The Gophers have beaten USC at home in wintry weather. In 1955 they beat Troy in a late October blizzard.

Ranking The Top 7 Minnesota Gopher Running Backs (1. Mo, 2. Maroney, 3. DT, 4. MB3, 5. Rodney Smith)

Injuries and competition for playing time limited his carries, but Shannon Brooks will always stand very tall in my mind. He finished his runs with a purpose that reminded me of MBIII.

USC-Minnesota football series is improbably insignificant

My parents moved us out to San Diego when I was a kid and I begged my dad to take me up to LA for the 1965 season opener vs. USC. It was a Friday night game. USC was ranked #10 and Mike Garrett was poised for his Heisman season. Warmath made an odd first quarter decision, going for two after a...

    Minnesota vs Alabama

Ah, yes. That bowl game from the 50s comes to mind where Dickie Moegle was off on another long jaunt vs. Alabama in a bowl game when a frustrated player came off the bench to tackle him. He was awarded a touchdown.

Schad: Who's your daddy? Identifying the daddies of Minnesota sports teams (Minnesota Gophers Football: Iowa Hawkeyes)

Someone aptly referred to the Gopher win over Syracuse as "winning like Iowa does", meaning an underwhelming offensive performance was offset by a pick-six and a huge special teams play. Maybe they can build on those.

Make no mistake. The responsible party for this team circling the drain is ..

I vote for Russ Archambeau. Sucker-punching El-Amin at a practice ruined Clem's efforts to land him at Minnesota and we saw what he did at UConn.

What is your favorite Gopher football memory?

My first in-person Gopher experience that got me hooked for life. Gophers score upset at Michigan in 1956. I am 6 years old and Dad takes me out to Wold Chamberlain to see the team file through the airport. Everyone is so happy, several players grinning broadly with missing teeth. Looked like...

What is your favorite Gopher football memory?

Yes! I think it was thrown by George Kemp to John Wintermute. I remember Walter Bowser throwing a crushing block around midfield. Gophers up 20-16 halfway through the 4th quarter but too much OJ, He ran for about 240 that day. While it rained in the early going, Simpson got hit around the Gopher...

    New Clock Rule Passed

Wow, think of all the big leads the Gophers may not have quite been able to blow if the 1968 rule change hadn't happened!

STrib: Charge: Armed retired firefighter attacks, hurls racial slur at former Gophers running back, Tellis Redmon

John Cooper was something like 2-13 against Michigan but an OSU buddy told me that losing to the Gophers by 12 in Columbus was an indignity that also played a role in his firing at season's end.

STrib: Charge: Armed retired firefighter attacks, hurls racial slur at former Gophers running back, Tellis Redmon

Yes! It was a miserable, sticky South Florida night. In the 4th quarter there were still big holes through which to run, bet Redmon was just too tired to hit them on time. In a preview of a later Mason bowl collapse, the Gophers blew a 24-0 first half lead. Minnesota gave up a touchdown and...

Theathletic’s most overlooked B1G players in the draft (Mo is included)

Two items that draftniks look for in a back went unmentioned. The Gophers didn't utilize Mo much in the passing game, but he was good in his limited opportunities. Also he is a willing and able pass blocker. He does not, however have the school record for rushing yards in a game (Darkins- 294...

Bud Grant Video as a Philadelphia Eagle

I was trolling through some old 1950's NFL highlights on YouTube and found a tape that included 2 passes caught by "Harry" Grant. They can be found back-to-back at the 4:50 mark of a video called "1952 Pittsburgh Steelers". I loved those highlight films as a kid, complete with corny alliteration...
