If Fleck leaves, who should realistically be on Coyle’s immediate call list?

I don't think he would come, by my #1 would be Matt Campbell.

Would you support Coyle giving Fleck a raise and extension to keep him at MN?

My answer is different in mid-February than it would have been in December. If we were to lose a head coach at this point of the year, my vote would be to designate an interim and then be a little more patient in finding a coach. That has to figure in to how much effort would be made to keep...

    Who is Everyones Other Team?

My "other teams" vary from time-to-time. Lately, it has been Iowa State. It has been fun watching that team take down Iowa (multiple times), Texas, Oklahoma, etc. Their fans are not shy about storming the field; and I love that. My undergrad degree is from Western Kentucky, so I will always...

Max Brosmer is visiting the Twin Cities, spending Saturday with the Minnesota coaching staff

I think that was Kelly Leeks. I don't think he made it. I sent flowers (I really did - for those who know what I'm talking about).

How would you fix NIL/Portal if you ran the NCAA

I would institute some form of revenue sharing. Both within a team and within the sport in general. A RB is a high-profile member of the team and widely known. The players blocking for him are typically not so well known and unlikely to receive much NIL money. Often times, the running game...

With realignment and NIL, what are reasonable expectations going forward?

Here is my litmus test for a good season: Consistently beat the bottom 1/3 of the conference (this will change from time-to-time) but for the past couple of years it's been the likes of IU, MSU, Rutgers, Purdue, NU and UN). Compete (ie go 50/50) with the middle of the conference (Iowa...

SI: Gophers' PJ Fleck: Without NIL money, we can't keep team intact

I would buy this against "the big boys." But... I doubt that Northwestern, Illinois or Purdue are doing any better than us, so why make that argument in light of losses like these?

Who are our peers and how are we comparing?

As a long-time Gopher fan (I've been a season ticket holder since 1999) I always struggle with expectations. Obviously, I'd like the Gophers to have the kind of winning record and conference championships of a "helmet school." I just don't know if that will ever be in the cards, especially now...

Thumbs up or thumbs down...today is Athan's breakout game for 2023?

I think Illinois is dead last in pass defense in the B1G, so this would be a good day for Athan to shine.

    Expectations rest of season

25-year season ticket holder (and infrequent poster) here with my two cents: With the exceptions of the 15 +/- teams that are perennial top-25, every team has a bad year here and there. I have been satisfied with PJ and his teams since his arrival. On a Big Ten W/L perspective, his .500...

Glad to win, glad he’s done.

What a s****y way to start a thread. Tanner Morgan chose the University of Minnesota on blind faith without ever setting a foot on campus. He has given his everything to this team. IMO he essentially benched himself when he thought it was in the best interest of the team. In other words, he...

OFFICIAL: Minnesota vs Syracuse in Pinstripe Bowl

I think NYC would be cool. I'd like to be there over the holidays. The only thing I really dislike about this bowl is that it is not in a domed stadium. I sit through the 15' games at The Bank, Bowls are supposed to be a reward for the fans too, though, and the thought of spending $3,000+...

OFFICIAL: Minnesota vs Syracuse in Pinstripe Bowl

The fact is that there are a couple of lower tier B1G bowls: The bottom 4 being Pinstripe, Duke's Mayo (Charlotte), Guaranteed Rate (Phoenix) and Motor City. The bottom 3 or 4 conference bowl teams will always go to these bowls. We haven't been to the Pinstripe. Nine other B1G teams have...

Could next weeks Iowa game be the coldest game in recent memory?

It was a windy spitting sleet which, in my opinion, is much worse than snow.

Will Coyle do anything to help enhance home crowd advantage?

First, a little context: I have been a poster on Gopherhole since 2005 and a season ticket holder since 1999. I frequently opined on this board for a long time, but the negativity of the majority of posters after a loss (and even the ridiculous level of positivity after an undefeated...

Reasons for players with remaining eligibility to return

Why would Tanner Morgan not return? I guess some possible reasons might be: - to get on with his life (he got married within the past year, right?) - the fans/media in the Twin Cities have taken the joy out of football for him - he has physical issues that we are unaware of On the other hand...

    Iowa Rollcall

My wife and I will be at Saturday's game - sitting in the home team area :-( I think this will be our 7th straight year of going down there for the game. While it is disappointing to have seen so many losses at Kinnick, I do think the Gophers have been playing the Hawkeyes better in the last...

Rank the upsets in order of how likely (big ten west edition)

The upset I am looking for is Nebraska over Iowa on Black Friday (in what could be Scott Frost's last game). Although I'm not sure that will qualify as an "upset" when the time comes.

Confernce Realignment Chaos is Here!!!!!! (maybe ... probabbly not) (Rumor Texas and OK reach out to SEC about joining)

In addition to being a Minnesota alumnus, I am a graduate of Western Kentucky University. I am really worried that C-USA is going to turn out as the biggest Group of Five loser in realignment. The Hilltoppers had been in the Sun Belt (and in hindsight, should have stayed there). I REALLY...

Minnesota Vs. Nebraska 2021 - Media Predictions Thread

On the road, I would say this would be a loss. At home, though, the Gophers have won 53% of their Big Ten games (versus winning 35% of the road conference games). I also think that the early start always favors the home team. Just my two cents.
