They get a pretty good one back from Injury.
35%… streaky.. need a knock down shooter someone off the bench

Or a starter, even though I don’t think Coach P will bring anyone in that would start over her orginal five.35%… streaky.. need a knock down shooter someone off the bench
Has Coyle told Dawn P how much WBB will receive in revenue sharing (assuming the settlement is approved in April)? Hard to compete in the portal without knowing your budget.I can confirm the coaches are looking to fill THREE spots for next season. They have said they have 3 open scholarships. By my count that means a current player on the roster will enter the Portal.
They have stated two main targets are a backup PG and a Post (either starter-level or backup) for sure.
Any coach who wants to win would bring in a player better than her/his current starters. I remember Texas Tech taking on Sheryl Swoops when she wanted to transfer from Texas. The team chemistry was excellent even though some players received less recognition or playing time with Swoops' presence. The players wanted to win championships and playing with Swoops made them better. In two years, it paid off with the biggest prize.Or a starter, even though I don’t think Coach P will bring anyone in that would start over her orginal five.
They know. No schools are making it public. Guessing about 5% tops.Has Coyle told Dawn P how much WBB will receive in revenue sharing (assuming the settlement is approved in April)? Hard to compete in the portal without knowing your budget.
5% for WBB is what Georgia announced, but there has been speculation that strong volleyball schools might give less than 5% to WBB, especially with hockey (W & M) also to consider. Hard to see how the default formula announced by Georgia works at a place like Minnesota (or Wisconsin, which has allegedly told WBB coaching candidates to expect little rev share for WBB).They know. Yeah, some of those you mentioned are not going to get any. The south can be a lot different from Minnesota when it comes to treating women…..I realized this when I saw men’s practice facilities compared to the women’s or lack of women’s …..not saying it will be different but I think women in general women are valued more here in Minnesota.Yeah, some of those you mentioned are not going to get any. Don't know which.![]()
Looking to come home?Lilly Meister
Beat me to this one. Would like to see her come home.Lilly Meister
Maybe in some sports, but softball women have awesome facilities in the south. The south can be a lot different from Minnesota when it comes to treating women…..I realized this when I saw men’s practice facilities compared to the women’s or lack of women’s …..not saying it will be different but I think women in general women are valued more here in Minnesota.
Solid point.Maybe in some sports, but softball women have awesome facilities in the south.
The Hoosiers are the other team I follow most closely, and what happened with Meister playing from the bench for the second half of the season was interesting. She would be a great backup to Hart and can theoretically shoot the three (although not nearly as well as Stewart)!Beat me to this one. Would like to see her come home.
As long as there isn't a mass exodus, the Gophers are pretty good on shooters. Braun, Battle, Grocholski, Heyer, Johnson, McKinney, and maybe Christian are all credible 3 point shooters when they get open. Braun, Battle, and Woodson are very good in the midrange, and I've seen Grocholski working on it too. Then Braun, McKinney, Johnson, Grocholski, Heyer, and Hart have all shown they can be good at the rim as needed. I also liked what Niamya has been doing at the rim in the past few games. They've just got to put all the pieces together, make the shots, and maybe improve efficiency a bit, but there's plenty of scoring threats at a variety of levels. We need shooters.
Did I misread her stats? IU's whole team seems to be disintegrating a bit. Striplin, Moore-McNeil, and Parrish are all graduating and so far Meister, Bargesser, and LaMendola are in the portal. I wonder if Teri Moren is going to do what Michigan did this season and try an all new clean slate.
Bargesser is relatively okay on offense, but she has provided a huge spark off the bench for defense, so I'd kind of like to see her land in Minnesota for those moments where we need a big defensive boost.
I don’t know if I’d call Heyer and McKinney shooters. As long as there isn't a mass exodus, the Gophers are pretty good on shooters. At the beginning of the year, Meister looked like she might be ready to take a big step forward, but when Striplin asserted herself and took the starting the job, Meister regressed big time. Meister was pretty bad down the stretch this year. Confidence seems to have left her. Was very unimpressed with her watching her in person at the Big Ten tourney. Not surprised that she is looking for a reboot, but would tread carefully here. The flexibility that Stewart provided this year from 3 was great, and that is not Meister. She has 2 career 3s in Big Ten play.Beat me to this one. Would like to see her come home.

I like the optimism but did you see this team last year. Sorry this team did not beat a good team last year. I know about injuries but scoring was a big problem. Reading your description of this team i would think they are in the final 4. I hope they can find atleast two more scoring threads in the portal. As long as there isn't a mass exodus, the Gophers are pretty good on shooters. I'm sorry, but I attended most of the home games, and while the players you mentioned, outside of Braun and Woodson, may be good practice shooters, their in-game shooting and ability to create their own shots were lacking. As long as there isn't a mass exodus, the Gophers are pretty good on shooters. Yes, I did. They beat multiple good teams this year without their best player. It's hard to pick up the pieces when the player other teams focus most heavily on guarding is completely neutralized. They've done better this year at playing without Braun, and with her next year, more of the pieces will click. This team also started from rock bottom last year, with a bunch of freshman and some older players who played under a less than ideal coach and probably learned some bad habits. It's a huge undertaking to rebuild and reteach.I like the optimism but did you see this team last year. Sorry this team did not beat a good team last year.
The coaches probably aren't going to recruit what you would consider scoring threats. There just aren't a ton of gettable players floating around that are better than the group we've got, and even those that are gettable have their own imperfections. Seeing the decisions that were made in the portal last year, it seems like the coaches believe in their core set of players and just feel they need to tweak things a bit here and there with some targeted transfers who aren't super flashy.I hope they can find atleast two more scoring threads in the portal.
That's just dismissing a lot of the talent on the team! They currently have a field goal percentage of 43.6%, which puts them in the middle of the pack in the Big Ten and very close to some great teams. Illinois shot 43.4%, USC shot 44.4%, and Michigan State shot 44.3%.I'm sorry, but I attended most of the home games, and while the players you mentioned, outside of Braun and Woodson, may be good practice shooters, their in-game shooting and ability to create their own shots were lacking.
Dismantling a lot of talent on the team? I pull for this team and I like this team but the were 8-10 in big ten play. The 8 wins came against teams with a combined record of 34-92!! You say they had good wins? They beat two teams with a winning record in the big ten one 11-7 the other 10-8. Sorry but this team can use new faces. I don't want to gut the team and I think this team can improve but it was not a good team last year. That's just dismissing a lot of the talent on the team! Hart and Stewart both shot above 50% this season. Grocholski, Battle, and Heyer shot 40% over the season. Heyer, Battle, and McKinney have all shot about 30% from three as well. None of these are terrible numbers by any means, but there is always room for improvement. For a long span of the season, McKinney was shooting 50/40/90 splits as a freshman. It dipped as the season went on, but 50/40/90 is the cream of the crop for scoring! There is a lot to look forward to with this team as they learn and grow, even if it doesn't feel like it.
A take away from this could be that our 10th place shooting led to our place in the standings. I think we need better shooting and shot creation. It's actually about the same (43.6% vs 43.2%). Here it is against all opponents (sorted by FG%). We're about 12th.

And here it is against just Big Ten. We're 10th that way.
