Generally many companies are more adept at taking the money than disbursing it. If someone is looking at a guaranteed signing bonus of significant $ hard to blame them for sitting out a bowl game. Some people have no safety net in life. Others do.
This x 1000. These dudes may be changing their life and the life of dozens of family members. Someone offers you millions guaranteed to skip a game—you take it. Ya know?
 



G5 schools that beat a P5 in a major bowl:

BCS era (where there was not automatic bid for a G5):
2006 - Boise St over OU - still stuck in the Mountain West
2008 - Utah over Alabama - upgraded to the PAC 12
2010 - TCU over Wisconsin - upgraded to the Big XII
2012 - Louisville over Florida - upgraded to the ACC
2013 - UCF over Baylor - upgraded to the Big XII (soon)

CFP era (one G5 in the NY6 every year):
2014 - TCU
2015 - Houston over Florida State - upgraded to the Big XII (soon)
2017 - UCF

2022 - Tulane over USC - ?????


(Cincinnati has appear in a few major bowls, but never has won yet - upgraded to the Big XII (soon))
