  • WBB transfer portal window: Tuesday, March 25 - Wednesday, April 23
At that time, 91% of teams in both men's and women's basketball will have concluded their seasons.

There are also some exceptions to this year's transfer portal window. Student-athletes whose coach leaves the school will have an additionally 30 days to enter the portal, beginning the day after the coach's departure.

Additionally, student-athletes who will be graduate transfers can enter the transfer portal at any point during the academic calendar year, but must be entered by the final day of the transfer window.

Any ideas on who we might be targeting in the portal? I saw that Ronnie Porter out of Wisconsin entered, wonder if she would want to come back home?

With all due respect to Ronnie Porter (she's good), unless there's a significant loss to the portal, I think she'd be way down the depth chart as the Gophers have plenty of bigger guards with more potential.

I bet we'll get one or two solid post players in the portal. I really liked what Stewart added in being able to spread the floor. It's hard to come by, but hopefully we can get someone like her.

Serah Williams would also be great and I think the Hart/Williams combo each playing 20 minutes a game would be fantastic, but I think her sights are probably set way higher than Minnesota. Now, Carter McCray is probably more attainable and would be a great addition!

I'm sure there's one great player that's not on our radar at all that the coaches will pluck away, like they did with Alexsia Rose. Excited to see how it all shakes out!

Were not getting Serah Williams unless we have a donor coughing up 6 figures.

Yes, please!
6'6" similar frame as Hart, Sophomore.
Slower start in Conference play, but over last 10 games she average 15pts in 24min & had 5 double/doubles. Her doubles were against OSU, NU, ILL, WIS, and MICH. Doesn't shoot the 3, poor FT%, about 4 TO, stays out of foul trouble.
MN was the only team that kept her scoreless with 4 Reb.

I think she is worth looking at.

She also shot 67% from the field, which is significantly better than Hart (17 percentage points better).

Any thoughts on Gracie Merkle from Penn State?
I vote no. Another low-post plodder with no ability to space the floor is not what the Gophers need. With Braun returning, the Gophers should finally be able to play faster, especially when Hart is not on the floor. Would rather the other post options be a rim runner (Holloway) and a 3-point spacer (a la Stewart). A Hart-Merkle combination would not help the Gophers move up, IMO.

Agree here. Need to find another Stewart and an experienced PG

I believe another true low post with size is what the Gophers need… I left out ‘plodder’ because with all due respect I believe it is demeaning and unnecessary to make your point.
I was glad to have Steward this year, she contributed to whatever success we had this year.
The return of Braun and Woodson combined with a more experienced Tori and Johnson, and the added stability of Battle, Grace and Heyer will bring more offense. I believe Coach P looks to a patient and deliberate offense rather than rim-running.
Hart needs backup and to me another sizable low post is needed rather than one that can spread the floor... we have other players that can do that... Battle, Grace, and Woodson.

I would welcome Porter. She brings BigTen experience, averaging about 32 minutes in conference play. She averaged about 7 points, 4 rebs, and 2-3 TO. She doesn’t get to the line often, but averages 82% when she does. Not a 3 point threat… may have a steal or two.
During the two games with WI this year, I was glad when she wasn’t on the floor.
IMO Battle needs more time to rest and gather composure. I would rather Braun or Grace not have to run the point during that rest time.
I believe that Braun’s minutes should be limited, Porter can also help with that.
In the end, she brings BigTen experience, speed, minutes, some scoring, low TO’s, limited fouls, good FT percentage, a few assists and steals… who can ask for more… and she is from Minnesota.

Porter competes if she was on the roster this current season for instance the Gophers win at least one more game…

Surprised to see the love for Porter. Seems like exactly what the Gophers do not need, another PG a la Rose who kills the offense because she can't shoot from 3. Porter shot 16.7% from 3 this year against BIG competition, down from 23.3% the year before.

Even with Braun returning, and hopefully McKenna Johnson improving, the Gophers need help from 3. This year, the glaring problem on offense is 3-point offense. Against BIG opponents, the Gophers were 17th in the league in 3-pt fg%, and 14th in the league in 3-pt makes per game. And the Gophers lose their 2nd best in BIG play 3-pt shooter in Stewart. Conversely, the Gophers were good from 2, 5th in 2-pt fg% and 7th in 2-pt makes per game. So it makes sense to prioritize help from 3 in the portal.

Thanks for digging-out the numbers... perhaps you are right... I will think about it.

The transfer Portal opens up for everybody on March 25th. I would wait to see who all goes in. Like an example, if Kennedy Sanders at Colorado and from Chaska HS, played with Mallory in high school. She is strong, quick and a pass-first but capable scorer. I would take over 1000% over Porter.

Would “slow” be a better description than plodder?

I’ve been wanting this to happen for a while. Not sure it will, but would love it.
