Oof!

Tuscaloosa police testified Tuesday that star Alabama freshman Brandon Miller delivered the gun used in a shooting that killed Jamea Harris on Jan. 15.

Former Alabama player Darius Miles and another man, Michael Davis, are facing capital murder charges for the shooting. Miles was removed from the team after he was arrested. Davis is accused of shooting Harris while Miles has admitted in court records to giving Davis the gun for the shooting.

Miller has not been charged with a crime for allegedly bringing Miles the gun. Miller has played in all 27 games for No. 2 Alabama and is the team’s leading scorer with nearly 19 points per game. He’s projected to be a likely lottery pick in the 2023 NBA draft.

Per Al.com, police said in a preliminary hearing that Miles sent Miller a text message to bring Miles' gun to where the shooting took place. Miller’s car was hit twice by gunfire during the shooting.

Miles texted Miller to bring his gun to where they were, according to police.
When Miller got to the scene, Miles told Davis, “The heat is in the hat.” Det. Brandon Culpepper said that meant a gun was present.
Miles added, “There’s one in the head.” That, Culpepper said, meant a round was in the chamber.
Miles moved his girlfriend back to get her out of line of fire, Culpepper added.
The Tuscaloosa police chief told Al.com that Miller isn’t facing charges because “there’s nothing we could charge him with according to the law.”

Alabama coach Nate Oats was asked about the police testimony Tuesday and said that Alabama's basketball program had known about Miller's alleged presence since the shooting happened and had cooperated with police.

“It’s sad. We knew about that — can’t control everything anybody does outside of practice," Oats said. "Nobody knew that was going to happen. College kids are out, Brandon hasn’t been in any type of trouble or is in any type of trouble in this case. Wrong spot at the wrong time.”

As I said in other thread. Oats needs his ass kicked.

What a complete dirtbag. Should not be coaching.

Complete rationalization to keep a star on the team. No crime perhaps, but he had to know something was happening when he was asked to deliver the heat. This is not a paragon of either virtue or common sense.

Pretty sure Clem had a player named Whaley from Detroit in the 80s caught with a gun and some crime less than murder and was quickly on a bus back to Detroit before the end of his freshman year. Times have changed.

Yup and thats why Oats comments were nuts and completely ignorant and insensitive to what happened to the woman.

Is Miller chargeable by law? Doesnt appear so.

But willingly showing up to an altercation. Bringing the weapon. Staying there while your car gets riddled, thats more than "wrong place wrong time".

Wrong place wrong time is if I'm hanging out with you and out of nowhere you get in a argument with someone and pull out a gun all on your own as I witness. That was not this, and Oats is a clown.

I was hoping Pitino would have been fired sooner and Nate Oats would be the guy to replace him.

Turns out Oats may not have been a good hire after all. 🤷‍♂️

Been told right here on GH that Oats was a great guy and great coach. Just like Beard.

BUILTBADGERS guys. BOTH of them.

man its such a bad look.....was it a crime no....but the way Oats stated wrong place wrong time is something you cannot say if the dude brought the damn gun and gave it to the shooters.....

the school or somebody needs to do something

Oats is completely wrong and shows that winning at any cost is his mantra.
There would not have been a murder of an innocent woman who simply told a guy to leave her alone if Miller had not supplied the murder weapon.
It is very difficult for me to belive that the DA cannot find that Miller was an acessary to a murder.
Miller plans on going to the NBA next year.
I hope the all the NBA teams avoid him like the plague.

So - if I sell someone a gun without proper paperwork, background check and waiting period I may be in violation of the law. But, if I just give him a gun . . .

The gun belonged to the shooter who asked Miller to bring it to him.
Miller complied and a woman is dead.

I am actually surprised there is nothing they can charge him with as well, seems like there would be something but I am not a legal expert so must not be.

My guess is that if Alabama was having a bad year the coach might have viewed this situation differently but because they are having a great year he is going to do everything in his power to make sure he keeps his star player on the court.

Wrong place, wrong time would be laughable if someone didn't end up dead because he decided to bring his buddy a gun.

He has already released a statement trying to do damage control from this press conference bit. I'm not a body language expert but just watching him you can tell he doesn't believe a word he is saying the way he is fidgeting around and looking down.

Do I get props for calling Oats out as a weasel? Post 55.

AND Miller played a game two days after this happened.

Can someone explain the rationale as to why a person who is months away from becoming a multi millionaire would do something like this let alone have a gun in his possession as a freshmen in college?

Can you be any DUMBER!!!!

No wonder so many of these athletes think they can do anything they want. No consequences for their behavior!

Also what about the provenance of the gun?

Is that a legal weapon (abiding by the gun laws of Alabama)? Did Miller have a right to possess the weapon in first place?

I'm not sure how the law works but being that he was never found with the weapon on him and said he had it at one point it probably isn't a crime. Same as saying you used drugs in the past can't get you picked up for drug charges.
