2024-25 Gopher Hockey Season

1 and 2 overall seed won't happen. Now pray for 3 or 4 but I don't see it. This is a 5 to 8 team just like last year. I'll leave the rest of the commentary this weekend to the maroon and gold glasses wearers as my analysis of this team hasn't changed in months.

St Louis chance is about 20%.
We have a shot at a 1, but probably a 2 seed at worst in the tourney. We’re one of the legit threats to win it all.

I’d be very ok if I never had to watch another college 3v3 or shootout ever again. It’s not exciting nor a showcase of talent
This is absolutely right. Any set up that is designed so that 50% of the time you are deliberately giving up the offensive zone (except penalty kill) while in possession speaks for itself. Joke. Hate shootouts too. If I were king for a day, we'd do 4x4 in OT, and scrap the shootout. Call it a tie. Maybe I'm just getting old.

Think he is saying we won't be one of the top 2 seeds in the tourney. I'm not quite sure who said we would be. I still think we'll get a #1 seed (I'll predict 3rd overall).

I understood what he said, was just trying to talk him off the ledge. Probably pointless with bonin I know.

Bonin needs to change up his routine. His greatest hits are getting stale. We have all heard them 100 times. All I can say is I'm glad he is not a doctor with his sunny disposition and his positive attitude because his patients would go off themselves after visiting him.

Yes, 4 on 4 would be way more exciting and would mean fewer shootouts.

Part of the problem is the league points are the exact same in that it’s 2-1 whether it’s OTW or SOW. So it’s actually beneficial from a risk aversion standing to play conservatively and take a tie and try earn the extra point rather than play more chancy hockey which can hurt you in the pwr. Just go back to 2 points for a win and 1 for a tie. Idk why we always need to have every game have a “winner”. 5 min of 4v4 was fine and nobody goes home feeling like the game sucked and was devastated it was unresolved if it ends in a tie

It was 5 on 5 for 5
i'm meaning, that was the proposal was to go to 4 on 4. apologies for how I worded/phrased that and have updated, my mistake. You end up with so many 1 on 2s in college because they don't join the rush or just circling around in the zone.

And that being said, i'd rather play 5 on 5 than what we do now. College players just aren't skilled enough to consistently make high scoring opportunities happen like they do in the NHL, especially playing a back to back. Maybe they can tweak the rules to try to make it so regrouping out over center ice causes a whistle, but there just aren't enough college guys that can consistently blow past others like happens in the NHL if you tried to back into your zone too heavily.

Proposal 1: 5 on 5 for 5 minutes. 2 points on the line. All the points and the full pairwise if you win it in OT. After that if tied, everyone goes home.

Proposal 2: 5 on 5 for 5 minutes. All 3 points and full pairwise win if you win it. THEN, 5 minutes 3 on 3 for the second point but it's a pairwise tie. Then stupid shootout.

The players can handle five more minutes of playing.

Since the 2000s or so, most career points by three-year players:
Haula - 42-82-124 in 114GP
Snuggerud - 60-61-121 in 107GP
Taffe - 56-57-113 in 120GP
Pitlick - 47-61-108 in 112GP

Snuggerud has stepped up. Everyone else has disappeared.

Either is better than current but I’ll take option one

No thanks. I don't think more stupid 3v3 is needed. Just do either 5 mins of 5v5 OT like it used to be, or no overtime at all.
