All Things 2023 Minnesota Vikings Off-Season Thread

twitter buzz today that the 49ers are listening to trade offers for Lance.

if the Vikes had more picks available, I would be interested in seeing if they could pick up Lance for a 2nd or 3rd-round pick. but given the lack of picks and the number of holes to fill, that's probably not going to happen.

Hey, I'm biased. I watched him play in HS. but if nothing else, I think Lance would make a lot better backup QB than some of the stiffs the Vikes have rolled out in recent years.
Hunter for Lance and a 3rd round pick. Or Cousins for Lance and a 2nd rounder.

That seems a little close minded as Ryan Day has only been HC at Ohio St since 2019, and part of the staff since 2017.

Before Day's arrival they at least identified and had Joe Burrow as a Buckeye from 2015-17 before he went to LSU.
I'll bet against Stroud. He's nothing special.

Perhaps, but that's a pretty small price to give up, if Hunter is only marginally worth a 1st round pick alone.

Word is the 49ers are higher on Lance than most people think, but that could just be a smoke screen to drive up the price if they wanted to move him.

They gave up what, 2 first rounders, swap of another 1st, and a 3rd to get Lance? And now they want to dump him before he even really plays? That tells you all you really need to know. It's the 49ers version of the Gobert trade except Gobert was actually a proven, great NBA player on the downside of his career.

If Vikings gave up anything more than a 6th or 7th rounder for him, it's a terrible deal and KAM should be fired on the spot.

That the “rumors” are strategic disinformation?

The 49'ers are in win now mode and Lance is already going into season 3. If they're going to get anything for him, they pretty much have to trade him now. Whether or not they're "ready to dump him" the timing and his injuries pretty much force their hand.

Lance has bust written all over him IMO. He's only started 20 games beyond high school.

There is nobody calling the 49ers about the availability of Trey Lance.

This is a paid advertisement by John Lynch of the 49ers, alerting the entire NFL that they will listen to offers for Lance. Who in the world is trading for Lance? What's he worth, a 6th round pick, maybe? What NFL tape is anyone watching that is prompting them to pick up the phone and make that call?

A laughable propaganda effort by the 49ers to drum up Lance interest. They've got Purdy who is more than likely the starter, and they signed Sam Darnold. Does this indicate to anyone that Lance is part of the 49ers long term plans?

Question. If it was possible right now to trade our entire 2022 draft for Christian Watson, would you do it?

I'd rather have Kyle Hamilton, who we could have had at pick 12.

Absolutely not. Not even close. Shit, on a team with a horrendous defense last year, they could come away with 4 defensive starters (Cine, Booth, Asamoah, Evans), and another contributor in Otomewo. And I'm still not ruling out Ed Ingram being a strong addition at OG, and Ty Chandler contributing in the backfield.

Not looking good for any of the 2022 draft players at this point. I assume you blame their lack of production on donatell?
Personally, I feel Kwesi bombed last yrs draft. I would trade our whole draft for Watson in a heartbeat.
But time will tell, hopefully our guys step it up this season.

I wouldn't. I'm not 100% sold on Watson though.

They weren't in win now mode when they went to the NFC Championship the year they drafted him? If Lance was a franchise QB, SF wouldn't be trying to dump him at 22 years old.

If you could guarntee he'd stay healthy, I would in a second.

He's a pro bowl player if healthy. I just don't know if he does stay healthy.

I can't fathom any of our draftees coming close to that.

Hopefully, I eat my own words.

Interesting piece on the QB's in this draft and the relatively new S2 Cognitive Test I've been hearing about lately.

CJ Stroud and Other QB Prospects Score On S2 Cognitive Test

Not that this test is the be-all end-all indicator but I just never thought this crop of QBs would go as high as some of the "experts" have been saying.

Some of these players have some really high caliber PR campaigns doing everything they can to push up the draft stock of these QBs, I just never understood it.

Young is small, but he's the best of the bunch by far. The rest of this class stinks. It's like teams are trying to convince themselves these QBs are good, like they did with Lance and Wilson 2 years ago.

This should tell you all you need to know;

Two people very high up in the 49ers association during Lance's time in San Francisco left this offseason to other NFL franchises that both need starting QB's; Ran Carthon took the Assistant GM job in Tennessee and DeMeco Ryans took the HC gig in Houston.

Neither of those guys are beating down the 49ers door to acquire Trey Lance.

I'm not even sure its the teams trying to convince themselves of anything. It's the "worldwide leader" and the agents that are pushing this hard and heavy.

Yep gotta stay healthy.
I think Kwesi blew the draft. Think it was arrogant of him to go against long time NFL thought and trade in the division. Yet for some reason local media still sees him as a next level thinker.

Will be very happy if I'm wrong. But I have very little hope for Booth or Evans. Feel like Cine and Aasamoah do have outside shots at being solid contributors. Nailor had a few moments so possibly? Ingram gave up more qb pressures than any guard in the league so a lot improvement needed.

That's possible, there was some of that last year then most of the QBs dropped significantly. Besides Young, I think several QBs will still go before where Pickett was drafted last year.
