All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings Off-Season Thread

All of that can be true.

John Bonnes, local Twins media guy who has his own pod and appears on kfan, tweeted that if Vikes do bring in Rodgers that he will hope Vikes don't win the Super bowl. A bunch of people posted agreement with him.

If Rodgers opens the season as our starting QB, u will still cheer for the Vikes to have an epic season and win the Super bowl, right?

He's no longer mobile, his arm strength has abated and throws a ton of his passes off his back foot due to his injuries. He'll also have our entire OL sitting in a sweat shack in Nepal smoking peyote for enlightenment.

The media attention would be fun but the guy is just a douche. Maybe Ogee can dig up the Vikings' SB odds with JJM versus Rodgers.

Glad to have you back, too.

Your first sentence. Yes, that is the question. Does Rodgers have anything left. He will be 42 in December. Would he be able to perform at a high level thru 17 NFL games and a potential deep playoff run.
KOC and Kwesi realize the huge risk of bringing back Rodgers. Would think they would only do it if it is clearly the best path in their minds.

Maybe JJ's health still an issue?

Also, have to acknowledge it is definitely a risk to give a 22 yr old with zero NFL experience the keys to an nfl car that is all souped up and ready to roll. Is such a thing even best for JJ's career?

All said, I think smart money is heavily on JJ as our qb1 opening day. His maturity does seem beyond his yrs which is a big plus for him. Fun talker though 🙂

2009 Favre helped get the Vikings a play shy of the Super Bowl.

2010 Favre helped get the Head Coach canned mid-season.

Which version of 2025 Rodgers more resemble? Of course part of the equation is whether or not JJM is any better than T Jackson.
Unless some valid reason is given, I assume the first year of Rodgers is equivalent to the first year of Favre.

I'll be ready for McCarthy in 2026 to start, no matter what.

That’s exactly what he would be at this point. His mobility is gone. Sure he can play with his brain but his biggest strength was scrambling/play extension. His arm is nowhere near what it used to be and he will want to audible as he always does. It’s a horrible match for a ton of reasons.

It’s JJ and a guy like Keenuk, wentz, lock, etc in terms of caliber. If it turns out JJ doesn’t have it, you’re drafting next year again. You don’t stunt another year of a rookie deal for a half broken Rodgers

The team is qb proof right now
and you don’t need JJ to be a hero. He just needs to hit the things when they’re there and that’s EXACTLY what KOC is your coach to do and has done with the likes of Darnold, Mullens, and the passtronaut in the past
Bolded: ain't no such thing, my friend

It would be...interesting, to say the least.

Personally, I don't think Rodgers has had a decent season since his second to last with Green Bay. That's more than 3 years ago, even before the torn Achilles.
Then McCarthy beats him out and starts this year. And gains an excellent on-field mentor while KOC focuses on running the game.

No loss detected

How are we able to keep adding good players to our roster like this? I know we had cap space but this is getting ridiculous. In a good way. 🙂

Still, at some point bills come due. I get that the salary cap goes up every year but seems like we are going nuts here compared to other teams. Have to wonder if we are taking on long term pain for short term gain?
Very, very, very much a thing of: win NOW.

If we can get to the SB (and obviously, please please please win it), then anything and everything is worth it.

Didnt answer my question. Well, actually you did I suppose.

Guess I will be good with whatever KOC and Kwesi arrive at with this decision.
My guess is they go with JJ. Either way an exciting time to be a purple fan.
Bolded: correct.

It's a no lose situation, either way! I think only really bitter people see it differently. They need to get over it :)

Such a silly take. There have been far worse human beings that have played for the Vikings. No, I'm not a Rodgers fan but would have no problems cheering for him if he came here.

Sure. But I can understand if others, media or not, don't.

That's massive assumption. Rodgers is 2 years older (than Favre was in 2009) and hasn't put together a decent season in 3 years.

Has any other QB in their 40s led their team to a SB other than TB12? Brady did it twice, but I think he's a unicorn. Also he got 7 SBs before he turned 40 compared to Rodgers 1.

Ultimately, Favre couldn't do it either.

(*IF the money works and he agrees to come on terms that Vikings organization and KOC can live with)

I just don't see a possible downside.

If he (Rodgers) gets hurt: then McCarthy goes in. Great
If he plays awesome and we win: Great - McCarthy starts in 2026. Great
Rodgers mentors McCarthy, regardless, getting him ready for 2026. Great

What am I missing??

Ok. Cross RB off the list for our first rounder. Will be either dl or cb. Good!

Not sure which way I'd rather go. My first instinct is keep building up the trenches and go dl, but Rogers/Blackmon would probly not be considered a strength as cb2 at this point as well.
Just take the best available player

I didn't like Favre, the football player, simply because he was a Packer but he was so much fun to watch regardless. It was easy to cheer for him when he came to the Vikings.

I don't like Rodgers on or off the football field but if KOC feels he gives us the best chance to win this year, so be it. No team in the NFL would get more media coverage all year than the Vikings.

JJM hasn't taken a single snap in the NFL but I'm still not convinced Rodgers would be better in 2025 based purely on his QB play the last 2-3 years.

I continue to give KAM huge props for what he's done building our roster through FA and trades so I'll trust they make the right choice.

I guess I'll add one thing, because this is the way I see it and that opinion seems to be in stark contrast to what's being bandied about here.

There could certainly be a competition for the starting gig in August, but I guess I'm looking at this as the Vikings consideration towards signing Rodgers would likely to be the backup to JJM.

Maybe I'm wrong, but that's the way I see it shaking out, and as a backup, I am fine with it.

I saw a great brief summary on this in one of the comments in The Athletic;

The Vikings basically traded Ed Ingram (dealt for a 6th) for Jordan Mason. Great, great deal for the Vikings, on both fronts.

Front Office keeps crushing it this offseason.

EDIT: And I still think they draft an RB in the middle of this year's draft.

If anything is positively known, it's that Rodgers is not the mentor type.

People who have actually worked with him say that is not the case and that he is good with young QBs.

Rodgers still isn't coming here. It's JJM's team, and they're not going to have the Rodgers media hoopla affect that.

Rodgers brings a media circus.

He gets slightly unhappy and leaks stuff to the media causing distractions.

Rodgers does his thing by demanding to play with some buddies, skips camps because he doesn't think he needs to be there, or goes on some TV show and says something crazy, which brings unwanted attention.

He'll also be a year older and could be cooked.

What could possibly go right?
