This thread is pretty funny. First, for all those who couldn't fathom how he could pick Arkansas of all places over us, it isn't that hard to understand. He seems to have always wanted to go to the South (for whatever reason), their program is a middle-of-the-pack SEC team with lots of money for facilities, etc., there seems to be the prospect of early playing time, and their head & position coach have coached players who went on to the NFL and he seems to have developed good relationships with them. Different strokes for different folks and for various reasons he connected with Arkansas.

Secondly, for all those, including the normally level-headed Bob Loblaw, who are getting all upset because he called a press conference and invited everyone, I have one question for you: "Were you never a teenager?" I was, and I remember it a bit, and I remember basically thinking of me, myself, and I way too much. Entire classes and groups (anyone over 20 for the most part) didn't really even ever into my thoughts, except tangentially. Whether your talking about a teenager like Reid or Frank, it doesn't surprise me that they think the whole world is all about them, and think that everybody would naturally just want to come on down and listen to their oh-so-important choice of college and celebrate whatever they decide to do. And do you really blame them when you've got multiple news reports on it, and even here in the Hole a post with over 200 responses? Give the guy a break. Is he immature and does he lack self-awareness to do this? Yep and yep. But so was I as a teen and I bet just about all the posters here were too. Hopefully he'll grow out of it and realize the world isn't all about him. I wish him good luck.

This is level-headed and all. Yet why would you wish him luck, and why do you think he'd care if you wished him good luck or not? Just asking.

"They want me to play early and they want me to play center," he said. "I was nervous about it to start. It was a weird idea, but I'm excited about it after to talking to Coach Pittman. After talking to him, it sounds like a good idea."

http://recruiting.scout.com/2/13713...at C or G I'm much happier with Connor Mayes.

I think that having a press conference to announce that you are going to disappoint virtually everyone in your home state is off taste.

He knew that he would disappoint us the way he handled it especially with his selection to a "dirt bag" coach. His selection is a real shocker to me. He's not the guy who I thought he was.

Noticed the woopigsooie tweeters using the hashtag UnCommon when tweeting Frank, they jusy steal everything from us.

Maybe wish him good luck because he's a hard working MN kid who will represent the state well. I knew him personally a couple years ago - he's not cocky and has his head on straight. I don't understand all the hate on an 18 year old kid.

I'm only rooting against him in terms of football. I hope he gets his degree and that he stays healthy and all of that. I look at him like I'd look at a recruit who chose to go to WI. I can't bring myself to hope they have a successful football career however, I hope they turn into great people and all of that.

As far as them being young, I agree 100%. I am not on here saying that I Reid and Frank are awful people, but I think their egos got the best of them. They needed their own day and in doing so, they exercised poor judgment. It's absolutely a product of being a teenager.

http://recruiting.scout.com/2/13713...an lineman could play in the SEC effectively.

He is a teenager...but is he an orphan? Or do mommy and daddy like attention too? Bob is right. I have more respect for Brookins and Rucker and they went to hated rivals.

Don't kid yourself every high ranking player that leaves this state for somewhere else hurts. We had a 4* recruit at OT from Minnesota who left and we instead have two 2* o-lineman in his spot. Throw in where he has chosen to go really hurts.

Wish these guys could stop with all the drama. If you're not coming here, stop stringing us along.

But without stringing us along, not as many people would come to their press conference. It's all about them remember.

I don't wish Frank success at Arkansas. I hope he graduates and he gets his degree/coaster and that he doesn't get injured. However, I will not cheer for the kid. These press conferences to announce that you're leaving your own state are in really poor taste. It's the same reason that I'll root for Tyus but I will not root for Reid. It's ego out-of-control.

Arkansas likes hiring complete jerks, so it'll probably go from Petrino to BB to Lane Kiffin. He'll have fun finishing his career playing for him and by that time he can have another press conference to announce his return to Minnesota. He'll need it, none of us will care.

Tyus had a press conference did he not? Pretty sure it was on ESPN...

I 100% guarantee he was seriously considering MN in the last few weeks.

Agree!

I'll see ya at the Jeff Jones press conference?

I've never been to a recruiting press conference. I see that you're dodging your last incredibly dumb post.

I know that you'd like to think that my disdain for these kinds of things comes from some fanboy obsession and I'm sure that's easier for you than having an intelligent discussion on the subject. However, I've defended countless MN guys for leaving the state. I defended Jerry Gibson for (likely) flipping to South Carolina. So I understand that the discussion is over your head a bit, but I'm not a fanboy. I wouldn't go to his press conference or Jeff Jones.

So you just keep being wrong all day, you seem to like it.

True that. How did the crowd react? A standing O, or, more expectedly, the polite clap?

Joe Perovich @JoePerovichGI
Ragnow was cheered heavily when he made the decision. More Ragnow fans than #Gophers fans. How it should be.

Could you give us a list of those you are and are not cheering for?

Wow, last Feb. who would have thought our dream instate o line recruits would be poached away by Bama and Arkansas. Losing Jones would be killer.

And it could happen because these kids are celebrities, prima donnas, and they lack the loyalty to state and community that players at that level once had.

I 100% guarantee ... was seriously considering ... in the last few weeks.

It's not you, it's me! You're a great person, and I'm sure the right one will come along!

(Sorry! It was right there, I couldn't help myself!)

Yep, but he had the brains to eliminate the Gophers prior to the conference. The truth is that a Frank Ragnow press conference would have had zero interest if he was choosing between Arkansas and Ole Miss. I'm not saying he used the Gophers and I'm not ripping on him as a player (he's a heck of a player). Tyus Jones had a press conference and he was choosing between Baylor, Duke and Kansas.

Step out of your igloos and take a deep breath
And stop hating on arkansas. After all, both got Holtzed

Besides, we are undefeated when going against the Hogs.

When is the last time either team:

Finished top 5 in conference?
Finished top 25 in the AP poll?
Finished top 25 in any poll?
Went to a BCS bowl?

Who has had more 10 win seasons in the past 20 years?

If you can't understand why he chose Arkansas, you're just being dense. I wish he would've stayed here, but the Gophers have been in the B1G's toilet for most of 4 decades. One 8 win season and a horrible bowl performance wasn't enough yo convince him that we're on the right track. It wouldn't convince me either if I had to make such an important life choice.

You list how many of us have never seen the Gophers win a B1G title. How about those Arkansas fans that have never seen them win an SEC title?

If those you listed above are the criteria, why isn't he accepting his scholarship offer from Florida State, Ohio State, Miami, Nebraska, etc?

Those four schools have Arkansas in tradition, success, and are almost in or near the top 25. Arkansas doesn't compete in those categories.

I never once suggested Minnesota was a better football program. I'm also not questioning his decision to leave the state for his collegiate career, I'm just wondering why he picked Arkansas of all places.

From now on if a local recruit sets up an announcement and invites the public to attend, I'm just going to assume they aren't picking the U. Crazy that this has happened twice in the past couple of months.

Meh...repeating what I have said twice before...would have loved to have him but not a huge loss. He isn't a top 100 type recruit at a position of need. Still more excited about the two recent WR commits, JJ & the potential commits left on our board.

If Arkansas is promising early playing time at center and that is his path to the NFL, best of luck, I won't be watching regardless unless he gets drafted by the Vikes in a few years.

Quick, who from the local media can be blame for tainting the U in the eyes of recruits???

Maximus, just go away. You're here to be a pain, and nothing else.
