All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings Off-Season Thread

Shama chimes in:

There is a possibility the NFL will suspend star wide receiver Jordan Addison for multiple games during the 2025 season. The impact on the outcome of those games could be significant for a team with Super Bowl ambitions.

Addison was arrested last July by the California Highway Patrol on suspicion of driving under the influence. His car was reportedly found blocking traffic on I-105 near Los Angeles International Airport while he was asleep in the driver’s seat.

The NFL is waiting for the legal process to proceed before issuing a possible sanction that could be a three-game suspension. Jordan has pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor charges stemming from his arrest.

Fox 9 reported last week Jordan had a pre-trial hearing on March 12 in Los Angeles County Superior Court and that a pre-trial conference date is set for April 10. When the legal process concludes the NFL will decide if Addison has violated the league substance abuse policy.

This isn’t Addison’s first road incident as a Viking. In 2023 he was cited for speeding and reckless driving at 140 MPH on Interstate 94 in St. Paul. He later pled guilty to a misdemeanor speeding charge, $686 fine and had his license suspended for six months.

In two seasons Addison has proven his high value to an offense that is the envy of many rival teams. He’s an exceptional complement to superstar wide receiver and teammate Justin Jefferson.

Addison has been both durable and productive. He has played in 32 of 34 regular season games. He has 1,786 career receiving yards and 19 touchdowns while averaging an impressive 13.4 yards per reception.

Skol Vikes!!

Just disturbing. Did we learn absolutely nothing from Henry Ruggs just a couple years ago? Still makes most southern Nevadans sick to their stomach, the young woman and her dog that Ruggs killed while going around 120mph, intoxicated, on a city street in Las Vegas a couple years ago. There's just absolutely no excuse. None at all.

well said. these dudes make so damn much money, I don't understand how its not almost compulsory advice from leagues that they hire an "attendant" type person who is responsible for driving them/arranging rides, keeping them off social media in stupid ways, etc. but I guess that feeling of invincibility really gets to people.

I can absolutely live with this move, if that's the way they want to go. A great option for the Vikings, some tread left on the tires (after not playing last year) and likely a good mentor for JJM. Consistently at or over 7.0 Yards per Attempt in his career, he can throw the ball from the pocket and throw the ball down field.

Hard not to get goosebumps watching a few of these home runs. Damn....

Jameis Winston to the Giants. I'd much rather have him than Tannehill.

Not me. Watched him too many times with the Bucs. He can't help himself from giving the ball to the other team. Don't think you can coach that out of him.

Agree for most part but I do think he will now sign with Steelers if he really wants to play and therefore unavailable should things go south with JJ.
Think we'll know his intentions by the draft.
The Steelers are really playing "hardball" with Rodgers, apparently setting a deadline of April 21, the Monday before the Draft.

Still hope out there that the Circus comes to Eagan.

I apologize for not having the details (I'm sure it's easy enough to look up) but from what I gather, they were given high marks this last week by some merely because they handled the FA signings without impacting our Comp pick situation; signings coming in can offset the people walking out the door.

Alec Lewis at The Athletic does a good job of referencing this situation with Comp picks when it comes to the Vikings pursuit of a backup QB:

"Why have the Vikings not added a veteran quarterback? One likely explanation is the team’s pursuit of multiple compensatory draft picks in 2026. If the Vikings sign a quarterback to a large enough salary, they could lose one of those extra picks.

Following the NFL Draft, however, signings no longer factor into the compensatory pick formula. So, the Vikings could be waiting. They could always acquire a potential backup quarterback via trade or sign one to a lesser deal.

A player like Ryan Tannehill, who has the same agent as McCarthy, might prefer a more sizable deal than, say, a Drew Lock. Joe Flacco’s market also might rise to the level of eliminating the Vikings’ compensatory advantage. Adofo-Mensah highlighted these dynamics as part of an answer about adding another QB.

Of course, waiting more than a month also gives the Vikings more time to evaluate McCarthy’s progress
."

This is really interesting! Maybe they are waiting then (not saying they're waiting for you knew who).

Thanks for sharing this

Then there is this other idea that QBs and agents know they have the vikes over a barrel and are coming to vikes with brutal offers.

If he doesn't sign with Steelers and doesn't announce retirement, he basically has to be hoping that JJ tweaks his injury during the spring.

I caught KFAN this morning playing Kwesi's clips from yesterday where he was asked about it and while he didn't technically shut the door it certainly seems like he's hoping that he signs with the Steelers and takes it off the table.

Maybe wants no part of OTAs?

Regarding qb2, the ideal would be to bring in Rodgers.

However Vikes would have to first be sure Rodgers is good with operating in a supportive role.

Would certainly be nice to have Rodgers in the vike's back pocket should JJ show he's not quite ready or get injured.

Rodgers isn't going anywhere to be the back-up QB.

The only way bringing him in makes any sense is of McCarthy gets hurt again or looks absolutely awful. In which case you are basically bailing on the McCarthy era and going back to being a QB home for old QB's.

Vikings team is kind of ready to go. If JJ misses the season due to health or maybe just obviously need more seasoning, you wouldnt want Rodgers to step in?

Not me. I do not want Aaron Rodgers anywhere near Minnesota period. We need to stop with the Rodgers stuffs. Vikings need to move on from Rodgers.

Vikings are a better team with JJ McCarthy as the number 1 QB not Aaron Rodgers.

I would rather they'd been more aggressive in getting a better backup like Jameis Winston. But there's no reason to think McCarthy won't be healthy or will be terrible. They just need a good backup. Rodgers is not an option for that role.

For sure. We all hope JJ flourishes.

But what if he misses the year due to injury again or needs more seasoning. Both of which are possible.
You would be on board with Rodgers then, right?

Takes 2 to tango. Rodgers will not sign here unless he is guaranteed starting job and Vikes not going to do that. If something bad happens to JJ and Rodgers is still available, then they could try to sign him.
