All Things 2022 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

This is why I’ve never been a fan of the 3-4. I suppose it makes a difference on your personnel. If Khalil Mack or Von Miller is out there I feel a bit better, but still not ideal. Hunter is a prototypical 4-3 DE. Square peg, round hole. If the 3-4 stays, Hunter shouldn’t be back.
If it was a 4-3, would we have had an OLB on him? Still seems like a mismatch? Should be a nickle or dime corner.

I've never seen a game suspended like this before. Pretty crazy. Hope that Hamlin is alright....but the response is not positive.

At this point I can't see any scenario where they finish this game tonight, especially the buffalo players, there's no way you can go out and play a game after seeing that

Definitely. Game should (and probably will) be cancelled.

Only thing that could maybe change that, is if Hamlin was well enough to send a personal video telling the players to continue on.

This sucks

While it happened at practice, it makes me think back to Korey Stringer.

The players need time for their mental health IMO. If you ever seen something on that level in person, you need time to process it, in my experience.

It’s only a game.

The NFL will get roasted if they reschedule it and rightfully so IMO.

You're correct that everything seemed to go their way yesterday.

Still, I don't want a first round exit and the Packers are going to be one of the most dangerous teams heading into the playoffs short of some major injuries. Almost the exact same thing happened when they won the Superbowl in the 2010 season. Won three playoff games on the road to get there.

Give me the Giants in the WC round, all day. Pack will beat 9ers and then the match you think is no big deal will happen in the Divisional round at USBS. Then we'll see
If that were to happen, the Vikings would not play the Packers but instead the winner of the 4/5 game. They reseed after each round.

EDIT - Apologies, I saw this was addressed in later posts.

And Vikings ran a play with 10 men on defense. Ed Donatell can’t be fired soon enough.
Tremendous achievement to allow a 3rd Down conversion with only 10 men on the field and later get flagged for playing with 12.

I do not think there is a NFL Rules provision that allows to just "average" 11 defenders each play.

No but imagine the strategery if they did! Ed D is a visionary ahead of his time.

That's fine, it is my bad that I didn't know that or forgot it.

Is there any other sports league that "re-seeds" its championship bracket, like that?? You can certainly argue that football is somewhat unique in having single games instead of series, but that's also true in the World Cup that we just witnessed. And the College Football Playoff likely will not do that after each round.

I think it's kinda silly that the NFL does this. But, of course, it's all for TV ratings and money.

Didn't the team already fly back yesterday, except a few players that wanted to stay behind with him?

No chance they reschedule. On to the last week. They'll figure it out.

Maybe the fairest thing to do is award each team a tie?

The NHL does not reseed currently, but has in the past.

For the NFL I kind of like the reseeding. It rewards the top seeds with more home games against in theory weaker opponents, thus makes the regular season more important.

I think the 1 game aspect with every round essentially played within a 48 hour time frame, lends itself to the reseed format.

NBA even starts another round sometimes when the previous is not even concluded.

Fair enough.

I think they should freeze the bracket from inception. #3 is "supposed" to play #2, and #1 is "supposed" to play #4, in the second round. It's not anyone's fault that #7 happened to upset #2 but #5 did not upset #4. So I disagree that #1 should get to steal away #7 from #3.

But again, TV ratings is all that matters to the NFL.

Yup they flew back after midnight.

I like your tie suggestion 👍

#5 beating #4 would have no impact on the seedings as they are both squarely in the middle.

I'm not following the TV ratings insinuation. They are seeded 1-4 based on Division Winners overall records and then Wild Cards 5-7, best remaining records overall. They are not seeded based on TV market and/or fan following.

Upsets could just as easily produce matchups of teams from less impactful TV markets or ratings draws.

After the 1st weekend the NFL reseeds which rewards the teams based on merit. I don't have an issue with it and see the value of rewarding the teams that "earned it" in the regular season with home games and playing lesser seeds.

Just fyi, because I really wasn't sure about MLB and their new Playoff format this year (Best of 3 Wild Card Round). They do NOT reseed.

What was the stat that got posted during that disaster of a game on Sunday - that Cousins had more QB hits this year than any other in his career (through only 15 games, mind you). Which of course includes the years in Washington where he usually took a beating. His sack rate is down from those Washington years, but he's also probably better at getting the ball out pre-sack as he's progressed in his career. This obviously won't help that.

Cousins has been hit more times than any qb in the NFL this year.

They just can't pass block. It's just year after year after year after year. It's just unreal.

Our passing is almost insane with our pass blocking. Pressure up the middle is crazy bad for this team.

Bradbury better get his damn "tight back" fixed. Come on, enough of this sissy crap.

It was fine when Schlottmann was playing just as good as you were, for a fraction of the cost, but now we actually need you.
