Nolen - Surgery Wednesday

Broken foot says Tubby, per Myron and Marcus.

We may have seen the last of him on the court for the Gophers. But, could be as little as a few weeks.

Myron says Nolen broke his foot Saturday night, will miss at least four weeks. May not return this season. Will have surgery on Wednesday, return timetable to be determined after that.

Ouch.

Al Nolen has broken foot, may be out for season.

Via Myron's tweets, Al broke his foot on Saturday and will have surgery on Wednesday. Could miss the entire season if his recovery is slow. Just awful news.

When will the Bad Karma Train get the hell out of town??? Just terrible news for Al and our Gophers. Time for the young kids to step up if you're listening Chip and Mav!

Slim Tubby - Nausea Monday

As if Mondays aren't bad enough already... :(

Does anyone here have any idea why a Hall of Fame coach - let's call him Tubby - might want to play lots of guys early in the season, even if they are freshmen and at times overmatched?

Imagine where we would be right now if Chip, Mav and Austin had been given only token minutes.

That said; heal fast Al.

Al

Best of luck Al.

Lots of Gopher fans will be pulling for you.

Honestly, is every single sports venue in Minnesota built on Indian burial ground or something? Why does this *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# always happen to us?

As someone who wishes to have 25% Mdewakanton Sioux blood, I am wishing to be 25% offended by that comment.

Haha wow, you can only laugh at this stuff seriously. You can't make this ish up....

We have 8 scholly players....sad.

Devoe Joseph - you knucklehead. This is just another reason why you never quit midseason- even if you are unhappy.

The only positive in this is Tubby gets a clear look at where his is at for recruiting. Does he need a guard or not? Chip and Mav will supply some answers.

Devoe comes out of this looking like a complete and total moron. Once again, he selfishly screws his team and (supposed) friends over because of his own ambitions, and it turns out those selfish ambitions would have been met if he would have just stuck around and been a team player. Plus, now he'll have to sit out a couple of years, play for one year at a bottom-dwelling team, and forever have a rep as a selfish loser. Granted, we probably don't know the whole background, but I can't think of a single way in which this was a good decision for him. Hopefully this is a good lesson for kids everywhere. If you're selfish, egotistical, and a turncoat, it'll turn around and bite you, sooner rather than later. Also, let's not forget J. Cobbs. What a pair of idiots. Even Allen has to be regretting his decision.

How the heck does a turned ankle turn into a broken foot? I swear it didn't look that severe.

Once again f*ck devoe judas joseph, Minnesota is cursed.

Well, he'd had stress fractures on that foot, and he'd been logging a lot of tough minutes. I think people were just hoping against hope that it was just an ankle, although Nolen was on twitter soon after talking about his foot.

Lets not forget....poor Al. Sucks to see guys like him and Mo go down, they want to be out there more than we want them to!

Gopher Jake- I don't recall -for the most part - posters asking Tubby not to play the frosh. I think what most complained about was the idea of tossing them all out there together.

I hear ya, bga. You are right, that has been the most prominent complaint this year, especially of late - and there is validity to it.

BUT. I have heard over the years, particularly in the pre-conference season, including again this year, complaints that Tubby's bench is too long, he should give more minutes to the core players, etc., etc.

Haven't you?

4 weeks on the nose. ...

would be February 19. Would have Al back for the last 4 regular-season games. ... Sparty, Michigan, at Northwestern & Penn State. I'll predict we have him back for the game at Penn State on Feb. 17, just under 4 weeks.

I don't know, I'd be shocked if we saw Al back within a month. I'm no doctor, but I can't remember a player with a broken foot returning that fast and being effective. Let's hope I'm wrong.

Mav is going to grow up real quick. I guess we'll see point guard by committee the rest of the season. I expect we'll see Hoff at the point many times. I know Chip isn't a PG, but he may be forced to carry the duties in brief spells.

I have heard that- yes. Good point.

Most of all this sucks for Al and I feel bad for him. And it surely sucks for the team and fans too.

Obviously a sad day for Al for sure. Sorry to see his last two seasons go the route they did, but there's a chance he comes back. This gives the freshmen a chance to be men. Time to grow up and show your chops if you have them. Our advantage is down low against every single team. That hasn't changed. We still need to pound the paint and out-rebound everyone. We still need Blake to be that counter-punch with 3's and the midrang floater he's been canning the last 3 games. We need Rodney Williams to finally show why's he a rumored NBA 1st round pick. Not the athleticism, but the outside shooting he'll need to show NBA scouts. Don't write the team off yet, they have a chance to develop...

Let's see if I can summarize prevailing GH sentiment: Nolen quits the team last year by failing to maintain his academics. Joseph steps up and proves to be easily the better basketball player, and the team plays better with Nolen gone. Joseph is the team's best player on the Canada trip this past fall. For some unknown reason, Joseph is suspended later this season, does his time, comes back, and finds the inferior player, who quit on the team last year and is injured this year, taking his minutes. When the inferior, injured player plays a terrible game to start the conference season, it results in even more minutes the next game for the inferior player. Joseph decides to go somewhere else to play, and the folks here can't understand why.

Now that the inferior player is injured, folks here bemoan the fact Joseph left.

Unbelievable. This problem is Tubby's fault, not Joseph's. Had he let the better player play, the team wouldn't be in this situation.

Good luck with the Ahanmisi thing. Sometimes you get what you deserve.
