without giving up more than 2. Ryan Leonard the Hobey favorite.

BU hangs 7 and forming into one of the "non-BC" contenders with their new star goalie and Cole Hutson already the second best D man in the country as a freshman.

Beanpot championship a potential FF semi or championship preview.

Big Ten reffing is still a joke.
Does the Big 10 actually employ their own refs or are they the same ones that other conferences use (like basketball)?

I took in my first game of the season this past Saturday at Mariucci, and it was quite fun. It was great to be at a Sold Out arena and have it be way over 90% Gopher fans. The pair of North Dakota games I have been to (post-WCHA split) it was much closer to the 50-50.

Also, I am a huge fan of the 5PM puck drop (on Saturday).

Yeah I like the early start as well.

Snuggy named co HCA player of the month. First since Cooley was rookie of the month in Feb 2023

This is your first warning.

Get ready to take over Fargo.
Tickets have been sold out but it will certainly be enjoyable watching plenty of them hit the market as soon as und is bounced in the nchc tournament. At this point, looking more and more likely they end up there given the way the seedings look and where und is going to finish, even if they got in we’d probably end up being the seed who would match with them there though things could change if WMU gets up to a 1 seed (or Denver) to add a 3rd western team so someone has to go East. Would assume in that case it’s one or western or MSU, but you never know given where the regionals are and the host teams if they scrape in can make it weird

5 points back from MSU

I hope they get 4 points this weekend at Yost. A regulation win and a SO or OT loss. I don't think MSU will lose another game so I think the Gophers will finish second which is fine.

Go 5-0-1 or 5-1 (with OT loss) over these next six. Anything less than that and I don't like how tight the margins will be with Maine and WMU.

Given our schedule vs theirs I would have my money on MSU winning the B10 as well. Which might not be the worst thing so we can play a first round series rather than have a bye.

Particularly in a year getting the 3 may end up being a big deal given the likely 3 autobids we’ll see. Obviously getting all the way up to 2 would’ve been better, but that ship is seeming well sailed

Weak non-con schedule killed that hope along with not taking care of business against Alaska and BSU.

even if they won those games, losing the H2H comp 2-0 with MSU (2-0-2) was the death knell. We're better in the games under comparison than they are. their RPI kills us with the BC series and the QWB. Our RPI will catch up to theirs over the next few weeks given we have ranked road games with Michigan, home games with top 10 OSU and the PSU games we have advantage as they're road games.

As far as Maine and WMU, WMU should rack up a bunch of wins given they get Omaha, UND, and Miami but losses in any of those games will really hurt. at ASU will be a good chance for them to rack up QWB though. Like the Gophs chances to hang onto the 3 or 4 with how we've played our remaining teams thus far. margins will get real tight either way and once you hit the 4 it really isn't going to matter as it's more matchup based with who you get in the first round and the regional final will be moot. Though it could be important for last change and faceoffs.

They sweep Michigan this weekend and all is probably fine for locking the 1 seed.

Fall to 5 and have Maine get 4 and then you lose the fan support you'd get in Fargo and you play to an empty arena in Allentown.

Think they’d be much more inclined for us to play in Fargo against WMU in this scenario (I’m assuming you mean WMU 3, Maine 4, MN 5) and keep Prov OSU and UCONN out east. But yes once you become not a 1 your chances to stay closer to home drop.

Am more meaning from an opponent standpoint. Unless we totally crater down to the 7-8 area with WMU and DU both ahead of us, I’d expect we’re in Fargo. There just aren’t many “western” teams who will make it this year

We aren't going to fall to 5. At least I sure hope not... That said the final stretch will not be easy. Even if we do fall to five, I just want 'em to win. Do not care too much if it's in Allentown, Fargo, or Mystery, Alaska. Ok, yes, I'd rather have Fargo but you know what I mean.

Fargo obviously ideal for travel purposes but fans in the stands realistically have little to no impact on a hockey game.

I mean I wouldn’t go that far. Playing goalie at Mariucci as the away guy is not a great time. At a neutral site, it’s going to be atypical to matter much though I agree unless one team has a huuuuuge advantage, which we could theoretically have unless the green pukes come wearing their Holy Cross jerseys (which I’d doubt as it’s going to much more towards apathy there this offseason until Berry is canned)

Now that they have a future NHL goalie, BU is officially a problem. Can you imagine a 1/8/9/16 of BC/DU/BU/Cupcake. Good lord.
