2022 Minnesota Bowl Projection Tracker

My picks if not CFP or Rose Bowl are Tampa (Reliaquest), Orlando (Citrus), and Detroit (Quick Lane) because I live near the first 2 and always pass through Detroit for Christmas.

Yes, I realize living in Tampa Bay and spending Xmas in Detroit is a little messed up.
The Quick Lane bowl is like for 6-6 teams that barely made it and against a MAC team.

Didn't the season that Jerry retired and Claeys took over as interim, they went to that bowl as a 5-7 team? (And won it against Central Michigan)

No, thanks.

Yes, for a number of years, the Quick Lane was Big Ten vs. ACC but now the bowl is back to Big Ten vs. MAC. Reverting to the MAC matchup makes it the barest of consolations.

We played in it under both matchups: CMU in 2015 under the conditions you mentioned and against Georgia Tech in 2018.

High on Minnesota or low on the yearly default BT West picks of Iowa and Wisconsin. Regardless.....at least they seem to be paying attention. 247 and the Action Network seem to have interns putting these together.

Well, nothing is worse than USA Today's recent predictions. Theirs look like they haven't even considered this year's performances to date. They have us going back to the Guaranteed Rate Bowl and all of our Western division primary foes going to better bowls. Maybe they're just assuming that the Gophers will go to a lowly bowl unless they have a spectacular season. Come to think of it, after last year, that's not an impossible result but I hope we don't get screwed two years in a row.

Forgot the GT win was the Quick Lane. Thanks!

That was the game that won Rossi the permanent DC job, if I recall correctly

Yes, that game had multiple positive outcomes. We beat them in a blowout although they were favored and Mo capped off his great freshman year with something like 228 yards rushing and an MVP award.

Who would want to spend any time in Detroit or New York? Thanks but no thanks. Music City or anything in Florida . Absolutely the Rose or the CFP would be great.
Regarding Detroit, I do seem to recall that those who actually did go reported a very good experience. I think DarrenTheGreek loaded up the family and made the trip. Certainly helped that the Gophers easily handled GT and brought home the W.

Not advocating for a Detroit destination (ever again) but apparently it can be a good time.

I was there, great time, would go again.

Dear Action Network - I would find that highly unlikely that 2 teams scheduled to play each other next 2 years would end up in a Bowl Game matchup.

Perhaps I am wrong but that wouldn't make sense to me if I were involved closely with either program. I know Bowl Games may not feature the best players but still.

If it's not the Rose, that means I'll have to go retrieve my folding chair I set up along the parade route. Damn.

Barring that, Citrus, Tampa or Music City. Any would be cool

I want music city just for the trip. The others would be nice consolations. Obviously I’d prefer the CFP

Correct. We finished 6-7 with a bowl win.

It was a better bowl for a few years with the ACC tie in.

The big ten should tell that bowl to increase the payout to get a p5 in there or kick rocks

Generally agree, but I think we played Syracuse in the regular season in 2009 and 2012, then got Syracuse as our bowl opponent in 2013. Granted maybe that’s because it was the last bowl game to pick and had no choice, sort of like the Gophers going to the Quick Lane Bowl twice in 4 years.

Actually when Nebraska was new to the Big Ten, I think they played Georgia in back to back bowl games.

Yeah, took wife and two of the kids. It's a pretty cheap flight and we had a good time. Only downside for the trip was my wife left her purse in the hotel while we went to the game and the hotel maid stole a check from the checkbook, cashed it for $1k and wrote all the credit card numbers down. We eventually got all the money back but it took us a LONG time to get new accounts setup with the bank. Hotel did nothing. Very annoying.

I'm hoping our days of bowling in Detroit are done but I'd go back if the opportunity presented itself.

wow that's a shitty story. i can't believe the hotel didn't do anything.

It's a fun city to visit but Nashville can be fairly cold in late December. About twenty years ago, I remember looking for my car for about 45 minutes at night in an open Nashville airport parking lot during late December. It was not comfortable weather - I'm guessing high teens.

Then let’s go to Florida. Or AZ. Or wherever the CFP sends us

Karma's a B. Hope she gets a face full. Sorry to hear it

Really it could be a good time? No one will travel Detroit.

All right everyone, get ready to book your bowl trip because here is what the prognosticators have told locked in on.....

We are going to be playing in the Pinstripe bowl against Syracuse or Wake Forest or North Carolina or Louisville or Pittsburgh

But we might also be playing in the Music City Bowl against South Carolina or Florida or Ole Miss

Then again it could be the Citrus Bowl against Arkansas or Tennessee

But maybe it will be the ReliaQuest Bowl against Ole Miss or Mississippi State

Or possibly the Duke's Mayo bowl against Pittsburgh or Florida.

Don't get me wrong...I love this thread and the early season bowl projections crack me up....but they are so worthless in terms of accuracy. Can see why the sponsors love it though as they get months of free advertising to go along with all these projections.

Can't wait to see how many other locations and teams get added to this list. Not a ton more locations but there are a few, list of potential opponents is likely to grow a lot though.

CFN chimes in post Week 3:

Vrbo Citrus Bowl

Camping World Stadium, Orlando, FL
Last Year: Kentucky 20, Iowa 17
Bowl Ties: Big Ten vs SEC

Go Gophers!!

God, I would love to play — and beat — yet another SEC team in yet another bowl game.

The 2019 win against Auburn was absolutely delicious. They never knew what hit 'em.
