Step away from the ledge, boys. He may very well choose a different school, but clearly none of us knows. I'm not sure I care what someone's gut tells them unless that gut is connected to Rashad Vaughn. I'm not saying I know anything, nor am I declaring what my gut thinks. Sorry. I just get a little Grinchy when it comes to overreactions (both pro and con) based on nothing.

Who said he has an aversion toward the Gophers? He hasn't mentioned us lately. Big deal. Keep the Gophers playing well, and he may decide he'd like to play the hometown hero role...or not. Either way, I'm going to do my best to stay level-headed about it.

+1

I can't recall any recent interviews asking what schools he is interested in or who is recruiting him hard because everyone already knows that info by now. If he was asked those questions, I'm sure he would mention Minnesota, but all the articles I've seen recently are him recapping official visits to other schools and the writer noting what other schools are still in it. The quotes from him have been pretty limited. Maybe I've missed an article or my memory is just bad, and if so, someone please link me to a recent article that shows him talking about his recruitment (and not just recapping his visit to ISU or UNLV, of course he is only going to talk about that school in that type of article).

I don't know where Vaughn will end up. I do believe this: He would have an absolute blast and score in bunches in the Pitino system. There are shots open all over the floor with this offense and that has been the case regardless of the opponent. The movement, freedom and the pairing of Vaughn with Andre Hollins and Matheui would be deadly. As the season goes along- I hope he sees this and the great opportunity right here at home.

I wonder if Vaughn will even see any of our games. All of our conference games are on Big Ten Network.

I'm not sure what is legal but I'd bet the coaches send him a bit of video from time to time if it is legal to do so. He is for certain hearing from Gopher players and coaches how much fun the guys are having in this system.

A couple months back I spoke to Darren Dearring, the father of Wisconsin freshman Riley Dearring and Vaughn's former AAU teammate. He started to talk about the "Big 3" and when Vaughn became the subject (acted as if he knew Vaughn well), he seemed to think Minnesota wasn't even being considered. Darren said that Vaughn has been taking money from, and was implying that it is A LOT of money from a few schools. The schools he said he knew Vaughn is taking money from are North Carolina, UNLV, and Iowa State.

Again I was told this information. I'm not sure if Mr. Dearring is a reliable source as he was kind of oblivious to the recruitment of Jones and Travis (said they were both locks for Michigan St. when I believe both of them took MSU of their lists.)

I hope this is false and he is still considering Minnesota.

Go Gophers!

That's quite the claim. I'd believe it, but still quite the claim.

I think he loses all credibility here.

Don't get me wrong, I agree on that as well. Though, he did seem to know Vaughn well, he said he was close to the family.

I believe you and it wouldn't shock me if it's true, but naturally I'm going to be a little skeptical. Some people just like to act like they know something to be fact when they really don't. Not sure if he's one of those people or not since I don't know him, but if he thought Tyus and Reid were locks to MSU then he might be. Not going to take his word for it even if he does know Rashad and his family.

EDIT: In case he is right though and isn't just making assumptions based on some weak "evidence", I'm glad Minnesota isn't one of the teams he listed as paying him. Would be ecstatic to get him, but don't want to do it like that.

And yet it doesn't shock me, I just refuse to believe that the top wing in America has Iowa State and UNLV as his top two, is not from either state and they're doing it clean. Not sure why UNC needs to pay him, Vaughn has said that's his dream school and they're a blue blood, even a crappy coach should be able to get players to UNC, Kentucky, Kansas etc based on the schools name. I'm not saying Vaughn's shady, but would anyone really be surprised that in three years when he's gone, wherever he ends up is under investigation?

In most cases I would agree with this logic, but to me Rashad has always come off a player whose top priority is being the man on his team. I'm sure he wants to win like anyone else, but I think far and away the most important thing is he is getting his shots and he is alone in the spotlight. I think that is the main reason he chose to play for Net Gain and Playground Elite when he could have been playing for much better teams like Howard Pulley or D1 Minnesota. If I'm right, then it would make sense for him to play for schools like ISU or UNLV instead of Kentucky, UNC, or Kansas.

but not minnesota?

Wouldn't be that surprised. We've seen it this year with the Whitehead recruitment. I hope it's not true but I could see it...

per Sid:

Rashad Vaughn, who transferred away from Cooper before this season and is one of the highest-rated recruits in the high school basketball Class of 2014 who hasn’t signed yet, has played 11 games for Findlay Prep in Nevada and is averaging 23.3 points, 5.5 assists, 5.5 rebounds and three steals. Vaughn is shooting 67 percent from the floor and 50 percent on three-pointers.

As far as Iowa State goes, haven't our ISU friends been saying that Hoiberg's been recruiting Vaughn since he was a freshman? It seems somewhat similar to Sam Dekker's recruitment at Wisconsin. Bo Ryan went after him before his stock shot up, and Wisconsin is, according to Rivals, the only major conference school who offered him. It's not totally the same as Vaughn because he also committed very early, unlike Vaughn who appears to be waiting until the last minute, and he was an in-state recruit, but maybe the fact that Bo went after him early was appealing to him? Maybe he likes Hoiberg because he's been there since the beginning.

Or maybe Vaughn's just all about tha dolla dolla bill.

I bet he ends up at UNC. But I agree with one of the earlier posters, he would absolutely thrive here next year in this system, with the other kids in the program.

Terrible comparison, on so many levels. Sam Dekker was an in-state kid that grew up a Badger fan. It was essentially his dream to play for the Badger, hence the early commit.

I agree to the extent that he has always come off a player whose top priority is being the man on his team. But he did choose to play for Findlay Prep, which is almost always the #1 'high school' basketball team in the country. Since the 'school' has been in existence, 100% of its players have received D1 scholarship offers meaning it is the most talent stocked team in the country.

Didn't Rashad's team lose to pulley by only one point (or similar) in a very competitive game?

I think so, but that was just one game. Playground was under .500 while Pulley went 12-6. Pulley also had Tyus and Reid, so he wouldn't have gotten as many shots as he probably wanted if he played for them. Way more shots available on Playground.

I take back what I said, wasn't really thinking. I think what is actually the most important thing for him is preparing himself for the NBA, followed closely by being the man. In my other post I was focused on comparing what I believe is more important to him between winning and being the man on his team, and I think being the man is far more important to him. I don't think he went to Findlay to win, I think he went there to prepare himself for the NBA. Playing for Pulley or D1 MN wouldn't have prepared him any better since they don't really practice against each other, so it made sense for him to just play for a team where he could be the man. At Findlay he gets to practice against Kelly Oubre every day and I think that will be beneficial for his development.

UW Milwaukee is recruiting a 6th grader, if that kid ends up being as good as advertised he won't be going there. I bet someone in Vaughn's camp is about the Benjamin' s. When has a top ten recruit picked a school like Iowa State when he wasn't from said school's home state over the home school and the blue bloods, it doesn't happen, not cleanly

#6 Steven Adams from Notre Dame Prep in Baltimore to Pittsburgh in 2012 = dirty
#10 Marcus Smart from Texas to 15-18 Oklahoma State in 2012 = dirty
#10 LeBryan Nash from Texas to 20-14 Oklahoma State in 2011 = dirty
#6 Tobias Harris from New York to Tennessee in 2010 = dirty
#7 Renardo Sidney from California to Mississippi State in 2009 = dirty
#8 Michael Beasley from Massachusetts and Notre Dame Prep to Kansas State in 2007 = dirty

Since Vaughn is #17 from ESPN, guessing I would have found more between 11-17 that went to lesser programs out of state. All Dirty!!

I wouldn't doubt it in the case of the last 3 on the list. A Texas kid going to Oklahoma State is not a huge reach. It's the best basketball school in the 2 states.

I'll assume Tobias Harris turned into a bust, along with Sidney since I've never heard of them. Where's Adams from if he went to boarding school, K-State held Beasley hostage when Huggins left, Smart and Nash are from Texas, there's like 100 schools there. Besides, they all just haven't caught, yet......... Took a decade to bust the fab 5. Not saying, just saying

Tobias Harris has been doing pretty well with Orlando.
