2022 Minnesota Bowl Projection Tracker

The talent in the East makes the Rose Bowl bid interesting. Say OSU goes undefeated and wins the B1G- obviously they’re a lock to the playoffs. Does a 1 loss Michigan or Penn State make it to the Rose Bowl over a 1 loss Gopher team? What about 2 losses?

I’d be pretty confident that a 12-1 Gopher team with a championship loss make the Rose bowl. Only possible scenario they don’t is an 11-1 Michigan with a closer loss to OSU than us and better wins than us over PSU/MSU.

If we drop 1 (or 2) conference games but still make the CCG, I think it’s more up in the AJR.

What makes you say this? Mertz has played much better than Petras. Allen and Mellusi are a great and good back. Losing Cundiff is a blow but Wisconsin's pass catchers are better than anything Iowa has.
Because a bad offense is a bad offense.
I don’t differentiate between really bad and bad.
They’re both bad

They’re both bad
x is as bad as y implies you do differentiate. You've just implied Iowa is really bad, thus if Wisconsin isn't also really bad they aren't as bad.

Sayings Wisconsin and Iowa have offenses that aren't good, isn't the same as saying Iowa and Wisconsin's offenses are equal. One I think we'd all agree with. The other ignores the putrid product Iowa is putting on the field.

Butts in seats and eyes on sets still factor in to Bowl people

I would guess Gophs need to have some big home crowds rest of the way to get picked over Michigan in a both lose only to Ohio State scenario.

X is as bad as Y implies I don’t differentiate
If I’m saying they’re are equally bad that literally the opposite of differentiating

Both offenses are equally as inept
Wisconsin scored 14 points on a wazzu team that gave up 17 to Idaho and 40+ to an Oregon team that I think is solid but not great.

Wisconsin hasn’t rushed for over 275 yards for 8 consecutive games now.

Against the gophers, both of these offenses are equally as shitty.

You're right. I meant "x is as bad as y implies you don't differentiate." Because your response was that really bad and bad are different but the same to you. It's an odd take to consider both offenses remotely as bad. Regardless, appreciate the insight into your thought process.

247 first out of the gate:

Citrus Bowl

Projected matchup: Minnesota vs. Texas A&M

Major changes in the SEC's upper-tier bowl games, Texas A&M replaces Arkansas in Orlando for this week's Citrus Bowl distinction after holding off the Razorbacks at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Jimbo Fisher has found his quarterback in LSU transfer Max Johnson and the Aggies have won consecutive games against nationally-ranked teams after their season was pushed to the brink following the upset loss to Appalachian State in Week 2.

Go Gophers!!
Unless I'm reading it wrong has Iowa playing in two bowls...

I believe the Rose can take the highest ranked B1G team not in CFP.

I’d guess Michigan or PSU with a 11-1 record will get picked over gophers unless they go undefeated and only lose to OSU in B10 championship game.
So you are saying PSU will beat the Gophs.

I would hope that if the Gophers went 12-1 with a loss in the championship game.....that they'd be selected to the Rose Bowl over a one loss OSU, Michigan, or PSU team. Considering our Rose Bowl drought.....I'd have to think the conference would push for it.

Would like to think that Gopher fans would travel to the game like the Vikings made the Super Bowl. "Could be the only time in our lives" urgency to make it in person.

But then fans from those three mega programs travel everywhere, all the time. So who knows what they would prefer.

You can eliminate the one loss PSU as they would have two losses in this scenario, Gophers and OSU!

Them beating world beaters SDSU, Nevada, and Rutgers - and looking bad in the process. Even though they got steamrolled last night, I think WI is the 2nd best team in the West.
yeah, but we've seen this story before

While I fully believe MN breaks the cursed streak this year, I still need to see it. We've been saying for 2 years Iowa can't sustatin winning with short fields/turnovers and piss poor offense, and here we are

This sounds right. Similar to Iowa's cinderella run several years ago. They only made the Rose Bowl because they were still undefeated headed to Indianpolis.

13-0: CFP
12-1 (win in Indy): CFP
12-1 (loss in Indy): Rose Bowl
11-2 (win in Indy): Most likely random NY6 with an outside shot at Rose.
11-2 (loss in Indy): Random NY6 or Citrus (this is the one where I really hope we eek out a NY6 because I think it's a likely finish)
10-3 (still get to and lose in Indy): Citrus Bowl
Worse: Tampa/Music City

PSU being 11-1, beating Mich, losing to Gophers, then beating Ohio State three weeks in a row, seems far fetched.

Michigan is going to be the one, if it happens. They stay undefeated all year until the last week, lose a close game to Ohio State. We lose to Ohio St in Indy.

That's going to be tough. Will matter how we looked in Indy and what the TV ratings of that game were compared to Mich-OSU.

Need Sparty to get up for one week against Michigan and hand them a bad loss.

I would agree with you. However, if we have two losses with one of them being in the championship game, we'd have a pretty fair shot at the Orange Bowl which would be a nice consolation.

Nopy, you're correct. Palm still has us in Nashville.

If we remain undefeated through the Penn State game, we'll be 7-0. Only then will Palm likely elevate us to the Reliaquest (formerly Outback) Bowl or, if he has a sudden burst of generosity, maybe the Citrus Bowl. Of all the major prognosticators, Palm seems the most wedded to the notion that the Gophers will never accomplish anything at the highest levels of competition so they don't deserve to be placed there.

Didn’t OSU have a pretty poor showing at the Rose Bowl last year? The Gophers going to the Rose Bowl would be a once in a generation (or 2) moment. I think all bets based on previous travel history would be off.

I think Gophers would flock to Pasedena in droves if given the chance.

Maybe it's because I grew up in the BCS era and not the days of the B10-Pac10 traditional Rose Bowl, but to me the Orange Bowl would be just as nice as the Rose Bowl.

Obviously it’s a long ways off but we really need Michigan to lose a game before they play OSU. Any chance we have of going to the elusive Rose Bowl is to not have Michigan and OSU in top 7-8 before BT title game.

Bowl projections are pretty lame. They change weekly. Most seem to think Citrus as of now, from the pinstripe a few weeks ago.

The Gophers could end up almost anywhere.
